What I love the most about the proposal is that it is so imperfect, and even though it's beautiful, it shows that they didn't get engaged for the right reasons. It was rushed. It was with Tony's family ring, not an engagement ring. Tony adorably fumbles the start of it, and Ziva is caught off guard but still drawn in by him and the gesture, and thinks she wants what he is offering because it seems like the only path forward for both of them. It's what they both think is the right thing to do.

He doesn't declare his love. He doesn't shed a tear. He's nervous and he's just trying to get her to stay, and she's looking for any reason to hold onto something permanent for Tali's sake.

The masterminds who came up with this are my heroes, how do you find a way to include not one, but probably two proposals in your show and make both of them beautiful and interesting in their own way? How do you make it beautiful even when the viewers know they ultimately don't go through with it? How do you show that the engagement was for the wrong reasons while still keeping it in character?

This is how. Yes. YES.

The writing for this show is so much better than I even hoped for.

I’m Not Leaving.

After he had rescued her from Somalia, there was a stretch of time that they couldn’t seem to get back to where they’d been before she left. Tony had a vague memory of things he might have said while under the influence of the truth serum, but it was hard to distinguish what was real and what was a dream. Had he actually told her how he felt? Had she understood that what he said was the truth? What he did remember was how his heart leapt from his chest when the hood was removed from her head. Ziva.

He believed her to be dead. He was there for revenge, to kill Saleem. He never expected to be faced with the one person he couldn’t live without. The moment he saw she was alive, Tony knew his mission had gone from revenge to rescue.

His weight pressing above her, unlike others before him, only makes her feel safe. Pliable. Completely in his focus.

Even as relaxed and wet as she is, he's still a snug fit and her breath stutters a bit as he nibbles at her lip.

"Breathe with me, Scully," he husks against her mouth, and the tense, pleasure-laced tautness of his voice gives her a thrill as she senses the fullness, that delicious stretch when he pushes in another inch.

"Oh," she breathes, her eyelids fluttering briefly as she feels an unexpected clench. He's hardly moved; she feels like a single brush against her clit could send her spiraling. He's always been adept at making her want to believe in the impossible.

"I got you," his mouth covers hers as he slides in deeper and carries her home.
