Shows on Netflix with Japanese audio or subtitles
(Last updated: 9th March 2016)
Netflix made a push into the Japanese market recently, and as a result you can find some programs on Netflix that had been subtitled or dubbed into Japanese. You can find these in other regions besides Japan as well.
Besides the obvious candidates for being in Japanese such as Japanese films or anime (though not all of those feature the Japanese audio), Netflix’s original programming also tends to feature Japanese audio/subtitles. If you search ‘Netflix’ on the site or app, it seems to bring up at least most of their original programming.
The subtitles don’t match the dub audio exactly, in my experience. But it can give you a hint sometimes, or just be used to pick up new words on their own. So if there’s a Netflix Original you like and you’re studying Japanese, you might want to check those out. (Also applies to other languages such a French, Spanish, etc.)
‘CC [closed caption] subtitles’ should be exact, although I haven’t check it completely yet and I have so far only seen them for three four titles (Atelier, Little Witch Academia, Little Witch Academia: The Enchanted Parade, Good Morning Call).
Here’s a list of titles that I’ve checked out myself. This is based on the UK Netflix, so if feel free to suggest others for different regions. It’s intended to be as complete as possible, so there’s no accounting for taste or quality. It could also use better organisation, but maybe later.

After checking a few of these again, the options for Japanese subtitles and audio on titles not originally produced in Japan seems to have disappeared. I don’t know whether this is temporary, a result of the move into the Japanese market (removing the Japanese options to prevent people simply subscribing to another region’s service where the monthly cost might work out cheaper), or just something that affects the UK service. But still, that’s disappointing because I never got around to watching most of them.
An episode of the NHK show “Heart Net TV” about a man who spent 40 years in psychiatric hospital, and his life after returning to society.
Includes full Japanese captions.
An episode of the NHK show “Heart Net TV” about people with psychological disorders and how they have been treated by Japanese society since WWII.
Includes full Japanese captions.

この世界を創ったのは私だ。お前には止められない (この・せかい・を・つくった・の・は・わたし・だ。おまえ・に・は・とめられない)
I am the one who created this world. You cannot stop me ([I] cannot be stopped by you).
巻き込まれて気の毒だが、いずれにせよ、私の…望むように動いてもらう (まきこまれて・きのどく・だ・が、いずれにせよ、わたし・の…のぞむ・ように・うごいて・もらう)
It's a pity you have gotten involved, but either way, I will have you act as I wish.
何をさせられるか知っても生きていけるかな? (なに・を・させられる・か・しって・も・いきて・いける・か・な?)
Will you be able to live on even if you know what you will be made to do?
