I finally did it, I bought a lovely notebook to record my tarot interpretations and readings in, and it’s big enough to accommodate spells as well so it’ll probably be an all-purpose magical diary. It was only £4.50 in Paperchase!
I was in a bookshop waiting to meet friends, looking through tarot books and writing up the card names in my notebook in preparation, when the man sitting next to me started up a conversation. He’d done tarot for over 25 years and had over 50 decks, and he had a lot of interesting things to say about it.
He took note of my systematic intellectual approach to the tarot, and asked if I was an air sign - I had to disappoint him by being a Taurus, and just about managed not to gleefully identify myself as a proud Ravenclaw.
He gave me two interesting pieces of advice, which I intend to follow:
Meditate on the cards to come up with personal identifications. Pick a specific card and really focus on it, try to think about what it means, and go for a walk to think about the card’s meaning.
Think bout people in my life who I can identify with a given card: partly for understanding the card, and partly to aid memory. He suggested that he himself might make a Hierophant to remember.
It was nice to meet a fellow tarot reader, and get some reassurance that my absolute certainty that tarot cards cannot predict the future with accuracy does not mean I shouldn’t read them.
I need more witches to follow!
I recently made a blog for my witchy stuff (this one!!), but my dash is super dead. So, if you all wouldn’t mind, if you post:
Traditional Witchcraft
Occult Literature
Herbal Lore
Divination
The Good Folk
Or anything like the above!
Please like or reblog this, and I’ll check out your blog!
Quick storm magic
Fellow UK witches who’ve been hit by the storms right now, here are a few quick things you can do to take advantage:
Charge ingredients Place things outside or near windows to absorb the power of the storm, ideally things which you will use in storm related magic or which have some relevance. I used a seashell and a shard of broken glass, and put them on the outside windowsill.
Cast protection spells This isn’t likely to be a bad one but if thunder and lightning make you uneasy, you might sleep better with some protection spells. I’ve put some enchanted volcanic rock on the inside windowsills to keep the storm’s energy away from my room.
Collect storm water Put a jar or bowl outside somewhere it can collect rainwater without being knocked over, and save for use later.
Mediate Storms sound awesome, I spent a while just listening to it and watching the hall light up every minute or so. This can be an opportunity to dedicate yourself completely to awe at the majesty of nature, or a chance to explore your fiercer emotions.
Make resolutions Listen to the sound of the storm, look at its power, and focus on your intent for the next few days. Whose ass are you going to kick? What dry old systems are you going to shake up? Now is the time to declare it, knowing what real power sounds like.
protip: use poems as spells, you can write the poem down on a piece of paper/in a notebook and prying relatives will be none the wiser, just tell them you like poetry
may I please have a tarot reading about my unrequited (maybe??) love? I'm torn between telling her and dealing with the consequences - good or bad - and trying to move one
I’ve used the pathway spread here and it seems to be saying you ought to tell her. The issue is Happiness: you’ve got to give real weight to your own happiness, which you can only really do if you say how you feel. This person could potentially make you very happy, and even if you have to take a risk in order to get that, then it’s worth it. And this isn’t any shallow or temporary happiness but something real and honest and meaningful.
The action to take comes up as Responsibility, which couldn’t be clearer: take responsibility for how you feel, and own up to it. Maybe it’ll go badly, but at least you will have been honest and you can be proud of your conduct. It’s braver to take the risk, and it’s also entirely worth it. If there are any negative consequences other than possibly being rejected, maybe take steps to prevent them? E.g. decide beforehand whether you’re okay with being friends if it’s a no, if you want to ask her not to tell anyone you brought the issue up, if she says yes then maybe have an appropriate ‘first date’ plan ready and waiting etc. Go into this with a plan; it’s important to you so don’t mess it up!
