Natasha smiled at the man’s quick insistence that she wasn’t bothering or interrupting him. She was the type of person that needed that sort of reassurance. “It’s been busy trying to avoid everyone else’s family.” Came her reply, though she wasn’t sure if she was admitting it more to him or to herself. Perking up at the mention of a brother, she tilted her head as she questioned, “A brother? What’s his name?” Nat folded her hands in her lap, looking out at the rest of the party as she continued to speak, “My brother is here as well but he’s a guard. I haven’t seen him yet.” In reality, Natasha doubted she would ever see Dominic again. And wasn’t sure she’d ever want to. Coming back to reality, she smiled, “It’ll be quieter, I hope. I’ll be happy for it. I’m Natasha, by the way.”

“I know what you mean, I’ve been trying to help them find their way around town and at the same time I’ve been trying to avoid them all.” Ian chuckled. It was quite the dilemma that he found himself in, one one hand he wanted to help and on the other he just wanted to stay away from most. He could see her excitement when he mentioned his brother and he couldn’t help but smile. “It’s Eli, he is an earth bender and I’m a fire bender.” Ian explained. “A guard? What’s his name?” Being a guard meant that he knew most of the other guards though he wasn’t close with all of them. “It’ll definitely be quieter and maybe you can see your brother now that things will settle down.” He said with a smile. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Natasha. I’m Ian Mako.”

The week was coming to an end and that meant that families were about to go back home and things would be going back to normal in Lake Grimstone, but what was normal?” Ian didn’t know. What he did know was that he wanted a week to just pretend that all was right with the world which was why he was at the farewell party. He had a drink in his hand and was sitting quietly watching as the people around him were partying and enjoying themselves, but his concentration was broken when he heard someone speaking to him rather than around him. Ian looked up at smiled at the girl. “It is now.” He said referring that the seat would now be taken by her.  “How has your week been so far?”

Upon closer inspection, it was obvious that the man had been in deep thought and Nat regretted for a moment pulling him from his own mind. Cautious, she pushed the skirt of her dress under her as she sat beside him, smiling softly. “I didn’t mean to interrupt anything.” She pointed at her head in a terrible attempt to indicate his thoughts. Glancing back out at everyone and their families, she shrugged at his question, “As good as I can be. I didn’t have family to visit with.” Natasha explained, tipping her head back toward him. “What about you? How has this week been?”

“Oh you’re not.” Ian was quick to say, he actually preferred the company, it kept him from over analyzing everything and it was also nice to have someone to talk to. Ian nodded and offered the girl a smile knowing exactly what it was like to not have anyone here during the week. “It’s been busy, or at least that’s what I keep telling myself.” He chuckled. “Like you, I didn’t have family come... my brother is here but he’s a resident so I see him around often.” He said with a shrug. “But the week is now over so we might as well enjoy it, no?”

Natasha paced slowly towards the designated patch of woods where she knew the bonfire would be held. Holding the sides of her dress in her hands and feeling wind at her bare back, she hoped she hadn’t overdone it. This was the first bonfire she had come to in her two years at Grimstone, after all. Releasing one side of her skirt, she tapped at the glitter around her eyes for what seemed like the thousandth time, ensuring it was still in place. As she neared the bonfire, Nat eyed someone sitting off to the side, smiling softly as she made her way to sit down. “Is this seat taken?” She asked, glancing around as she waited for a reply.

Ian walked down the street making sure that if anyone needed help they would get it. It was good for him to keep busy like that, it kept his mind off of the fact that not even his brother wanted to be around him at the moment, not that he blamed him since Ian often pushed the younger Mako away. Ian had been so consumed in his thoughts that he had almost missed that someone was in need of assistance. “We have mail slots.” He replied to the woman. “I can take you to where where she lives.” He offered. “I don’t know where she is at the moment, but she’s bound to go home at some point.” 

Kathy smiled and sighed in relief. It wasn’t as best as finding Rosalie and talking to her in person, but it would have to do. “Oh thank you dear. So much. I would greatly appreciate that.” Having her natural on her face still, Mrs. Moore held out her hand and introduced herself, “I’m Kathy Moore. Rosalie’s mother.” Glad that Lake Grimstone had welcoming and helpful people, Kathy felt a little more at ease after catching a couple glances at the destroyed buildings. The mother wondered, perhaps they are just remodeling?

