Steve Jobs (2015)

The behind the scenes story of Steve Jobs presenting three major revolutionary products in his life.

This movie is filled with greatness. With the amazing acting from the actors, the proper direction and the well-written script, I think it’s a biopic movie which shows what you need and want to know. An entertaining movie for a biography-drama.

If you want fact-to-fiction-that-looks-like-a-documentary movie, you won’t enjoy this.

American Ultra (2015)

A stoner, who is a well-trained killing machine, and his girlfriend are hunted down by the CIA for the extermination.

An action-packed movie that sends off an ‘accidental spy’ vibe. I liked the story, it was uncommon. Meanwhile, some characters just doesn’t fit in the story. The plot is plain. The tone of the movie is dull but it is still a watchable action movie. This was considered an action, comedy in IMDb but sadly I didn’t laugh.

Creed (2015)

Former world boxing champion, Rocky Balboa, trains his former enemy and best friend’s son, Adonis Johnson. They both follow the essence of father/son relationship.

Latest installment of Rocky and heck it is damn good. I loved the chemistry of Balboa and Creed. The sport-drama story is very effective. The plot gives resemblance to the other installments but in the other way. Superb acting by Michael B Jordan, who got my nerves in the most disappointing superhero movie, Fant4stic.

A must watch movie that gives off a heart-warming and a powerful message.

Rocky Balboa (2006)

Rocky Balboa comes out of retirement for his final fight against the currently heavyweight champion, Mason Dixon.

The final fight of Rocky is outstanding. I know it’s a cliched word, but it’s really outstanding. You can really feel your sympathy with Rocky. The writing is good. Although, some characters are just out of place.

This is not a boxing movie, it’s a movie about Rocky’s life with a powerful message.

Rocky V (1990)

Rocky retires and now trains his protege who betrayed him. As Rocky fails to create a new legacy, he also fails to bond with his family.

This is clearly an underrated Rocky installment. It redirects from the formula of the first four to a new one which, in my opinion, had a perfect execution. All of the build up of the scene is outstanding. People probably expect more of action, but it wasn’t an action movie. It was Rocky trying to live his life as a retired boxer. The movie just failed to develop the supporting character who needs proper development.

Overall, it was a fun, entertaining movie.

Rocky IV (1985)

After a Soviet athlete killed Apollo Creed, Rocky comes to Russia to train and beat the Creed’s killer.

This fourth installment is still entertaining. It is still action packed and very inspiring. For me, it was just wrong to add politics, or the insertion of political stuff was just inappropriate. Moreover, the poor strength of the supporting characters involved.

Formulaic but entertaining

Deadpool (2016)

A former Special Force was subjected to an experiment to cure his cancer. This experiment made him a more asswipe, bad mouthed antihero who has an accelerated healing powers.

The R16 rating was given a justice in this movie. All of it, name it, this movie has it. I loved the plot and type of execution of the story. Deadpool is definitely Ryan Reynolds from the start. No, seriously. I loved all of it. Even easter eggs and mockery, I appreciated all of it. This is the Deadpool movie you have been waiting for.

Ride Along 2 (2016)

A cop comedy that busts a billionaire which is secretly a drug dealer. Ben and James tries to capture this criminal in Miami, and shits happened.

I liked the silliness of this movie. I laughed hard a few times. It was pretty entertaining. Although the script was just a rip-off of the original, and full of in-and-out characters.

The Good Dinosaur (2015)

A dinosaur was separated from his family with a human that was a pest for the dino family. They both try to find home.

A Disney family adventure that touches hearts. I mean, what Disney-Pixar film doesn’t touch your heart. The humor and the adventure is present. This has a unique story.

It was good, I liked it, but it wasn’t enough to satisfy audience. The ending doesn’t give any closure.

Spotlight (2015)

Journalists from Boston Globe collaborates to tackle a certain issue, the molestation of Catholic Priests, which shook the Catholic Church down to its core internationally.

I am Catholic and this movie is so good that it made me think of the meaning of priests. I didn’t know that there was an issue like this before and now I am amazed.

