Take Me Out || Layla & Ian & Mia
Layla sat back and nodded, listening carefully, as Ian gave instructions. The game sounded vaguely familiar, though she didn’t think she had ever played it herself. Was it from a movie? She highly doubted that it would be in something she watched recently. Disney wouldn’t really attract much of a crowd if the princess and prince chose to alternate questions instead of defeating villains or going to the ball. Though she didn’t mean to get distracted, two kids shrieking as they played a game of tag caught the corner of her eye. The small blonde boy who was deemed as “it” had a lace loose on his right little red shoe. She involuntarily held her breath in fear that he would get injured. “That kid is going to fall” she said, mostly to herself, through gritted teeth. That was one thing Layla had gained over the past year -concern for others, however, it was a gift and curse all at once. While some were fond of her care, others found her as nosy or nagging. It even got her scolded on an occasion or two. She knew it was a habit she’d have to ease off of though, because no matter how hard you try, unfortunately, you can’t keep everyone from harm. Having got a little side-tracked, she turned her attention to Mia as she chewed curiously on her popsicle stick. That was the only little one she should ever be concerned about. She released a small sigh of relief as who she assumed was the child’s guardian came to the rescue before returning her eye contact to Ian.
Under the assumption that his last question counted for his turn, Layla ponder over what question she’d as first. Would she ask something simple such as favorites or would she risk it and just dive into the deeper questions like hopes and dreams? She certainly wouldn’t dare start with questions about the past because that was a touchy subject for most, herself included. Of course she was curious as to why he was at PITY in the first place. He always seemed like simply a sweet normal boy to her but if that were the the complete case,he wouldn’t be here. She always tried to keep in mind what Lucie had once saidnot everyone is here because they did something bad you know. Some of us just need a place to go. She knew he would tell her when he was ready. After a bit of debate, she chose the stay somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. “Alright, tell me Ian.” She absolutely loved saying a person’s name during a conversation, especially his. It made things feel more relaxed and comfortable. “If you could pick any day, what day would you relive?”
Ian looked up at the scene in front of them as he heard Layla's comment, not surprised at all by her concern for the little boy. She was more genuinely caring than anyone else he had ever met, especially when it came to children- and not just her own. He loved kids too, and he tried to treat people well, but he knew it could never compare to the love and compassion Layla has for others. He only turned back to the girl beside him after the child was safe from harm's way once again, smiling to himself at Layla's sigh of relief. He didn't mind the fact that she got distracted, since he wasn't taking this little game too seriously. This whole thing was just about having fun- that's all he wanted anymore, was just to enjoy himself. And he always did when he was with Layla. He liked her for more reasons than that, though. He doubted he'd be able to list them all, and that kind of scared him a little bit. Nothing about this thing - whatever it was, or whatever it was going to be - was simple, but it was going to be worth it. He just hoped he wasn't imagining the whole thing in his head, and she was feeling something between them, too.
Ian probably should have thought about some answers before he suggested the game, but he had just thought it up on the spot. Her question stumped him for a moment. "Hmm.. that's a good one. I've never really thought about that..." He paused for a moment to think it through. Something from his stay at PITY? Nah, the only good thing that had come out of this was meeting her, and that might be a little weird to say on a first date, even if they had been friends for a while. Something from his childhood? He didn't have a particularly good nor bad childhood, but nothing really stood out. He kind of had an average growing up, that was until he met them, but that definitely wasn't something he wanted to relive. "I guess.. I don't know. Probably something generic like when I got my first dog. There's not really much I'd want to relive though, I don't believe in living in the past. I'm trying to just focus on the future, you know?" Now for a question for her. This was a lot harder than he had anticipated. "And I suck at this game already." He said, with a laugh. "How about.. If we were allowed to have pets, any kind of pet, what would you want?" It was a dumb question, but he didn't want to ask anything too personal by mistake, or anything even more lame like favourite colour. He ruffled Mia's hair lightly as he watched her staring at everything around her. She was always so fascinated by everything, and that was one of the things he loved about children so much. Everything was new, and they always saw the best and most beautiful in everything.
