WE ARE ALREADY AT WAR

It hits me: We are already at war.

The government has moved beyond simple propaganda. While those machines like FOX News and right-wing websites are still active, the actions of those in power illustrate beyond a doubt that they are engaged in active psychological warfare against the population of this country.

And we are complicit.

It is hours since Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court of the United States. Social Media remains flooded with memes and posts of solidarity against the very idea that an accused rapist and proven perjurer could have a seat on the highest court in the land. Between these posts are more posts:

-the New York Times investigation of the Trump family’s criminal tax history -advertisements for democratic candidates in the upcoming November midterm elections -rebel elements inside the EPA warning about the rollback of mercury regulations -Bernie Sanders supporters reminding us that the House of Representatives passed another tax overhaul that awaits our protest -Amazon not really giving workers the celebrated $15 per hour because so many are 1099 contracted -cars traded and traded again for healthcare -videos of maybe a dozen people in a small room using big words to discuss big issues -civil posts about why civility needs to go out the window -the usurper in the White House calling those that challenge him “screamers” and “radical”

And we read it all.

And repost it all.

And we do nothing more.

From most, I have seen calls to vote in November. And while we definitely should, as it is unlikely the institutions of government and capitalism will crumble before then, we need to do more. On the fringes I have seen calls for anger, organizing, mass protests, strikes, armament, militant action. Of course, here is where people balk and say that such actions will lead to a new Civil War.

We are already at war.

It’s time to end it.

You know when you see a post or hear something and go “Yeah, that’s totally IT. Why didn’t I think of that?” ... That’s your brain recognizing another part of your privilege, telling you to appreciate and learn from someone outside your bubble of personal experience. So do that.

Tsunami

The past two years have been uncertain, terrifying, and filled with every kind of hate that men can conjure. It is time for voices of change and progress to actualize those words.

If you are registered to vote, go vote. If you are not registered to vote, register and go vote. If you can drive, take as many friends as will fit in your car, and drive for others who may not be able.

At the end of voter registration day, I present my personal contribution. Share it. Wear it. Stick it on your phone or computer. Make them see the wave that is coming for them.

I hope it swallows them whole.