Bringing this issue up in the movie is not easy but it was flawlessly inserted in a scene. I liked the acting. I loved how characters relate to the issue. I can’t say anything bad in this movie.

This is my entry for best picture for Oscars, so far. Next, would be The Revenant.

The Last Witch Hunter (2015)

A dark, fantasy movie about an immortal witch hunter hunting witch from the old times to the modern day.

I really like the story and concept. Movie somehow developed likable characters.

Before I watched this, I have an impression that this movie will be like Dracula Untold and I, Frankenstein‘s atmosphere and tone, so I was not expecting a lot of this movie. It was super very dead serious that I can’t enjoy every single scene. I think the supporting characters having a light side and dark side should have been more enjoyable than this.

For me, it was not an entertaining movie.

The Danish Girl (2015)

A happily married painter couple embraces each others masterpiece. Their marriage was put to test when Einar, the husband, blooms as Lili to the journey of being a transgender.

The movie is obviously about blooming flowers, if you know what i mean. It indirectly says what does the society thinks of being another gender.

It showed the evolution of the protagonist carefully. Amazing performance of all the actors and actresses. Pretty convincing.

I was bothered by the execution of the story, it was filled with distractions which made me lose attention.

Great movie

The Corpse of Anna Fritz (2015)

Anna Fritz, a beautiful, famous actress, is found dead at a party. In the hospital where her body was stored, Pau, a morgue attendant, sent a picture of her body to his two friends and eventually, sneaked into the morgue to see her naked body.

A suspense fantasy thriller movie. Pretty entertaining, nicely paced for a 76 minute film. Liked the plot twists. I was just looking for more explanations.

Other than that, The Corpse of Anna Fritz is good film. I wasn’t expecting this movie to be great because I saw the running time is less than 80 minutes. I thought it was overrated.

I am expecting a Hollywood version of this in the near future.

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)

Three boy scouts and a former schoolmate lead the survival of the apocalyptic rage of zombies.

The usual comedy at its finest. It made audience laugh but failed in some scenes. It introduces new types of zombies and it was silly but unique.

It makes awkward scenes more awkward because of their trying-hard drama.

Corny but pretty entertaining.

Room (2015)

A story of a five-year-old boy and his mother escaped from their little world and found new discoveries.

I can’t talk more because I might spoil it.

This is an inspiring and empowering movie. Gives you an impression of innocence. It has the ability to make you cry, laugh and be thrilled. Combine this with the great and artistic cinematography. The story line has smooth transition and was executed perfectly. The plot and character development jives together which makes this a more watchable movie than any other non-animated-character-driven movie.

As an audience, I don’t have a problem with this movie.

This is one of the best movies of 2015. You must watch it.

Trumbo (2015)

Dalton Trumbo was Hollywood’s top screenwriter until he and other artists were exiled and blacklisted for being in the Communist party.

The movie’s writing is smart, beautifully made (which will make the movie very ironic if it was not). I really felt Trumbo, and he got my sympathy throughout the movie. Great acting of Bryan Cranston. I liked the movie tho I saw some flaw.

This is a character packed movie at the same time a biography drama. The supporting characters are not meant to be focused on but they need proper exposure, that’s what this movie failed to execute. In the end, I didn’t know and I didn’t care about the other characters.

That was my only problem.

Great movie tho.

Beauty and the Bestie (2015)

Emman, a policeman, needs his former best friend, Erika, to be an asset to a mission.

Craziness is all I have to say. I laughed as much as I expected. I liked the way they're breaking the fourth wall, you know if you watch classic Filipino films like Rene Requiestas introducing the director in the middle of the movie. The chemistry between Coco Martin and Vice Ganda is absolutely effective. The fighting scenes in this movie are better than some other serious Action Drama films. It gives justice to the action genre through the production design and choreography.

It was satisfying to watch it with laughs but there are some obviously unsettling moods. The supporting love story, JaDine, is out of place.

Another problem was the movie trying not to be awkward on drama scenes. It made the audience not care about that character.

A new flavor for a Wenn Deramas movie. I must say this is a worth watching two-hour comedy film.
