Max became interested in #johnnycakes after visiting the #cornucopia corn festival at #sleepyhollow this past weekend. According to the demonstrator, the New England style johnnycakes consisted of "Indian meal," water, molasses and salt. I asked some questions about the so called "Indian meal," and if I understood correctly, it may have been corn meal more closely resembling masa (corn soaked in wood ash and water), rather than plain corn meal. I will try both ways, but the kids are in love with the masa version (certainly would have had more nutrition)! If anyone has any more information on New England colonial period johnnycakes, please reach out and tell me more!

#Bourbon steaks are a great, easy way to booze up your meal. Just season steaks to your taste, rub with brown sugar, such them all in a bag, and throw in a shot of bourbon. Marinate at least three hours, and grill to desired doneness. I used @buffalotrace bourbon for this one, and it always impresses. @buffalotracedistillery

Max wanted to know how to make #coconutmilk . So, I chopped the thing open (not as easy as it sounds) and had at it, just like grandma did in #thailand . I might add that, with all these cooking tools at my disposal, the best thing to remove coconut from the shell is still a bottle cap.
