It wasn't very often that Sam liked to visit other convenience stores, especially when she could get a special discount at the 7-11 she worked at. But considering she’d stopped into the library for a quiet spot to study and her job wasn't exactly the closest, she had to opt for the one right down the street. At least the layout was similar, but there was a small ounce of jealousy when she saw two extra flavors at the Slurpee dispenser, as well as a wider selection of cold pastries. What to choose? Her store didn't have cakes, and this one had nice little prepackaged slices that even came with adorable miniature forks. There was chocolate, red velvet, yellow, strawberry... Nibbling the inside of her lip, Sam lifted a plastic container with a giant chunk of carrot cake. Glancing at the girl behind the counter, she jokingly asked in a quiet and tired fashion, “If carrots are vegetables, then does that mean I can eat this whole slice of carrot cake and count it as one out of my five-a-day?”

Sam was the last person to admit that sometimes a little bit of fresh air did wonders for the mind and relaxation. Usually she’d be the one denying it left and right, not wanting to tear herself away from the comfort of her home. It was always when she managed to take a walk and clear her head did she find it in herself to agree with others how great it was. Sunday also happened to be one of the better days for her. Most people didn't seem to want to go out that day, usually at home with their families or at church early in the morning. Taking the grand opportunity of solitude, Sam quickly stopped by the corner store she worked at to pick up some discounted candy and headed to the nearest park for a stroll. There weren’t many people around. A couple out sitting in the grass and having a picnic, an older man feeding birds from a brown paper bag, a few kids with their tired parents at the playground area. The clouds were the color of pocket lint, blocking the sun from ruining the nice little chill that settled in. Plopping down on a worn out bench, she sighed softly while opening up one of the suckers she bought earlier. Almost as if some crazy ritualistic call had been made, a little girl bounded straight for her with an adorable smile, hair pulled up in bouncy pigtails. Sam didn’t even have the time to form a word before the cute beast yanked the lollipop free from her grip and ran away with it in her mouth. The nerve... “You’ve heard the phrase “like taking candy from a baby”, right?” she asked toward the oncoming girl. Looking up so her gaze could direct that she was talking to the other, she ventured on, “Well, today the baby took the candy off me.”

So it’s when of those evenings where Solar takes refugee in one of the bars is Seoul, wanting to escape the daily life problems and try to escape her thoughts. Swinging her hips from left to right she dances, having taken her spot on the dancefloor an half hour ago. She’s all by herself and she’s slightly annoyed at how many guys try to hit on her or offer her a ride home. Being old enough she figures she can take care of her own and right now she’s kind of done with the male gender. When another guy puts his hands on her waist and starts dancing with her she rolls her eyes and sighs. Mouthing bathroom and pointing at a direction - she has no idea if she’s pointing the right way - she makes her way through the crowd, wanting to leave the crowded dancefloor and get herself a drink. Mumbling some things to herself under her breath she heads towards the bar, she leans over the bar to order, until a female voice reaches her ear. Looking to her side a smirk tugs on her lips, her eyes small in amusement. The words coming from the attractive girl next to are something else and the fact she isn’t one of those horny tipsy guys make her even more amused. “You lost your drink?” she chuckles, covering her mouth with her hand. “Because you’re so cute I’ll buy you one~ but!” Solar smiles, biting her lip as she thinks hard, “promise to dance with me later? It’s only fair.” Turning to the bartender she orders two drinks, waiting for them to be served. “I’m Solar by the way~”

"I did! See?” she laughed softly, showing the empty glass before sliding it back to the bartender. "Technically it got lost after drinking it, am I right?” Sam took a step closer to the other girl, seeing as her cheesy joke worked. Nibbling at the little silver ring adorning her lip, she finally gave the other a once-over, as she hadn't before. It had just been completely random, asking Solar in specific for the drink, as she would have probably asked any girl coming up. As the smile on her cheeks grew, a little tingling of comfort and happiness settled. Solar had a sense of humor and seemed chill; a bit different than the usual girls she ran into at the club. Hearing the compliment paired with the invitation suddenly got her sheepish, trying to find her words as she glanced between the other and the bartender after their drinks were freshly ordered. Sorting her thoughts in the span of a couple seconds, she went on, “Solar? Like that Taeyang album?” A chuckle, but wrong choice of first words. “I’m Sam, though. And I totally promise to dance, but I can’t promise that I’m any good at it.” It was a small excuse; one made to be closer to the other girl. It wasn't that Sam was horrible at following a rhythm, but it wasn't as if she could roll her body like a member of an idol group.  “Teach me?” she mused as lithe fingers wrapped around her glass. “I promise I won’t step on your toes. Or knock you over.” Shooting a stray look over to the dance floor, Sam almost felt nervous. Comedic events played in her mind. What if she did step on the other’s toes? Or knock her over? That probably wouldn't make the greatest impression, or score a possible second meeting. Sipping at the hard dink in her hands, her eyes fell back to Solar. Taking advantage of the possible awkward scenario, she joked, “At least, not physically.”

