"Hey, Boo, I've been wondering..how come you never talk to our friends about little you?" Boober immediately paused, in the middle of scrubbing his scarf clean, at Sidebottom's question. Sidebottom had been bombarding him with countless random questions since he started working on the laundry, but this was the first one to get an actual response out of him; while he had just ignored the others, hoping that his "fun" side would eventually get bored and finally leave him to work in peace "..L-Little me?" He asked, tilting his head in confusion as he turned to look at Sidebottom over his shoulder, an uncomfortable feeling curling around his heart..it made his chest feel tight "Yeah! Y'know, the you you had before me? The you from back when you were a really little fraggle and before you even knew Mokey and the others, and you were alone a lot and..and even more scared than you usually are now! Which I didn't think was possible! Ha!" Sidebottom explained, his voice starting out cheerful but then trailing off briefly into something that sounded a bit more serious, he almost looked troubled as he spoke, until he added that last part, his goofy grin returning, seemingly trying to add some levity. He couldn't even find it in himself to be annoyed at Sidebottom for poking fun at him right now, feeling too overwhelmed by Sidebottom's explanation to say anything..He gripped at the brim of his washbasin, his legs felt unsteady all of a sudden and it felt a little hard to breathe "Y-You..You mean there's..another me in my head..l-like you?" He finally managed to ask, his voice quavering "Yeah! Didn't you know that?" Sidebottom responded, much too casually for Boober's liking. He stared down at the soapy water, trying to stop himself from hyperventilating. At his lack of a response Sidebottom decided to continue speaking "Y'know, I barely ever see him! You always leave him wayyy far off in the back of our mind! It's like..he's kinda hard for me to get to..And he almost never comes out into the land behind the eyes to visit me!" Sidebottom rambled on, while he began to spiral; he was barely processing what Sidebottom was saying as he brought his hands to his head, though they were still wet and sudsy, but he didn't care, he felt like there was a piercing pain inside his brain "Except he does take over sometimes when you're dreaming with me, but-" "H-He what!?" He interrupted, looking to Sidebottom again in a panic "Yeah, I think he shows up when you have nightmares about.." Sidebottom hesitated briefly, which made him even more anxious "Well, I mean, your nightmares about being alone back then are actually..his, I guess. So when they start to upset you you come and see me in our mind, but he wakes up." He stared at Sidebottom as he solemnly finished informing him about this "That's..why I brought up telling our friends about him. Because, y'know, I thought it might help him if he knew he wasn't alone when he woke up, that he could go see the others and they'd help him.."
SAMPLE OF MY FIRST ONESHOT I WILL HAVE BOTH HERE AND AO3
Sanji x reader - barely any plot, just a lot of words, eventual smut, unfinished, I’ll add more tags later
Early morning sun spills in from the small window of Sanji’s cabin, a dim light resting on his bare chest as you peak past his door knocked ajar by the storm last night. He works so hard and evidently was too exhausted to be woken up by the waves thrashing at the Thousand Sunny. The floorboards creak slightly under your toes as you shuffle away and hope to not be noticed leering at his sleeping form. You set foot on deck and morning moves on as usual for when you can’t sleep any longer. Zoro sound asleep on the deck after a night of watching over the ship, Nami waving sleepily as she checks our course, Robin already fully awake and reading a book, and the rest of the crew nowhere to be seen.
Not long after you find a place near the galley to rest, he comes out. Sanji, so pretty and diligent even when he’s so sleepy, immediately heads to his kitchen to make breakfast. He always makes sure to cook a hearty meal before our captain wakes up— simply so none of us have to hear the complaining about being hungry as soon as he opens his door. You follow him into the kitchen quietly, knocking on the counter.
“Ah,” he looks up from mixing a large bowl of eggs. “Good morning, Y/N dear.” As usual, his inflection is enthusiastic, though his voice makes it clear that’s the first thing he’s said since last night.
The extra gravelly sound mixed with your name and the image of him when you peered into his room is enough to heat up your cheeks a little.
Warning: This fic is incomplete!!! I don’t plan on finishing it, I’ve lost interest in these characters and this ship but I already wrote 3/6 chapters of this fic and at least one person told me to post them anyways, so here you go.
Summary: “Do you need a ride?” - - Kyle spots Max standing alone outside of Hatchetfield High without a ride home and decides to offer to drive him home.
Aka - 5 times Kyle helped Max out, and one time Max returned the favor
Kyle steps out of Hatchetfield High, ready to go home, have dinner with his grandma, play a board game — it’s family game night, he always looks forward to spending more time with his grandma, especially with his busy schedule — and go to bed. It’s dark already, practice went on a bit longer today.
As he’s walking to his car he spots Max alone, pacing back-and-forth and overall looking very un-Max-like.
