The thing they don't tell you about doing postgraduate physics is that you have to submit all your knowledge of math that you got in undergrad to the department office upon admission (the department eats your math knowledge for sustenance, you see, since it doesn't get enough funding to survive on) and then they give you one (1) DE to solve and it ruins your entire life.

I asked some 2nd years to verify my maths the other day. They looked at me like I was crazy, but soon enough they will struggle with very basic mechanics problems too.

The notes spike has subsided somewhat, and this post is almost at 30k, so I figured now’s as good a time as any to follow up on this, in a significantly more wordy post that I suspect won’t blow up nearly as much. *ahem*

A few points:

This is a list of omega baryons: these are baryons (particles made up of 3 quarks) which contain no up quarks or down quarks (the quarks that protons and neutrons are made from, and also the two quark flavours with the lowest mass)

Top omegas are probably impossible

To the visionary who reblogged this and put in the tags that this implies the existence of a double charmed double bottom omega: unfortunately the strong nuclear force does not work that way

To the people who reblogged this asking why the omegas are all dead: don’t worry, the crosses don’t mean they’re dead, they just mean those particles haven’t been observed yet