Beer wasn't exactly Sam’s choice of drink. It smelled rancid, looked like dirt-water, and tasted like what urine would possibly taste like after someone was dehydrated for a few days. Still, it didn't stop her from going to the nearest watering hole and nabbing a drink, though it was usually some fruity cocktail taking its hue from the rainbow. The only problem was that about ninety percent of the time, an older woman would always scuttle into the bar, order a water, sit beside her, and continuously say religious propaganda while looking like she need to be sent away to a nursing home for special cases. To say it was frightening would be an understatement. Hoping tonight would fall under the ten percent, she looked around the dark, little establishment while seated at the bar. Maybe it was time to find a new place to go if all she was going to during those spare times of freedom was glance over her shoulder in a combination of fear and annoyance. After doing a glance back for umpteenth time that night, Sam couldn't help but visibly jump at the frame of the male behind her. Apologizing profusely, and even offering to pay for his drink at her own stupid reaction, she continued on, “The paranoid old lady who’s a regular here always asks if my moles are there to keep track of my visits with Satan.” Giving another quick look around, Sam narrowed her eyes in distaste when she saw the older woman slowly coming through the entrance and returning the gaze. Sam scoffed, turning back to her drink before asking, “Why would you even say that to a person?”

“No actually. People tend to like hearing good things about themselves,” Hallel told raising a brow at her start. Hallel was not offended by the others statement. She actually had enjoyed the other calling her out because it showed that Sam was no simple girl to impress. Hallel wanted to try harder for her. “Thank you, my dear, and yes I am free. Please lead the way,” she stated happily as her brow rested and she nodded slowly. “I will make a note to do more talking and less flirting to you. I want to go somewhere, and if flattery leads us no where, then it is a waste of time,” Hallel began, “but I am going to keep calling you beautiful because its true,” she told with a smile.

"Ah, I always heard from my dad that foxes liked to flatter... Different than compliments, y’know. Compliments don’t have an ulterior motive.” Sam shrugged sheepishly before her hands plummeted into the pockets of her over-sized hoodie. “Good man. Like a tall, Korean version of Yoda without the funny talking,” she continued on, moving to step in line with the other girl while beginning to walk and keep their pace matched. Her eyes drifted around the cityscape to make mental note of where they were and which direction they needed to head into. A light laugh escaped her lips at the word ‘beautiful’, but it made her feel nice regardless. “Beautiful, huh? Really now? You look like you could be a model, walking on the runway in Paris or Milan though.” A pause, stopping to purse her lips and humorously glare. “Let me guess. I got it right? Or what do you do? I’m curious.”

Finals were almost over. Just another week, and it was time for a short spring break. After a fan had asked on her ask.fm account a month ago if she liked to read, Sam had suddenly felt the urge to go through her own bookshelf and figure out which steps she needed to take in series she wanted to complete. There was also the growing mental wish list that she probably should write down somewhere, but never got around to. There were a few things that could be crossed out, seeing as she went to the bookstore already a couple days ago. Sadly, that particular store didn't have everything she wanted, and there was a constant need she felt to go to another larger store in the next district. Quickly she bustled along through the shelves, piling new releases from favorite authors to the next up-and-coming in the horror game, sequels to stories about dragons to the final book of a supernatural detective written in gritty film noir fashion. Employees shot her worried looks and muttered to each other, occasionally asking if they could help or take any of the growing collection to the counter. All they were met with was a cheerful, husky ‘nope!’, her face obscured by the mountain of paperbacks in her grip. It didn't take long for Sam to regret her initial decision to deny help. With little panicked whimpers, she watched as the stacked wobbled to and fro. A few books slipped and flipped from the top, pages fluttering as they flew and landed with soft plops on the girl she didn’t even know was ahead of her. A sharp wince overtook her facial features as her vocal chords tightened, unable to muster the apology she knew she would be stammering in moments.