Kyle stops walking, considering if he should go up to Max. They are friends… to an extent. But Kyle doesn’t want Max to get the wrong idea and beat his ass.
Fuck it, he thinks, and walks towards Max who immediately whips his head around when he hears the heavy footsteps coming towards him.
“Uh, Max! You alright?”
Kyle immediately regrets the words as they come out of his mouth. Max will definitely kick his ass for asking that, he doesn’t do feelings and shit.
But to his surprise, Max just responds with a gruff, “I’m fine”
The energy immediately goes awkward as neither boy speaks. Kyle averts his eyes and looks off to the parking lot. He notices that Max’s white pickup truck isn't anywhere to be seen.
“Do you need a ride?” He asks, looking back towards Max.
After a few seconds, Max nods and Kyle walks off to his – well technically his grandma’s – car. Max follows behind, weirdly subdued. It’s odd seeing the school’s ‘Monster’ acting like this but Kyle doesn't dare bring it up.
*beep beep*
Kyle unlocks the car as they step closer. He walks over to the driver’s side door as Max opens the passenger’s side door and gets in, buckling up his seatbelt. Kyle gets into his seat a second later and after buckling himself in, he sets off. He knows the way to Max’s house despite only having gone there once, he can be very observant sometimes, so he doesn’t have to ask Max for the address.
The drive is quiet but surprisingly comfortable as Kyle hums along to the song which is softly playing on the radio and Max stares out the window.
After a short drive – Hatchetfield is a very small town so it doesn't take long to get anywhere – they pull up to Max’s house. It’s not what one would expect, a fairly quaint, quiet looking house, on the outskirts of Hatchetfield. But anyone who heard the rumours about Max’s dad would know that it isn't as nice as it might seem. Just seeing the house gives Kyle a weird feeling of dread.
Max steps out of Kyle’s car without a word and walks off towards his house. Kyle doesn’t leave yet, he learned from his grandma to not drive off until the person is safely inside their house. At 18, the rule is probably not necessary anymore but he can’t help but continue the habit.
And he’s glad he did when Max walks up to the door and turns the knob to no avail. He tries a bit harder, roughly shoving the door, but it doesn’t open.
Kyle rolls the passenger side door’s window down and can hear Max cussing under his breath. The boy sucks in a breath, mentally preparing himself, before pressing the doorbell. He waits a few seconds but no noise comes from inside the house. Max tries again but still nothing happens.
Kyle decides it’s time to speak up. “You can stay over at my house if you want.”
Max turns around sharply. “What?” He asks, but it doesn’t sound as mad as Kyle had expected, instead he just sounds confused.
“Uh, I asked if you wanted to stay over at mine for the night? I’m sure my grandma would be fine with it.” Kyle gets more nervous as he repeats himself.
“I heard you the first time dumbass, it’s just… why the fuck would you ask?”
Kyle immediately starts sweating bullets. He didn’t know how what he said was wrong but around Max he can never be too careful, the wrong thing at the wrong time can set him off, and no one wants that.
But before Kyle can say anything Max continues, “I’ve been a total asshole to you, why the hell would you want me to stay at your house?”
Kyle blinks. That’s not what he expected.
“Well… fuck, I don’t know.”
“… you don’t know.”
Kyle laughs nervously. “I mean, I don’t want you to sleep outside or something. It would be shitty of me to just leave you.”
“I’d do it”
Kyle doesn’t know how to respond to that, but luckily he doesn’t have to as Max starts walking back towards his car.
He stops infront of the door. “You really want me to stay over?”
“Yeah”
Max nods and opens the door, sitting back down on the seat.
Kyle starts the engine up again and begins the drive to his house. It’s awkward for the first few minutes before Kyle decides to break the silence.
“Uh, me and my grandma are gonna have a family game night tonight, it’s kinda a tradition for us each Friday. I’m sure she’d love for you to join in.”
Max looks over at Kyle, and he continues.
“Do you do that? Uh, game night.” He mentally facepalms, of course Max doesn’t.
“No.”
Kyle nods awkwardly, eyes on the road.
“I used to, when my mom was around…”
That causes Kyle to look over at Max before quickly looking back at the road. Even from the split-second of him looking over, Kyle can tell Max regrets saying that with how he grips his knees and stares down at the dashboard.
“Well, uh.. you could always start doing it with us. If you want, obviously. Ya know, the more the merrier and all that stuff and it’s hard playing some games with just 2 people.”
Max nods just as they pass by the High school.
“Wait, why’re we going by the high school?”
“Oh, my grandma’s house is close to the school.”
“Then why’d you offer to take me home if it’s out of the way?”
“I… fuck man I already told you, I don’t know. I guess you just looked kinda sad? Well, I don’t mean that but like you looked just not yourself. And I noticed your car wasn’t there-“ Kyle rambles on, his words getting faster, before Max cuts him off.