Ian enjoyed helping people which was why he had become a guard. He figured that being a guard was the best way to help those in need. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mrs. Moore, I’m Ian Mako.” He took her hand a gave it a polite shake. “I’m a guard here so I try to know most of the people here.” He explained. Ian caught her looking around and he gave her a sheepish smile. “So, uh, it’s this way.” He said leading her in the opposite direction of where she was looking.

Oh how I’ve messed up, Kathy thought to herself and bit her lip nervously while looking around at everyone walking around to various shops and catching up with one another. Her other daughter, Dahlia, had decided to wait in a coffee shop until Kathy had a chance to speak alone with Rosalie first after their “incident” but poor Kathy was having no luck finding Rosalie. If worst came to worst, Kathy had a letter prepared to be sent to Rosalie and she and Dahlia would have to make do with whatever accommodations they could find for the rest of the week. Mrs.Moore really hoped it wouldn’t come to that and she believed it wouldn’t. She had to make this right. “Um…excuse me? I’m so sorry to interrupt but is there anyway you could point me in the right direction to the mail service? Or even better Rosalie’s mailbox?” Kathy held the envelope in her hand and then asked, “Have you seen Rosalie Moore by any chance? If you happen to know her I mean….”

“So I had no hope of recognising him. It’s good to know I can’t use him as a resting post anymore.” Jessica wouldn’t say they were close but she was the only one apart from his father who tried to understand Hunter. “Training sounds more like Hunter, that and chatting up anyone with a plus.” She giggled. “If it not to far out of your way? I don’t want to impose.” She agreed only after hearing that the man, Ian was a good friend of Hunters. “ I’m his cousin, Jessica. Are fathers are brothers, they moved from Italy together.” It was a bit of an over share but Jessica felt like she had to explain.

“Not really. Well maybe, you know depending on how he looked back in the day.” Ian chuckled.  “Training and work are about all that the guy seems to do, but I shouldn’t talk since I’m basically the same.” He said with a shrug and chuckle. It was true, the two had that in common. “I’m not waiting on anyone and Hunter might be upset if I let you wander off.” He said as he began to walk towards the training facility. “It’s nice to meet you Jessica, so are you the only one that came to see him?”

Jessica hates the ride here, so was so out of control. She didn’t know where they were going, she didn’t know how long the plane eid would be and most of all she didn’t know what the weather was like. Having that little control stressed Jessica out, but it only got worse when she arrived. Everyone knew their place or seemed to as they all went straight to their loved ones without hesitation.

Jessica pauses on the steps using the height as an advantage, but she still couldn’t pick Hunter out. Had he changed that much, or has he not changed at all and isn’t even here? The person behindes huffed obviously impatient to see their family member. She said made short work of the stairs but stood to the side not knowing where she was heading. She was so anxious it must have been written all over her face because someone approached her “ You wouldn’t happen to known where Hunter is? Hunter Cullen, about this big” she motioned the height she remembered him at at the age of sixteen.

It was a bittersweet moment for Ian, he was glad that people were getting to see their loved ones but he was also hurt that he had no one to come see him and Eli. Though he had invited a friend of his, someone he and Bianca knew from back home, but he wasn’t sure if he was coming. The guard made his way through the crowd trying to see if there was someone that needed help finding their way--he was also hoping to see his friend--and sure enough, he found someone in need of his assistance. 

“Hmm more like this big.” He said moving her hand higher up to reflect his friend’s actual height. “He should be around here and if not he might be training, it seems like that is all he does nowadays. I can take you to the training facility if you want.” He offered and then realized that she had no idea who he was and would probably not want to leave with a complete stranger. “I’m Ian Mako, by the way, I’m good friends with Hunter.”

He didn’t blame her for not being fine, he didn’t even think that those that fought alongside TRP were fine, not completely at least. “Are you trying to convince me or yourself? Because it’s okay if you’re not.” Ian wanted her to know that it was okay to feel the way she did, he was definitely not dine, how could he be after all that he had seen? “Hey,” he shook his head at her words and raised his hand up as if asking her to stop. “You don’t need to apologize, this was not your job, it was ours. I’m sorry that we couldn’t keep you guys safe. You all deserved better than this.” 

