Translation notes

*   Some sort of wordplay here. The characters in the official lyrics are ココ which is in hiragana, instead of the katakana ここ. Both are pronounced ‘koko’ but the katakana simply means ‘here’ while hiragana would usually correspond to a foreign word or name. I am not sure what it’s alluding to… please weigh in if you know more.

**  The phrase ‘mukae ni kita’ implies coming back to someone who is waiting. At first, I had written this line as ‘I’m coming back for you now,’ but considering the context, the ‘you’ could be the speaker himself.

Summarized from Kaida’s listen-along stream on 2/17/24, starting around the 52-minute mark.

- The song starts with a sort of monologue about trying to ignore something that is following him. At the refrain, Kaida says he envisions a glass screen shattering on ‘nobashite’. The whole song gives him a mental image of really thin glass that breaks with the lightest touch.

- The feeling of the refrain is “like shedding your skin as a human being,” “like peeling away all the scabs/scars of old wounds.” A catharsis in finally exposing everything.

 -  ‘I can’t forgive, I want to be forgiven, but I can’t say it’ – The speaker can’t forgive this other party. He hates himself for not being able to forgive or speak to them properly. Therefore, he also wishes he could forgive himself. But he’s unable to say this out loud either.

 - So he has to start by saving himself; by looking in the mirror and forgiving himself. “That’s why ‘I’m coming back now’ is really important.”

 - The speaker says ‘My place is here’ while acknowledging his selfish, and maybe unsightly, feelings. “I know that I’m selfish. Will you comfort me anyway?”

 - ‘That’s wrong' (x5) is the speaker rejecting several ideas of what he should do / how he should be. He’s unsatisfied with all the versions of himself so far.

 - ‘And your share of it too’ means exactly what it says. Kaida tells his listeners during the stream that he would like to give voice to their unspoken, uncomfortable feelings too.

This song was pretty clearly in 1st person perspective, so I skipped my usual comment about implied pronouns.

In his free-chat stream on Oct. 31, Kaida explained that the concept for this song was about how we all feel disappointed at ourselves sometimes but have to keep moving forward despite it. (This is at about 47:48 to 48:33 in the archive.)

I hand-copied the lyrics from Apple Music to convert them to romaji, so there may be mistakes. Please let me know if you find any.
