– Mr. Jihun Choi, R&D Director –
Wonwoo fixes his tie as he walks into Mr. Choi’s office. It’s spacious—far bigger than the cubicle he’s used to. Right in front of the door, Mr. Choi sorts through a mountain of files piled higher than his balding head. Wonwoo approaches the desk gingerly. Without looking up, Mr. Choi shoves a thick file into his chest.
“Take this report to Ms. Y/N Y/L/N from Accounting and make sure the budget is accurate. Something in these numbers doesn’t seem right. I need this done ASAP.”
“Yes, sir.” Wonwoo takes the thick stack of papers, smiling shyly at the thought of visiting The Y/N Y/L/N as he heads towards the elevator to the Accounting Department.
Y/N was the Accounting Lead for SVT LLC. The youngest and most charming of the Accounting Department and almost the entire company, her beauty turns heads whenever near while her cold and stoic nature shuts out those who approach. The ace of the company Y/N began working at SVT a few years ago with a brand new degree and impressive resume, she continues to work tirelessly promotion after promotion.
– Accounting Department –
In her office, Y/N fidgeted with the ring on her finger while scanning last month’s statements. Revenue had been disappearing over the months—not enough to raise alarms, but far beyond the department’s usual costs.
“I’m here for a budget review for the R&D Department,” someone said in the distance. Of course, that request would be coming to me.
“Certainly. Go ahead and see Ms. Y/L/N. She’s at the desk all the way down the hallway and to the right,” a coworker replied.
Y/N sighed and quickly straightened her corner of the department, then returned to work while she waited. A few minutes passed—odd, given how small Accounting was. Finally, she stood and glanced around the partition wall. As soon as she peeked around the corner, a man nearly collided with her. He flinched back, startled.
“Sorry. I’m Y/N. I was worried you got lost,” she said, sitting back down and returning her attention to the screens.
The man froze in place. When she glanced up, his expression was caught between shock and nervousness. Behind his frames, his cold eyes carried a flicker of warmth—and hesitation. His hair was neatly combed to the side, a few strands slipping loose across his forehead. His crisp white button-down draped across broad shoulders.
It’s her. She’s prettier than I remember…
After a moment, he took a breath, stepped closer, and set a thick pile of papers on her desk without a word. She glanced at the papers, then at him, then back again, waiting.
“…Can I help you?” she asked, confused by his silence.
He stared blankly until she cleared her throat, snapping him back to reality.
“Oh—uhh… yes. You can help me.”
Y/N chuckled softly at his awkward response, flipping through the file. It was an analysis report she had prepared last month. As she skimmed, he finally spoke.
“My name is Wonwoo… I’m from R&D. Mr. Choi asked if you could review these numbers again. He thinks there’s an error.” He fiddled nervously with his cuff button.
“Sure. I can review it one more time—but my numbers are never wrong.” Her tone was sharp. “When do you need the results?”
“Right away.”
Her face dropped.
“You’re not serious.” She flipped through the stack more quickly. “Fine. Pull up a seat next to me—I’ll need you to explain some of these charges.”
Wonwoo grabbed a spare chair and settled just a couple of feet away behind her desk. As she ran through the files, she could feel his glances burning at the edge of her focus, disappearing once she looked back at him. They continued to work through the numbers for an hour or so.
– Wonwoo’s POV (3 years ago) –
The first time I met Y/N was when I first started interning at SVT LLC. years ago. At the time, I was this skinny bag of bones unsure of whether or not I even tied his shoelaces. As I walked in towards the entrance gates, I tripped just before I could scan my ID landing face first on the floor. Looking back at what caused me to trip, my eyes landed on my own two feet. Of course I forgot to tie my shoes.
“Are you okay?” A monotone voice asked as a pair of heels stood behind my feet. My eyes traced up her perfectly ironed slacks and blouse to see a beautiful pair of E/C eyes peering down at me emotionlessly. My eyes darted to her ID badge hung around her neck. Y/N Y/L/N. Accounting Manager.
“Hellooo?” Y/N asked again, waiting for me to answer.
“Y-yeah, I’m okay.”
“Can you get up?” Realizing I’m still on the floor, I scramble to my feet before bowing towards her.
“Thank you very much for checking on me. My name is Je-” I look up to find her gone. Looking around, I see the back of her head as she walks towards the elevators. I haven't spoken to her since.
– Present Day –
Looking around her desk, I noticed the cute charms and figurines that added a personality to the space – one that she didn’t show. My eye caught a certain figurine from a collection I was at least aware of.
“Is that a Dimoo figurine?” I ask pointing at it. Her eyes glance at the figurine, lingering for a moment and the smallest hint of smile appears on her face before her eyes go back to her reports.
“Yeah, it is. Are you interested in the collection?” No.
“Yeah, a little.” Please don’t ask a follow up question.
“Oh really, which one?” Damn it.
“That one actually. You have my favorite figurine from the line.” Y/N turns her head in surprise and fully looks at me for the first time. God, she’s beautiful.
“Do you have it?” She asks quizzically.
“No, not yet…” She grabs the figurine and holds it out to me.
“Take it.” Her voice is monotone but I can see a sparkle in her eyes. I have never seen her this enthusiastic about something before. I grab the figurine from her hand, lingering for a bit as my hand touches hers. Her hand is warm,.. and it’s gone. I wish I could hold it forever.
