I honestly really just love reading, and it’s really fun to pic random fics and pretend it’s a book I pulled off the shelf! Short, long, shippy, angsty- anything. I will truly read anything- except the real spicy stuff. Sorry lads, I’m aro/ace, it’s just not fun for me!

What will I be doing with this blog?

Mostly, I’ll be doing reviews of random fics I find, my impression of fandoms via their fics, or recommendations!

This blog is just that- a blog! Expect rambly posts reviewing things I find on ao3, chatting about my thoughts on fanfiction trends, and random recommendations if I find an especially good story. Don’t expect me to be correct about what’s really going on with a show, movie, book, or whatever. I get a lot of enjoyment outta reading fic for things I know nothing about! So if I make a blatant error, it’s probably because some author wrote their headcannon so well I didn’t even know it wasn’t canon!

Oops they’ve revealed how long I’ve just quietly been reading fics on my own!! Waugh!!

So. Dream SMP. Sbi. I’ve done this tango before, read many many fics with them when that was all the rage. However ☝️ I never really got into criminal / crime aus. But I did really enjoy Meet the Millers when I watched that however many years ago, so I’m going into this optimistically. Important note, I’m very aware of the stuff going on with WS and I don’t support that piece of shit at all. Onto the review!

Overall Thoughts:

While presented as an SBI fic, most stories in this are definitely Tommy centric. It’s very much a fic characteristic of the culture of 2022 mcyt fics, so it was a fun nostalgia blast and a charming read. Of course, as with many crack fics published after the infamous TommyInnit’s unbeatable method of avoiding sudden death by eneliii, the ending has a sudden heartbreaking turn and a whole dramatic conclusion, but unlike TUMOASD, it comes back to being fluffy and shit! Big win!. 4 stars!!

First Impressions:

Always love to see a fic that actually includes Kristin! This one heavily implies it’s a crack fic with no plot, but I’ve seen things tagged as such accidentally stumble into having plot, so I suppose we’ll see. I’m curious if it’ll be Tommy POV or hopping between POVs- based on my experience, a lot of these SBI fics written in this time period tend to be Exclusively Tommy centric or it sporadically bounces between perspectives. Excited to read!

After Reading:

You ever read a fic and become Incredibly Aware of the year it was written? This one had very very 2022 fic energy in it. Lots of Pogchamps and Poggers and within seconds of the fic starting, Tommy gets two cops killed as a 9 year old and just moves on with his day. 10/10. Throwing every single trope at the wall in the first chapter- Tommy’s super long middle name, the Theseus title, strangers being incredibly evil for no good reason, etc. it’s great. Huge huge nostalgia blast.

Things just kinda Happen and people randomly appear, and while it’s not the most eloquent fic I have ever read, it’s cute and fun and that’s all that really matters, eh? You can definitely tell the person who wrote this isn’t an adult but that’s part of what makes it so charming. A relic of its time, I had fun! My favorite part was when Kristin decided to bring weed brownies to a parent teacher meeting. Why? I have no idea. Cannot even begin to comprehend the thought process behind 90% of the crimes done in this fic. It’s great.

My only criticism is really just. Every single non named character is bafflingly evil. Random man on the street? Evil. Random parent at a school event? Evil. Every single stranger is just the most cruel and mean person you can imagine to the main characters and it gets really funny the longer it goes on. But it also does get a tad repetitive. Otherwise huge fan of this silly crack fic.

Star Wars is a media that I’m only familiar with via proxy of knowing people who are Very into star wars. The last time I watched the movies on purpose was on my last day of middle school where my teacher decided our class should marathon all three prequel movies. With that knowledge going in, I decided to give Everyone Needs Luck, But Not Us by krayters a shot.

Overall Thoughts:

Wow wow wow!!! I am incredibly impressed by the characterization and solid emotion this author has given every characters, making a rich, beautiful world for us as the reader to explore. Even not having a lot of familiarity with the characters and spin offs that krayters is pulling from, this was a well rounded world with an incredibly interesting premise. 4 stars!!

First impressions:

Initially, I only clicked on this fic because I love love love unconventional Time travel fix-it fics. With nearly 140k words and 32 chapters, I expected this to be a fic that I could read on and off during my currently hectic life.

