Chazuke - The First Shop

The look of confusion on Chuuya’s face should have tipped him off the moment he spoke the word ‘Chazuke’. In his mind, he couldn’t believe someone as well rounded and awe-inspiring could have not ever tasted something so… heavenly. Even more so since it was a dish many places offer.

The redhead’s only explanation to his lack of tasting Chazuke is the fact that he never has the time, nor the knowledge, to try the dish and that was when Atsushi knew what they were going to do for the day.

Grabbing onto Chuuya’s hand, he proclaimed that he would bring Chuuya around to all the different places in the city to try all the different types of Chazuke and the first stop will be…

A soft ring as they opened the shop’s door. The small was neither too quiet nor too boisterous, it was a quaint little place which Atsushi knew the redhead enjoy. They took a seat at the back, speaking softly as Atsushi explained what Chazuke is and how to order.

“It’s a very simple dish,” he began. “Made by pouring tea over cooked rice. You can add different toppings on the dish as well…”

Then he began to ramble on, “Japanese pickles, umeboshi, seaweed, furikake, sesame seeds, salted and marinated pollock roe, salted salmon, pickled seafood, scallions and wasabi.”

Only at the end of it did Atsushi realize Chuuya was staring at him and immediately, he felt awkward, opening his mouth to apologize as his face flushed red. However, before he could say anything, Chuuya immediately began to laugh, patting the boy’s head before saying,

“Aha, you’re such a good kid. You know what? My treat, order whatever you want, Atsushi.“

Atsushi’s eyes widen in surprise before he ducked his head down and exhaled,

“Thank you so much, Chuuya-san.”

Why do you ship chuuatsu? :O

That’s the beauty of crackshipping.

But really, they just look cute together. Ever noticed those ships consisting of a character who’s this little ball of anger with their cute, shy and tall partner? Chuuya and Atsushi fit that kind of ship and it’s appealing to some of us.

AUs where Atsushi joins the Port Mafia instead of the ADA have also been a big influence to like it. A relationship between them in canon (whether platonically or romantically) wouldn’t be easy since they come from opposing sides but it’s still interesting to imagine how it could happen. We have a lot of time to think about what their interactions will be like anyway, since they’ve yet to meet in the manga and that doesn’t seem to be happening any time sooner. BSD Wan and mobile games where BSD characters have appeared aren’t something that I’d count as canon material, though it’s nice to see they do know each other somewhere else at least.

Speaking of BSD Wan, chapter 15 had this adorable moment after Atsushi caught Chuuya being a good person by helping an ‘old woman’ carry a heavy baggage:

Too bad Chuuya the tsundere didn’t like being seen like that.
