You can’t knock me down!
I have healing abilities.
The right thing is it’s own reward. But I still want the actual reward.
“Toph! You can’t change her diaper like that — !” (icecndcold)
“ Whaddya mean I can’t? I just did!” she huffed, backing away from the changing table to present a squirming baby Lin wrapped tightly in her cloth diaper.
So maybe she had metalbent some clips to keep the whole thing together, so what? It worked, didn’t it?
@icecndcold
“Toph.” Katara’s shoulders slumped forward just slightly, tugging where Tenzin was tied securely to her back in a sling, “The diaper is literally all pins, she can’t be comfortable...Not to mention I don’t think that diaper is going to catch anything when she inevitably dirties herself.”
Katara walked forward, reaching out for Lin and taking the poor thing under the arms, brinigng her back to the changing table. One hand still on the squirming baby, she reached back and took Toph’s wrist too, guiding her back to where the baby lay.
“Your basic idea wasn’t bad,” Katara said matter-of-factly, “I mean it’s much easier since you can bend metal to use it to help you wrap the diaper..But you should just use the two pins. If you stand in front of me I can show you how to wrap the cloth around her, andI’m sure you can take it from there.”

Over the years spending time with his friends from all over the world, and also foreign diplomats, alongside his time in exile, Zuko had grown quite the diverse palate. The pot of seaweed stew smelled delicious and had Zuko’s stomach was now rumbling.
He leaned over in the chair as Katara began to speak. “I’m never happy,” replies Zuko in jest before leaning onto his knees and resting his head in his hand. “That’s a perfectly reasonable thing to be upset about, Katara,” answers Zuko, dropping his teasing to talk to her.
He then stands up as she slumps to the floor, furrowing his own brows in concern as he walks over to her and then sits beside her, propping up his knee. “Hey, Katara, it’s going to be okay,” he encourages. “This might be a stupid question, but have you tried telling Aang how that makes you feel? Or why it would mean so much to you if you could come with him? Maybe you guys could talk it out?” suggests Zuko.
“Did he say how long he’s going to be gone for? I mean… I… would think it’s not long, he wouldn’t just go off for days without saying where… would he?” Zuko speaks. “Either way, he should be telling you– and seeing if you’d want to come. You’re a great spokeswoman, too. Whatever it is Aang’s doing, he’d be lucky to have you along. You’re the most eloquent person I know, truly,” he tells her. “Anyone would be lucky to have you alongside them… I mean… I’m sure Aang knows that. He loves you, Katara.”
‘Talk it out.’
All they ever do is talk.
Katara starts shucking the clams she’d collected from market that morning, discarding the tops of the shells one after the other and plopping the uncooked meat of the seafood into the stew with the rest of the ingredients. She sniffles, and gets a good whiff of the stew, her stomach grumbling loudly.
She spoons a mouthful onto her tongue under the ruse of taste testing to make certain it’s coming out alright.
“It’s more complicated than that,” she says after she swallows her mouthful of food, avoiding looking the Fire Lord in the eye. “It isn’t about love, or not love and it’s not about my eloquence. It’s – “
Katara buries her face in her hands momentarily, taking a shaking, steadying, breath.
“We had…a really big fight, okay? I don’t…I don’t really know where it leaves us.” Katara’s eyes sting, and for a moment she’s confused about it before she realizes that she’s starting to cry.
She reaches up quickly and wipes at her eyes, clearing her throat.
“He didn’t say where he was going, and I don’t know if I’ll ever see him again.” Her voice turns brittle despite her best efforts.

Zuko stands up quickly as Katara buries her face in her hands and he puts his hands out in front of him, wanting to help somehow. “Hey, Katara, I–” Zuko begins to speak, but as soon as he does, Katara is beginning to cry and Zuko’s face falls in worry. It hurts him to see her cry.
“Katara…” whispers Zuko, “I’m sorry, hey–” Zuko adds, pursing his lips as his eyebrow scrunches in concern. “That’s not okay, at all,” he tells her, shaking his head. “But, he’ll come back, he will,” Zuko tries to reassure her. There are a lot of things he wants to say, but doesn’t know what would be an overstep of boundaries. He doesn’t know if he’d be all right to say what he’s thinking, that anyone who’d leave her had to be the stupidest son of a bitch alive on this planet.
Likewise, he wants to comfort her, but he doesn’t want to do anything that would upset his friend even more. “Katara, hey… it’s going to be okay, it will,” he reassures her, frowning further, “Is it… is it okay if I hug you?”
Sniffling, Katara considers Zuko’s question for little more than a moment before she’s stood unsteadily up on her feet. She throws her arms around him, burying her face in his chest.
She wouldn’t usually do this with Zuko, but he’s the best shoulder to cry on for the moment...Even if he is pretty horribly awkward in these sorts of situations usually.
“Sorry,” she says into his winter robes, voice muffled, “I didn’t — mean to burden you with this. You’re visiting us for vacation and I know it’s sort of...a downer.”

“ just stop it. ” (icecndcold)
“I’m sorry,” apologizes Zuko, sitting back in the sofa as he leaves his tea on the coffee-table before them. He lets his gaze flutter from hers across from him and sighs, “I didn’t mean to prod. I’m just worried… you have hardly said a thing since I arrived in the South.”
“Yeah well,” Katara turns back to the fire, stirring the pot of seaweed stew she’s been working on since the early afternoon, “there isn’t much to say.”
She sighs heavily, rubbing the back of her neck with a hand that’s clammy from the steam of the pot. Leaning back against her heels where she’s crouched, Katara screws up her mouth.
Zuko’s not your enemy, she reminds herself, he’s your friend, and he just wants to help.
“Aang – left. Without really saying goodbye.” They’re in their early twenties now, and it feels almost childish to be so mad over something that she should be used to by this point, “I wanted to go with him but he spouted some mumbo jumbo about ‘Avatar stuff’ and then just flew off with Appa. There, are you happy now?”
Katara leaves out the part where they’d argued. The part where it felt like they’d broken up with each other and hadn’t seen eye to eye even a little for the first time since the end of the war. She bites her bottom lip and frowns at the bubbling stew in front of her, arms crossed over her knees to hug them against her chest.

“listen, asshole. i’m gonna carry you home whether you like it or not. you’re not in any condition to get there yourself.”
Who was he ? Some kind of weak twig broken in half after being looked at funny ? No , he was a warrior and strong and he should stand up right now . “I’m fine.” His legs didn’t cooperate and he fell back on his bum again , worsening the pain in his lower back each time he tried pushing himself off the ground .
“I’m too heavy . Can’t you just use your funny water magic?” Instead of accepting Katara’s help, he insisted on staying down until he was fine . He felt a cold sensation on his chin when a gust of wind hit his face . Reaching up to find the source his rough and dirty fingertips touched a small scrape . Sokka hissed . “Ugh , just leave me here.”
Katara tipped her face up toward the sky, hands braced against her hips. “Tui and La,” she swore before turning her face back toward her stubborn ass of a brother. She tapped a foot.
“That’s obviously what Appa’s for?” She gestured meaningfully at the bison, giving her brother a look that said just how much she thought of his proverbial intelligence for the moment, “I just need you to get on my back so that I can carry you onto the big fluffy bison, and then we can go home!”
And find out where Aang had disappeared to. More than anything she was worried about that...And Sokka’s head and back injury, of course.
“I promise I won’t tell Toph or Suki so you won’t look like a giant moron when we get back to civilization.”