The action to avoid comes up as Joy, which is strange at first but I think what it’s suggesting is that you mustn’t get complacent. Don’t think that because you have a good time together (maybe you’re good friends?) that means that there’s any guarantee that she’ll want a romantic relationship, and I suppose don’t get lulled into a false belief that friendship on its own is really all you want. Don’t assume anything, and be prepared for the fact that this might not go the way you want it to.
The cards aren’t guaranteeing a good outcome for you (nothing is ever guaranteed) but the message is very much that you have to take the plunge. Rip the band-aid off, take the leap, whatever metaphor you choose. From my own personal experience, I can tell you it’s a lot easier to get over someone once you know that you have to, and if you don’t ask then you're likely to regret it, especially if you know that your feelings are real and not just a crush. Don’t let yourself live in false hope or false disappointment, just ask the question now and be done with it.
Good luck!
I would like a tarot reading on what my next partner will be like please?:)
The Woodward, the Wildwood Tarot’s version of Strength, as the central card suggests that your next partner is likely to be a strong person in that they are able to remain positive, and perhaps they have been hurt without allowing it to make them bitter or jaded. It might also mean that if you have a tendency to be stubborn or aggressive when you’re having a bad day, then they’ll be someone patient enough to cope!
The other two cards, Attraction and Joy, bode well for your future relationship. Attraction suggest that you will become romantically interested in this person soon after meeting them or getting to know them properly, so try to keep an open mind: your next big romance could be right around the corner! Joy obviously implies that you’re going to make each other happy; they might have an infectious positivity which could pick you up from a slump if you’ve not been feeling yourself lately.
This is all looking like very good news for you - stay open to love and you will find it eventually :)
finally home! feels so good to be back, saw an amazing production of midsummer night’s dream out in the wooded fields, and feeling very well rested and happy
doing free tarot readings if anyone wants one, just drop me an ask :) it’s the wildwood tarot, and I’ll do a one or three-card spread depending on the question
got my results back and they are good, 2.1. in the bank, the job is happening :)
also inexplicably, the module I was convinced I’d failed (having not finished revising all the material I planned to revise, then being faced with a phrase in the question that I didn’t understand) was my best score. 71! looks like the random guess I took about what that phrase meant really paid off!
that’s also the only module I made a sigil to help me in; wonder if that made a difference? I felt very alert in the exam but I think that was mostly adrenaline from the fear of seeing that one question. but still, I like to think the sigil helped me, even if making it felt like procrastination at the time
Tarot Major Arcana based on Orange is the New Black
It’s a quick, dirty, two-card spread that takes just a minute or two to do, and provides loads of insight and clarity. This is the two-card cross.
so excited to move back home where I left my tarot cards and all my witchy things.. going to do a lot of magic this summer :)

Deck Interview Spread
I found this spread a few years ago on Aeclectic Tarot. It is a simple six card spread that allows you to meet your new tarot deck and get to know it. It’s strengths and weaknesses. It’s personality. It will show how it can help you grow, become a better reader and a better person. It is usually the first spread I throw for any deck.
The cards can be laid out any way you prefer, I lay mine out left to right.
Card #1: Tell me about yourself? What is your most important characteristic? The general personality of your deck. This question will reveal if your deck is painfully truthful, a prankster, a pragmatist, a romantic, etc.
Card #2: What are your strengths as a deck? The best features of your deck. This will help decide what kind of questions to ask and spreads to throw.
Card #3: What are your limits as a deck? This card represents the challenges, blocks and obstacles your deck may have. This is also helpful to decide what questions to ask and spreads to throw.
Card #4: What do you bring to the table? What are you here to teach me? We all have teachers in life and Tarot’s higher purpose is to teach us. To show us our areas of growth and help us improve.
Card #5: How can I best learn from and collaborate with you? Tarot, like all relationships, is a partnership. This card shows how to best utilize that partnership and shows you the best way to approach your deck.
Card #6: What is the potential outcome of our relationship? The most likely result of working diligently with your deck.
Oo I love this!