“Both?” Rosalie replied truthfully for the woman was indeed trying to convince herself more than anyone else she spoke to. Though, saying it loud wasn’t helping. Not yet anyway. Rosalie watched Ian’s hands and stiffened a little being reminded of Zane’s hand and how he had manipulated her with his powers. “Um…y-yeah. I guess I don’t need to apologize but, still wish there had been some way or some warning we could have all seen before any of this happened.” The shadow mimicker swallowed hard forcing herself to roll her shoulders and be less stiff and to remind herself this man wasn’t Zane. “We all deserved better….” she paused and bit her lip before adding, “even those who were on TRP’s side.”

“That sounds about right, I think that we are all trying to convince ourselves and others that we are okay... even though we’re not.” The last part was just above a whisper. Ian’s brow furrowed when he watched her tense up a little. While he didn’t know why she had done that, he didn’t want to seem pushy. Ian nodded at her words, he wished that too, that they could have done more to help stop TRP. “You know, as much as I would love to somehow turn back time and help stop this, it’s nearly impossible to guarantee that we will get things right.” Ian had thought about it quite a lot, actually, but he knew that doing that wasn’t as easy as one might think, there were a lot of factors that would go in to play. “Maybe instead of just thinking about what we could have done, we could try to do something... I don’t want to believe that this is the end of it all.”

Hunter had never been so happy to hear the males voice. He could stop worrying, stop wondering if Ian had come though this. Even if it was kinda crazy to worry because if anyone was going to make it through the battle it was going to be Ian. “And you need to give He a hug.” Hunter moved across to give his friend a brief hug, it was like an unspoken ‘I’m happy your alive’. “What happened up here? Me and Jackson, they took us. I’m gonna take it their scared of the three of us together.”

Seeing Hunter was a great relief to Ian, it felt like a wight had been lifted of his shoulder. The guard gave his friend a hug and patted his back before stepping away. “It was chaos. People, friends, were fighting each other and as hard as we tried we... people died.” Ian ran his hands through his curly hair and let out a sigh. “We could have really used you guys here.” He admitted.

The guard let out a sigh and shook his head as he walked down the street of a town that he once called home. 

Could it still be home? He wondered as he continued to walk it was then that he bumped in to Rosalie Moore. “No, I’m the one that’s sorry… I wasn’t paying attention.” He explained. “How uh how are you?” It was a stupid question but one that needed to be asked.

Rosalie looked up at the guard and quickly swallowed back her tears and did her best to clear her throat before replying, “I’m everything but fine right now….but,” she froze and looked away feeling a tear fall from her frustration and hopelessness at the moment, “I’ll be fine tomorrow. Really.” I’ll be back to my old optimistic and cheerful self, she thought or hoped for even now in the mix of her gloomy emotions. Scratching her nose a little and biting her lip to hold back more tears, Rosalie glanced at Ian again and asked, “How are you and the rest of the guards? I’m sorry we couldn’t be more help….”

Hunters bones wheezed as he walked through the tarnished town. Ten years, Hunter had been here for ten years and this is what his town was now reduced to. It was gut-wrenching. He felt hollow, as if the TRP wining had just torn out apart of him… or was it his power doing that? It was hard to tell at this point.

Hunter had no intentions of going to the hospital to get his wounds treated. What was the point? He healed faster then most but definitely slower then Harley. He found a clear doorway he could lean against as he eyes drifted not really concentrating on anything. “It’s not polite to stare… but i guess we’ve gone past the point of being polite anymore.”

He should have gone to look for his friends, for his brother, but honestly, Ian couldn’t bring himself to face them. How could he face them when things were so messed up? It was best if he stayed away, at least that’s what Ian thought, apparently life had another plan. 

As he walked towards his place he came across Hunter. His eyes on the man that looked to be hurt, which was surprising considering his power. That could only mean that he was seriously hurt. “Yeah, I have heard that and yes we are,” Ian said with a shrug. “You really need to go get that looked at.”

