Do you feel like you and your coach finding it hard to communicate?
It's so frustrating when you think you are doing all you can but your coach is not responding to your efforts isn't it?!
After all, you are both trying to achieve the same thing - win games and enjoy the game aren't you?
How can you reach him? How can you get through to him what you are feeling?
You have to remember that your coach is a human being with feelings and problems just like you, I know that's hard to believe me, trust me! :))
He has to try and please a group of 20-25 people and this is a tough job, can YOU imagine trying to squeeze 25 very selfish cats through a small hole in a fence.
That's a funny image isn't it?!
This is a little bit like a coaches job! Very, very difficult.
Every one of those cats, I mean players, think THEY are the most important one and that their problems are the most important.
Let's be honest you are only interested in how to make things better for you aren't you?
It's ok, you can admit it to me, I won't tell anyone.
The coach, however, has to try to make sure that everyone of their players are working to their maximum in every training session and every game while at the end of every week disappointing a lot of them by leaving out for the game, it's not easy is it?
It's a very, very tough job.
Anyway back to you, you are the only one we are bothered about it isn't ? :)
So, how do you make sure you can communicate better with coach?
Well, remembering that he is human, has his own problems (and is trying to squeeze the cats through the gate, remember?) then you will need to pick the right time to speak to him.
It would make no sense to speak to him when you can see he is in a bad mood or just lost a game would it?
Timing - soccer, like life is about timing, you have to pick the right time to approach him, pick a time when you can see he might be open to some dialogue,
If you think it's a group problem, then maybe it's an idea for a few of you to approach him and tell him what you are feeling.
Tell him honestly that you are doing your best but you feel it's just not working and you'd like to speak to him to understand what you can do to make things right.
If they are a good coach they will always listen to their players because, as Sven Goran Eriksson the world famous soccer coach said to me 'Mark, if Im coaching a team it makes sense for me to talk to the players and ask them what they are feeling, what they like and what they don't like, after all THEY are playing not me.
Common sense from one of the best coaches in the world, should work with your coach shouldn't it??
Let me know how you get on!!
