it's 2022. donald trump has died in disgrace days after being impeached and jailed. my chemical romance's new album is coming out the same day as the new spiderverse movie. the lizzo and janelle monaé collab song is blowing up the radio. lil nas x has a verse in it. you and your partner have time and energy for dates after work after jeff bezos' assets have been seized and distributed to the public in the wake of his arrest for keeping employees in unsafe working conditions.
oh what a life
Is it just me or do all Marvel trailers now start with with the same tune?
no but the same way that phones and laptops are guilty of scheduled obsolescence, entertainment conglomerates, and to some extent even regular writers just trying to ‘make it big’, are treating stories as though they’re meant to have a built-in expiration date. it’s the obsession with plot twists that ultimately mean nothing, it’s shock for shock’s sake, it’s the way spoilers are treated as inherently experience-ruining. stories are written for the first viewing and the first viewing only, because after you’ve seen something once, why would you want to see it again? so it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t hold up on a second viewing or if the entire plot is ruined if you go into it knowing a single detail. you’re only going to care once, aren’t you?
but like. is that really true? is it really true that an experience with a piece of art is only worth having once? is it really not worth it to create something that will be loved enough that its lovers come back to it? that’s so much
“The closer rebel characters come to a definable ideology, the more likely they are to be written as villains. At the same time, the emotive aspects of rebellion - the heroism of the underdog, the thrill of fighting the power - are rendered safe for public consumption by taking out any explicit political ideology. … The effect of all this is to suggest that violence is somehow more sympathetic the less its perpetrators believe - that heroism decreases the more detailed your policy proposals get. If Luke Skywalker was fighting for galactic communism, or Daenerys intended to create a series of peasants’ councils to govern Westeros, or Harry Potter wanted to smash the Ministry of Magic and overturn wizard supremacy, we would have to confront serious and difficult questions about when political violence is appropriate, for whose benefit, and for what purposes. I don’t believe those are questions pop culture is incapable of asking. They are questions we do not want to ask.”
— Alister MacQuarrie, Outlaw Kings and Rebellion Chic (via secularbakedgoods)
Related: in almost all these stories, the hero seeks to restore something or stop a villain from creating a big unwanted change. All was well until the villain decided something needed to change. The status quo is okay, change is bad. If the story starts at a bad moment, there was a good status quo before it that needs to be restored. These are counter-revolutionary narratives.
Very rarely do we see fiction where the hero decides to make the world better not by restoring something but by creating something new and the villains are those who resist the change. They couldn’t tell stories like that because that would require for the hero to have an idea of what a better world would look like.
Imagine if the series had ended right after this moment.
This would be great for a children’s hospital

Microstory
“These copper ingots,” the devil said, “are of sub-par quality.” “You accepted them as payment,” the merchant said, “the deal is done.” “Very well. I will uphold my end of the bargain,” the devil said. “Your name will live forever.” “That is all I ask,” said Ea-nasir.
Tumblr’s sincere commitment to never let Ea-nasir die is genuinely amazing
Thinking about that day another park ranger and I discovered that
1. we both used the same shampoo and
2. Suave Essentials Tropical Coconut drives honeybees absolutely bugfuck wild
3. He's allergic to bees
It’s likely the scent! Banana scent (Isoamyl acetate) is the same scent as the aggression pheromone bees put out when they’re angry. Never eat bananas near bees! Always check your lotion, sunscreen, etc bottles for banana scent or isoamyl acetate before going near bees
So you're telling me that when bees get mad they start violently smelling like bananas?
Can confirm! In (hopefully) very rare cases, a large hive full of pissed off bees smells a lot like bananas! Usually there’s not nearly enough of them for humans to be able to smell it, though.
@cyber-flow thank you for the funniest tags I've seen all day.
[ID: a digital drawing of a bee with boxing gloves, fighting a sad and confused (and bruised) looking banana. The banana asks "why?" /end ID].
[ID: a screenshot of two tags, reading: you could say - you could say that they go bananas. /end ID].
spa 2021 is gonna be one of those races that in 20 years, people are gonna talk about how it was one of the shortest races in history and i’ll be sitting there like i sat and watched that shit for four bloody hours