After Reading:

I was wrong. I was so wrong. From the second chapter onwards I was absolutely hooked and more than happy to binge this fic for that sweet taste of angst and crack the tags promised. And they sure delivered!!!

I love how silly they’re willing to be while also being more than willing to jump into serious moments with the appropriate amount of gravity they deserve. It really hooked me as I followed along with the plot- I couldn’t really remember the plot of the trilogy other than middle school me thinking every main character was hot af- so the chancellor being revealed as the Sith Lord blew my fucking mind. That and the whole order 66 thing, I was sweating with how scared I was for the characters despite knowing this was intending as a crack treated seriously fic and Surely they wouldn’t kill the main character- right?

The ending made me cry. Hardcore. I’m a huge baby when it comes to happy endings and it’s rare to find a story that ends so perfectly and sweetly. I’m definitely going to check out more Obi-Wan fics after this, and read more from this author. Beautiful story.

My fic's called Fullmetal Alchemist: Reconnection, as you would assume, it's for the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom. Not by any means finished, only the first few chapters are posted. It's gonna be a longfic :)

So! Fullmetal Alchemist, a show I really only know through fanfics. I’ve seen the first few episodes of each version, but I’m absolute pants about finishing shows, so I’ve never seen the full thing.

Overall thoughts:

I’ll give this fic 4 stars! The writing was solid, I’m really hooked on the story, and I’m looking forward to see how the mystery unravels! For someone who hasn’t seen (the majority of) Fullmetal Alchemist, I understood most of what was going on besides for some minor details. I’d love to do a follow up review once the fic is finished, so keep an eye out for that. I say, check it out!

First impressions:

The summary definitely caught my attention! I don’t get to read em too often, but time skip plot lines are always pretty interesting. Especially one as long as this! 12 years is a big jump, and I’m interested in seeing how the characters react to that. Also, Mustang got murdered? What the heck happened there?? I’m definitely curious heading into this!

After reading:

Gonna try not to spoil anything (spoilers beneath the cut for specific thoughts!) but the fun thing about fics like this (tagged original characters, show I’m not super familiar with) is that I haven’t a single clue who is and who isn’t an original character. A pretty prominent example is the main group the fic starts focused on! I know Alphonse, Edward, and Winry, but May? Not a freakin clue. Overall though, none of the OCs stuck out to me like they didn’t belong in the universe, and it was all written pretty well!

As of reading this, it currently has 4 chapters and 16,603 words, and took me about half an hbomberguy video to finish. Besides for some minor things (whatever the heck Alkahestry is, some mentioned past events), I was able to pretty easily understand what was going on. It definitely helps that, since the pov characters so far have been pretty removed from where we are now, most things are explained to them. I’m pretty invested in the story so far, and I’ve subscribed so I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out :)

It’s also made me wanna check out more FMA fanfiction in general! Thank you for the submission :D

Generally speaking, I’ll try just about anything. From your fluffy little one shots to your 100k+ multi chapter angst no comfort beasts of a fic, I’m willing to take it on!

But I do have some boundaries regarding this, ones that I don’t think will really pop up but better to say and not risk it!

1. No porn no plot type deals

- This is entirely because I just. Don’t care for that! I’m aroace, I don’t find that stuff fun or exciting to read. It’s mostly just awkward. This extends to cover things like kink fics, lemon, smutty stuff, whatever- if the main point of the fic is sexy times, I’m just not gonna read it!

2. No one shot collections

- Kinda. I’m not super interested in reading a fic that’s just 30 or so unrelated one shots. If the prompts are all incorporated into one story- great! I’d love to check it out! But otherwise, that’s 30 mini fics all glued together into one heap. I’ll pass.

3. Nothing crazy long

- Now, it’s often a point of contention between me and my free time, but I love longfics. I adore getting drawn into a story and resurface 200k words and a week later a changed man! But uh. A million words is a bit much! So just be conscious of how long your fics are if you want them read in a timely manner. I think the longest I’ve read in a “reasonable” time was around 700k words? But even then, that’s a bit much!

4. No xreader stuff

- I’m fine with self inserts, OCs, whatever! I just don’t care for reader fics, it’s not my jam and I just can’t get into em. Second person fics don’t apply btw I mean expediently with the reader character as the focus. On the other hand, I adore self inserts! Isekais! OCs! I think they are absolutely fascinating, so please do send those my way :D
