Bent, not Broken « Finch and Ronin
Ronin flushed a little at the mention of it, clearing his throat. “I was fine after a few days.” Ronin murmured. “I haven’t had any more problems. I was just sore, initially. I’m not sure what the cause was, but I feel fine now.” Even if the soreness had been incredibly uncomfortable and embarrassing.
Finch nodded, as though he were processing the information. He wanted to get Ronin back down into his lab, and he needed to figure out how to do that. " The pain is gone, then? How about the bleeding?"

Roman chuckled. “Too true, Mr. Finchel. But I’m glad President Tobias has given me the opportunity to prove myself. I enjoy working with the Games very much, and am excited to continue my work for a while to come.” It was getting easier, lying to everyone. He felt like he was almost believing this alias himself.
Roman certainly seemed enthusiastic, Finch noted. It felt odd, though; this enthusiasm. Most people did not admit to enjoy helping children fight to the death so freely. But who was he to judge? "You've been doing good work, Mr. Aleander."

Jay nodded. “Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit me. It is always a pleasure to interact with men of such power and position, as yourself.” She smiled politely, but the glint of something more was still in her eye. As Finch left, she turned back to the arena before her and sent a large boulder sailing through the air and landing at the far wall. The conversation had left her a bit riled up, and she needed to take care of those emotions quickly. She didn’t have time for personal vendettas against the staff.
Finch gave the girl a small bow before walking out; he paused by the doorway though, looking back just in time to see her throw a fair-sized boulder at the wall. Oh yes; he was going to have a word with Alaric about Miss Bei Fong.

Roman looked over at Finch, somewhat surprised the man even cared enough to ask. “Me? Well I decided at a young age that I wanted to work for the president. I was enthralled by the Games as a child and wanted to have a hand in it. Leave my own mark on the Games, if you will. I worked my way up as quickly as possible and now, well, I’m glad to say that I’m one of the youngest men to have ever been employed in my current position. The President liked my ideas enough that he wanted me on his staff and so here I am.” It was the story he told everyone and was mostly true…with a few major details left out.
In all honesty, Finch didn't care; but he knew that he had a public image to maintain and he knew that he should at least be polite to the other public figures involved with the Games. And he liked to know as much as he could about people, in case they turned against him.
"Tobias is a change from his father," Finch commented casually, mostly to keep the conversation going. "Old Mr. Arathald most likely would have had you thrown out for your ideas."

She shrugged. “Probably. But that’s half the fun now, isn’t it?” She smiled at the man and turned away, striding back to her blindfold and bending to pick it up. “Was there anything else you wanted to discuss, sir?” she asked pleasantly, turning to face him as she wound the blindfold around her hand. “If not I would like to continue my training.”
Finch took a moment to answer, studying the girl carefully. She seemed fierce, that much was true; and she was protective of the ones she cared about certainly. Perhaps she would make a good addition to his lab. If she turned out not as entertaining... Well, he always needed subjects.
"Not at the moment, Miss Bei Fong. Thank you for your time."

Roman nodded. “Indeed. That does seem very logical.” There was something odd about Finch’s response. He seemed somewhat…smug? It might have been the ungainly snort from Finch, but something about his response seemed off to Roman. He let it go, however, and accepted Finch’s answer. He had to stop suspecting their was something insidious about the man with every strange comment he made. Finch could very well be a perfectly normal man.
Finch watched the young man from the corner of his eye, gauging if Roman believed him or not. He knew that he made the other man uncomfortable, and he supposed he should try to work on that. Aometimes it was just too entertaining to watch people squirm though. "What about you, Mr. Aleannder; how did you come to work for the president?"
Bent, not Broken « Finch and Ronin
Ronin was wary, his head cocked as he tried to size Finch up. He flexed his hands open and closed, licking his lips to wet them. The air around him was cooling the sweat on his skin, making him shiver slightly. His head was still pounding with a headache.
"Headaches." Ronin said carefully. "And the occasional bout of sickness. Though I’m getting better. I’ve put back on some of the weight I lost." Ronin didn’t know what to think of the concern Finch seemed to show. He had to tread carefully.
Finch nodded slowly; he knew that the headaches were being caused by the drug he had given the boy. And it was good that the boy was putting on weight once more. But there was something he left out.
"What about the pain?" Finch asked mildly, keeping an eye on Ronin carefully. "Last time you came to see me, you had pain and bleeding. Has that gotten better?"
Well lookie at what Tumblr thinks Finch should follow...
Bent, not Broken « Finch and Ronin
“No.” Ronin’s voice cracked like a whip, intense and every bit as authoritative as his Father. The boyish charm washed out of him in an instant, replaced instead by the man Tobias had raised. “I am a man grown. I do my duties. I supervise the games, or I have been this year at least. I’ve lost more weight in these past weeks than I would care to mention. I’ve found something that serves as a meditative practice and keeps me calm. Keeps me from being unhealthy like I was.”
Ronin shook his head, staring Finch down, unflinching. “I will not go back on tethalane. I refuse.”
Well, well, well. Finch was surprised by the boy's tone of voice, of the strength he could hear. He thought he had already broken the boy's spirit. This renewed strength was... a pleasant surprise to say the least. Perhaps he could get another opportunity to break the boy again.
"How are you feeling?" Finch said instead, changing the topic momentarily. "Are you still getting sick?"