Victorious. That’s what TRP had been. It didn’t matter all the lives that had been lost. It didn’t matter all the tears that had been shed. It didn’t matter all those who had been injured and wanted no part of this chaos. No. None of that matter to their new governors. They wanted power and control: and they got it.

Rosalie wanted to get away from it all. The woman had always found a reason to be optimistic and hopeful during any situation but when defeat was staring at you right in the face-it was hard to ignore it. Feeling her throat and stomach tighten as well as her eyes growing blurry, Rosalie began to back away from all the distraction that had been around her and hadn’t paid attention to those she’d be bumping into or stepping on until she felt and heard them. “S-shit….I’m sorry….I’m so sorry…..” The woman managed to say but could hardly speak.

It wasn’t everyday that you would witness Clark using the training he’d been provided with, but Clark wasn’t himself right now. The Town Hall would be there’s, and then they would control the town. No one would stop him from doing what he needed to do, no one would get in his way. Those facts were unfortunate for the body at his feet. They’d put up a good fight, really, they had… But Clark fought well with a knife in his hand, given how small and fast he was. “Unless you want to be next, I suggest you stay out of my way, or help with what I’m trying to do here.”

There was a hunger in Ian, a hunger for freedom. Never had he wanted something as much as he wanted to get out of Lake Grimstone and it scared him. For so long he had called this place his home and now all he wanted was to bring the government down to its knees and get out of there. As he made his way to the town hall Ian made sure to set small fires to keep people entertained with them so that they didn’t try to stop him. Blue hues landed on Clark, he knew of the guy but didn’t really know him, “no need to worry because I’m not trying to stop you.” The flame in his hand got bigger and he threw it to a nearby structure. “I want out.” He said.

I hope that you’re right, that he didn’t hurt anyone. Doing something like that… it stays with you and messes you up in ways that you can’t even imagine.” While the person that Ian had hurt had deserved it, it had still effected Ian in a way that he couldn’t even begin to describe and he didn’t wish that on anyone. “I know the feeling all too well, It’s hard to keep your emotions out of it especially when things like this happen, but the more people like you that we can get in here the better off we will all be. As you can see from this mess, not everyone that is a guard is with the government.” Ian shrugged at Harley’s words, in all honesty after all the chaos that they caused he didn’t care if they were in solitary. “Where would you have put them? Talking to them is not an option, not right now at least.” 

“Because then they’re all in one place and easy to find.” Harley spoke, brow raised as he looked over the other. “Look, I’m on the right side here, I am, but it’s proving difficult right now. Just… They’re not going to be hurt, right? Neutralised doesn’t mean you’re going to hurt them?” That was all that Harley cared about - that Tristan wasn’t in some torture cell being goaded for information that he likely didn’t have. All the kid wanted was to be with his mom.

Ian let out a sigh and shook his head. “Do you really think that they would hurt them? Because if you think that then are you really on the right side? Neutralize means that they can’t get out and hurt anyone. We need to take them out of the equation in order to get control of this place.”

It was hard for Ian not to let his feelings get in the way of doing his job, but he knew that if he gave in to them that things could get worse. While it worried him that people he knew and cared about had been taken away, he knew it was for the best. Ian let out a sigh at the guy’s question and nodded, “they were taken to solitary. It’s the safest place for them.” He assured the guy. Another sigh passed his lips and Ian nodded completely understanding where Harley was coming from. “I know the felling, I know how hard it is to care about someone that chose them because they feel like this is the only way, but it isn’t. They made their choice and we have to make our own… the thing is they didn’t just mess with the government, they tried to hurt innocent people that call this place home.”

“Tristan didn’t hurt anyone.” Harley seemed adamant, but there was no way he could be sure about that. Tristan had said that he wouldn’t promise not to hurt people, and he knew first hand that Zane had. “I’m on the governments side, y’know? Always have been. I was once training because I wanted to be a guard but then I realised that I wouldn’t be able to keep my emotions out of it. I would protect this place with my life… but I can’t just let him sit in there. It’ll make him worse. It’ll make him angrier. It’s not smart to just keep them locked up in solitary! Are they all there?” The man glanced past Ian, in the general direction of where he knew solitary to be thanks to his exploration with Liam to try and find his mom.