“Alright man I get it, you don’t need to keep going, you’re just making yourself sound stupider.”
Kyle bits his lip and nods.
After a minute more he pulls up to the house, a fairly small one in the center of Hatchetfield. Just big enough for Kyle and his grandma to live comfortably, and he wouldn’t have it any other way. He loves this house, he has had so many good memories here, and he’d like to eventually inherit the house and continue living here in the future.
But now’s not the time to think about that, now he’s bringing Max to his house for the first time and he’s extremely nervous. He doesn’t know why, it’s not like he’s bringing a date home — as much as he might secretly wish that — Max is his friend, but also it’s Max. It would be different if he were bringing, say, Jason back. Or even Stacy.
Kyle turns the car off and steps out, walking over to the curb where Max is already stood outside, looking over at the house. Max looks almost nervous, which is not something Kyle would ever think he’d say but Max has been acting weird the whole evening.
Kyle walks over to the door and takes a breath before unlocking it and pushing it open.
Earth is the element of patience and Toph is the best of the best, so she's good at waiting. Luckily, now she knows she won't have to wait forever.
AKA Toph makes a marriage pact with Zuko and feels proud of her negotiating skills. Zuko is still processing the whole "she likes him" thing. It's gonna take him a while.
✧༺━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━༻∞
A short but cute interaction between Zuko and Toph post-canon. Pre-relationship inside!
Unfortunately, there is only one chapter, and the author has opted not write more, but it can definitely be read as a one shot! And it made me smile!
Your blog seems really cool! IDK if you've gotten any requests yet. If not, I'd be honored to kick off the chain. My fic's called Fullmetal Alchemist: Reconnection, as you would assume, it's for the Fullmetal Alchemist fandom. Not by any means finished, only the first few chapters are posted. It's gonna be a longfic :)
Thank you so much for the request!! You’re my first official request, so I’m very excited for this :D
So! Fullmetal Alchemist, a show I really only know through fanfics. I’ve seen the first few episodes of each version, but I’m absolute pants about finishing shows, so I’ve never seen the full thing.
Overall thoughts:
I’ll give this fic 4 stars! The writing was solid, I’m really hooked on the story, and I’m looking forward to see how the mystery unravels! For someone who hasn’t seen (the majority of) Fullmetal Alchemist, I understood most of what was going on besides for some minor details. I’d love to do a follow up review once the fic is finished, so keep an eye out for that. I say, check it out!
More in depth thoughts down here vvv! Wanna submit a fic? Check my pinned post!
First impressions:
The summary definitely caught my attention! I don’t get to read em too often, but time skip plot lines are always pretty interesting. Especially one as long as this! 12 years is a big jump, and I’m interested in seeing how the characters react to that. Also, Mustang got murdered? What the heck happened there?? I’m definitely curious heading into this!
After reading:
Gonna try not to spoil anything (spoilers beneath the cut for specific thoughts!) but the fun thing about fics like this (tagged original characters, show I’m not super familiar with) is that I haven’t a single clue who is and who isn’t an original character. A pretty prominent example is the main group the fic starts focused on! I know Alphonse, Edward, and Winry, but May? Not a freakin clue. Overall though, none of the OCs stuck out to me like they didn’t belong in the universe, and it was all written pretty well!
As of reading this, it currently has 4 chapters and 16,603 words, and took me about half an hbomberguy video to finish. Besides for some minor things (whatever the heck Alkahestry is, some mentioned past events), I was able to pretty easily understand what was going on. It definitely helps that, since the pov characters so far have been pretty removed from where we are now, most things are explained to them. I’m pretty invested in the story so far, and I’ve subscribed so I’m looking forward to seeing how it all plays out :)
It’s also made me wanna check out more FMA fanfiction in general! Thank you for the submission :D
When I started reading Everlark Fanfic I was only really interested in one particular niche: Cannon complaint, post-Mockingjay pre-epilogue. After reading probably the 74th version of the memory book I started branching out… not far, mostly to other cannon compliant Everlark fics… then to canon divergent… and so it began
Somewhere along the way I accidentally read an incomplete fic- Image my horror after staying up WAY too late to realize there was no ‘Next Chapter ->’ and there hadn’t been one in 9 years.
This was simultaneously devastating and exhilarating, because while I wish I knew whether authors intended ending, this story was a fucking delight.
Anyways…
Since then incomplete fics are some of my favorites. I have a list and I’m going to share it, starting with:
Lovefool by hotpielookedlikehotpie - this was said fic and the first Everlark AU I read.
It’s a romcom set in high school featuring your favorite Hunger Games characters acting pretty in-character
Bonus - there are outtakes! One of which: a prequel in Johanna’s perspective
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
What are your thoughts? Favorite currently incomplete stories?
