I am a woman of color and I’m reminded of it every day of my life by the ignorance of many. I remember being younger and constantly asking my mom to straighten my hair, asking questions like why my skin wasn’t as light as everyone else’s and why I was built differently. I only went off of what the world was feeding me. In today’s society we create whatever the perfect image means to us and we feel obliged to meet that standard. I feel that we are contained and are becoming extremely closed-minded. Every single person that walks the face of this earth has been created equally and with purpose; therefore we have no right to devalue the person next to us because their beliefs or physical appearance isn’t equivalent to ours.
