If I had a penny for every Spec Evo project on youtube I've seen that designed a primitive alien with a really cool alternative digestive structure and then turned around and ignored it in favour of a generic mid-body stomach, I'd have two pence

Why are they doing that?

unfortunately, a complete digestive tract is the most efficient way for a complex, multicellular organism to gain energy. being in the mid-body provides the most protection and minimizes damage to the system, so thats usually where it ends up. youd need a completely different system of nutrition gain (without digestion) to not come to the end result of a mid-body stomach.

Sure, it's a simpler form of digestive structure, but it still shows that organisms can survive with less centralised stomachs