Generally Sam’s days fell into a repetitive pattern. While others would probably complain about the normality of it all, she loved it. It gave some semblance of peace in her life. Most people hated waking up early and had to force themselves with three rounds of a blaring alarm clock and a mug of chalky black coffee, but she didn’t know the feeling. Waking up at 6AM every morning, including weekends, was just part of the routine. The quiet chill made the gears of her mind work in overtime, making it easier to practice her songwriting and the flow of her rap. Today just had to be the sour, rotten fruit of the bunch. There wasn't any point in practicing with a throat laced with sand paper that burned like an entire hill of fire ants had decided to bite whatever patch of skin and muscle they could find. And there wasn’t anything Sam knew she could do about it.  Ever since she was a little girl, she’d always had problems with sore throats and migraines, and she didn’t know how to express her pain. Crying never helped. In fact, she didn’t even really know how to. Both a curse and blessing to her parents, Sam was silent a majority of the time when it came to things that annoyed and upset her. Disappointed in herself with eyes rimmed red and cheeks splotched with angered blush, she scuttled herself out of her apartment complex. While out, she had managed to somehow make a large circular trip to five different corner stores, getting a different box of creamy popsicles from each. Bright pinks and muted browns, cream-filled to swirled -- she had it all. As childish as it was, and even borderline bratty, it had to help. Plopping herself down on the sidewalk in front of the apartment, she crammed popsicle after popsicle into her mouth, building up a pile of wrappers.  “I was annoyed and wandering around, and stopped to buy five boxes of popsicles,” she explained matter-of-factly out loud as she saw the delivery girl come to drop off newspapers for the apartment complex. “I’m just going to sit around and eat them all, but... It’s sort of a lot.” Licking her lips, Sam dug into the neon blue box of cream-filled fudgecicles and handed the other girl one. All the sugar building up had made her more talkative and friendly than before. “Want to join me?”

Maybe it was the dingy gray clouds above or the silent humidity of the air around her, but Sam had never felt more alone than today. Not in a depressed manner, no, but the literal definition of being the the only person. It was enough to set an eerie static in her bones, causing her to pull her jacket tighter around her slight frame. Maybe filling up with some warm beverage and a random pastry would ease the feeling away. The thought made her hurry along to the nearest café she knew would have the quality she was looking for. Empty. Except for one male, who she thought looked familiar but shrugged it off, and a solo teenage girl behind the counter who obviously felt she had better things to do than be at work on a slow day. Sam knew the feeling all too well. She made sure to be extra courteous to ease the employee’s apparently iffy day before taking her black coffee and berry-crusted croissant. A more delicious medicine of sorts, she thought, to chase back ill feelings and sleepy thoughts. “It’s very quiet today...,” Sam spoke aloud as she stood gazing out the streaky window. Her voice was mellow, but still loud enough to carry over to the man a couple tables away. “Zombie apocalypse, or something happened today and I didn’t get the memo?”

a quick pick-me-up after class was always what got her going for the rest of the day– especially if her class had been scheduled at eight in the morning, and her alarm had rang two hours ahead of her supposed time to wake up, but whatever it was, she needed caffeine in her system. else, she’d collapse. …. well, kinda. the line had been long that very day in the cafe, and she’d been a little too eager at receiving her order. a female had been before her, and as soon as she paid for her coffee, the sight of a takeaway cup placed on the counter caught her attention– and just as quickly as that did, she took it into her hands and hurried off, eager to get some fresh air. it hadn’t even occurred to her that she’d taken someone else’s order by accident; that is, until she heard the shout coming from behind her. “…. yours?” whirling around on her heels, she looked at the girl who’s seemingly calling out towards her before glancing down at the cup in her hands and raising it in her direction. “this?”

Despite not having to go very far to catch up to the other girl, Sam momentarily lost her breath. Whether it was out of the quick panic and movement while her muscles and brain were still tired, or because she was more out of shape than she thought, or merely annoyed was unknown, but there she stood, faintly huffing and puffing for a moment.  “Yeah. That.” Her eyes widened faintly as she nodded at the drink in the other’s hand. To put in extra emphasis, she gave a sharp point with her left hand while raising what she thought was the other girl’s drink in her right. There was an almost ludicrous difference in size, which almost left Sam embarrassed by the sight of how much coffee she had planned to pour down her gullet. “I paid for that. Seriously, look at the sizes. That’s like a 4,000 Won difference there. Legit.” The more the situation dragged on, the stupider she felt. Also the thought of the other’s lips and saliva already on her straw set off her unconscious germaphobia. With a tired sigh, her arms weakly dropped. “And can we trade straws too?” she added in as a weak joke.
