I’m about to ramble and talk shit for the next 10 minutes, so hear me out.

People are literally losing their shit because Andrew is only doing 2 JM songs, and nothing from SoCo, or any of his other discographies for that matter, on the ZOB tour, and I just want to pitch in my 50 cents about the subject (also because if I post this elsewhere I’m going to get torn to shit by rabid fans and I am too zen today to put up with that):

I feel like people don’t understand that there’s a difference between SoCo, JM, and AMTIW. Not only in genre, but they’re 3 completely separate discographies. 3 different eras. 3 completely different bands, if you will. Some of these people are so freaking hell bent on wanting to hear all the old discographies and fail to remember that this is the Zombies in America tour, for ANDREW MCMAHON IN THE WILDERNESS’ latest album, Zombies on Broadway. This is not a Something Corporate/Jack’s Mannequin revival tour. The purpose of this tour is for Andrew to promote his NEW music. If Andrew was still making music with Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate, that would be a completely different story, but he’s not, and it’s frustrating to see people get bent out of shape because they’re still mentally stuck in 2008.

Please don’t get me wrong, I fucking love Jack’s Mannequin. Hell, my favorite song by Andrew will always be The Resolution, and it would be amazing to hear that song live in April, considering this will be my first time ever seeing him live in the almost 10 years I’ve been following him and listening to his music. I get it. But I also get that this is a new band with new music, and that Jack’s Mannequin is over. It’s done. He’s moved on, and some of these fans need to move on, too. Maybe I feel different about it, because a lot of Andrew’s JM songs got me through some tough shit, as I’m sure they did for him as well, considering he did this while he had fucking cancer. But I think going to an AMTIW concert and hearing an abundance of JM songs almost all the time at every live show AMTIW does would make me feel like I’m still living in the days of my chronic depression and I’m sure Andrew feels the same way about this project and his cancer (which Andrew has talked about this in interviews, and why he doesn’t do certain songs anymore because they don’t currently pertain to his life at the current moment and it’s difficult to wrap his head around and really get into it). (Plus, everyone’s asking “Where’s Konstantine?” It’s a fucking 10 minute song. Why not save that so you can hear him play his new stuff instead?) This is his rebirth. It’s a musical rebirth for all of us fans.

Some people are really reluctant to change and it’s a little bit disheartening. Andrew made this new album and ventured on this tour for us to enjoy his new projects, and not complain about there not being “enough Something Corporate songs” or “enough Jack’s Mannequin songs”. This is Andrew Mcmahon in the Wilderness. Not Jack’s Mannequin. Not Something Corporate.

Andrew is still the same guy we all know and love, regardless of what project he’s on. Jack’s Mannequin and Something Corporate are still alive, by us still listening to it, and even by supporting Andrew. Hell, the guy is literally playing Dark Blue and Swim on this tour (which I’m sure Swim is one he’s probably tired of playing at this point), but it’s a fan favorite. It’s a small integral piece. But he can’t give you all the finger and you take the whole hand. Pretty sure if he wanted to keep playing those songs, he would’ve never ended those projects. 15 years is a long time of playing the same tune over and over again, with no new content. Let’s move along, and welcome the Zombies in America tour with open arms and give Zombies on Broadway the entrance and acceptance it deserves. /endrant
