A vague pause, hand drifting to the scarf on his neck. He mulled. Guide-san’s words rang smoothly as Yῡya spoke, ‘You saw duelists from the future?’ “Well that is—troubling,” especially if his experience spoke true && Yῡya was very [NOT FROM ‘ROUND HERE.]

(ALTHOUGH, who knew, he could have been [INCREDIBLY] wrong.) “Where are you from Yῡya-han?” He inquired, head cocked. “If you’d still like snacks, however, there are many shops catering to duelists if you have the DP for it.”

“I’m from Maiami City,” he smiled.  “In the south.”

“DP?  Sounds fancy.”  He had no idea what the kid was talking about there.  Zarc’s expression curdled slightly as he got more serious.  “Hey, kiddo.  I think I’m a long way from home.“

…Now he recognizes that voice. It comes flooding back to him at the simple mention of Ray.

And before he’s realized he’s done it, he’s seized Yuya– no, Zarc- by the front of his shirt, twisting his fist into the fabric.

“The only thing I’m calling you is a liar.” He’s glowering, a painful flicker in his eyes as his grip tightens. “They’re not gone, you can’t do something like that! Yuya…Yuto… They’re all still in there. Just like before.”

So it couldn’t have been true that they were gone. Shun refused to believe something like that. And besides– “Even if you could help me bring Ruri back… why would you? It’s certainly not out of the goodness of your heart. What are you looking to gain from me in return?”

“Yuya Sakaki, Yuri Matsuki, Yuto Kashiwagi, and Yugo are dead.  They were destroyed by Ray.”

“Why would I lie about that if I was still Yuya?” he countered.  He lets Kurosaki grab him, he knows he wouldn’t risk hurting Yuto.

“I want revenge.  You must understand what that’s like, Kurosaki.  And besides, I’m 1/4th Yuto.  Akaba Leo destroyed our homeland and our culture in a total war for one person.  He should have been executed, but instead he’s sitting pretty with Ray.  Doesn’t that sting?”

“But that’s besides the point.  I want to take revenge on Ray.  I think splitting her into 4 again like she did to me and scattering the pieces all over the world would be a great revenge.”

Just because the fact he seemed out of place didn’t mean he had expected anyone to come up to him and say something about it. The face staring up at him almost reminded him of his brother, innocent, or at least appearing to be. Another part of matched his own reflection, something unnatural.

“Is that so?” His voice stayed cold and lacking emotion for the moment. The dimensional traveling was only to collect information for his own use back home. It wasn’t necessary to start anything here.

“Oi oi, don’t be cold,” he said, using Yuya’s tone of voice.

Definitely not a normal person.  “I’ve got the feeling that you know something I don’t,” he said, passing it off as a joke.  The man was a couple years older than him and had dark, plain hair.  He was also quite tall and wearing an unusual outfit.  It almost reminded him of Yuri.

“My, what do we have here?” asked Zarc.  “You look rather out of place.”

Inside his head, the cogs were already turning.  A potential ally?  This person didn’t look anything like the normal background characters in Ray’s reformed dimension.  He would have pinned them for an agent of Fusion if the Academia wasn’t gone.

“–What..?”

That… wasn’t what he expected from Yuya. It’s done well to catch him off guard and he stares, wide-eyed for a second longer than intended.

“Of course I miss her–” Ruri still existed, yes. Within Yuzu. But… He shakes his head cutting his thoughts short.

This wasn’t sitting quite right with him. The subject, the change in Yuya’s demeanor, none of it. A bubbling mixture of emotions was rising to the top of his throat, his voice rising along with it. “Why are you suddenly bringing this up now?! What do you want to talk about Ruri for?”

“Because I want to help you, Kurosaki.  There’s a lot of things I want back too.”

He gestured broadly, “Ray thought she could have her cake and eat it too.  Just cherry-pick Yuya back out, with the memories of the others.  Unfortunately, she failed.  Yuya is gone, just as much as the other four.  There’s only me now.”

“You can call me the second Zarc,” he smiled coyly at Kurosaki.

“I think if we work together, we can bring Ruri back.”

Did he have a second? Well… He supposes he did. Normally he’d be busying himself with the reconstruction of Heartland; but while he was here, he may as well take the time to see what Yuya wanted to talk to him about.

He could do that much for a comrade, after all.

“I do,” That smile– so it couldn’t have been about anything bad. Maybe it had to do with Yuto..? But with how unpredictive he knew Yuya and his reasonings could be for anything, he tried not to assume. “So what is it?”

Zarc glanced around, checking to make sure that nobody would listen in on them that Zarc didn’t want listening to them.

“Well, it’s just that-”

“I wanted to talk to you about Ruri,” Zarc’s demeanor changed immediately, his voice shifting deeper and less airy.  The way he held himself became more confident and firm.  “You miss her, don’t you?”

“YŪYA-han then,” well this conversation was somewhat smooth—though he could not understand the soft change in expression. (Oh, how future duelists were quite strange.)

HEAD cocked, eyes twinkled a little differently, something indiscernible, “Asian,” ironically given his foreign blood. “I’m Domino City’s Speed Dueling King of Games,” as he said that, he looked backward where the Kaiba Corporation building stood proudly. “If you’d like confirmation, there’s a smartboard over there listing current tournament winners.”

HE looked back, head cocked the other way, “Although, we simply named it ‘Speed Dueling Circuit’ in this City, easier to keep everything in one spot.”

“Heh, is that right?” his voice turned more like Yuri for a moment, not that Sigma would have noticed the resemblance.

“Well, I’m not sure where I am, then...  My mom told me to go get snacks, but I took a shortcut and now I’m lost...”  the part about being lost was true at least.  In reality, he had wanted to check this place out for anything interesting and gotten hopelessly out of place.

Besides, wasn’t Ray supposed to Rin-Rin’s original self? Rin would never hurt him…much, anyway. And by that logic, as far as Yugo was concerned, he was completely safe!

“You think Ray won’t hurt you?” he repeated slowly, as if talking to an idiot.  Which he was.

“Alright then, go outside.  Look around.  This isn’t the City we knew, or Maiami.  Not Heartland, or even the Academia.  All those places have been erased, like chalk dust being blown into the wind.  Ray is the one who did it.”
