H.G.F.D Explained.
H.G.F.D means “hard gyal fi dead” the inspiration for the hook of this song came from a song by By Prince Buster called “Hard man fi dead” my uncle used to sing this song to me all the time when I was little, carrying me on he’s shoulders to Hellshire beach in Jamaica, I never forgot it and this is what it means to me..
I feel H.G.F.D is one of the ways that I can be defined not only as an artist but as an individual. This song was never intended to express any form of physical immunity to death, I want it to express the invincibility that I believe we all have in us, not to be overcome by life and all the things that come with it, be they good or bad. I will never allow anything to kill me mentally. my spirit, my beliefs, my goals, my opinion, my ability to go and get whatever is mine (my money lol) can never be suppressed by life or the people in it. I wasn’t born into a wealthy family but growing up I thought I was, when in reality I just had two hard working parents who were stopped by nothing or no one, and remain that way till this day. I was always surrounded by strong women and they instilled a lot of these things in me. It’s okay to fall and make stupid decisions and mistakes we all learn our lessons in this way. I have job to do I have to believe in my self if I don’t who will it’s no ones job to believe in me, that to me is a privilege, I am privileged and thankful to have the support of others but self belief comes first.
With every supporter comes a hater, it’s the balance of life, you can’t and will never have one without the other. So I just embrace it for what it is, an opinion and keep it moving it changes nothing about who I am. If I had considered everything said about me the truth,I wouldn’t have achieved anything that I have achieved and I wouldn’t be writing this today.
"Yuh lick mi down mi ago bounce right back" what more can I say.
If you have overcome something or are still working through it then just like me you are a hard gyal or man fi dead you choose..
Work hard.. Get money..
I thank you all for reading and for all your support.
