the librarian of a world that is, quite literally, just a library with no concept of time. (she has never been outside)

she has had only two people to talk to in her whole life. one of them hated her guts and disappeared while the other one was her only friend who came and went. her social skills can be a bit funny.

do you like books? here's someone who also does... except it's not a normal amount because she has done nothing but read her whole life. she's literally dreamt about going to high school. that's how bad it is for her in there.

women will see people and go "is anyone going to psychologically analyze their thoughts and actions?" and not wait for an answer

sometimes she'll randomly say how feels like she wants to hurt you. completely unprompted. don't worry about it. that's normal. she's fine, ok? she's having a #girl moment. she's so normal.

a smirk grows on handsome features, as eyes catch a glimpse of a girl. to him, she really isn't anything special. sylvain has dated, and flirted with, many different people throughout his lifetime. unusual, maybe, is the right word that he would use. on account of the complete lack of colour she seemed to have, from skin to hair he couldn't gleam a single hue - save for monochrome.

perfect opportunity though, right? " hey, you're looking pretty grey today girl... good thing you ran into me. i can bring some colour to that world of yours, maybe even get you to brighten up with a smile! "

Es had hoped to spend a peaceful day out. Exploring the Spirale to find the best spots to read is what she had planned, and yet she finds herself stopped by a stranger. There's something about the look in his eyes, the posture he holds, and the orange of his hair that makes the librarian... irritated. It's not hard for her to feel this way, no, but the only thing that's ever made her feel this way was the Facade. She grimaces.

"Is that right?" Thanks to what little self-restraint she has, she's not going to jump to being overly violent... yet. "I'd be much happier if you left me alone."

The world truly gives its hardest challenges to its bravest residents.

It's not a bad day. The temperature is nice, the sky is clear, and when he's not smoking the air is actually fresh and clean. He's still getting used to more mild temperatures as opposed to the constant, relentless heat of twin suns beating down on a desert planet. So he's outside just for the sake of being outside, and also because he hates being cramped up in one building for too long at a time, and he's walking. People still give him a wide berth most times, probably because he's huge and because half the time he's carrying around that wooden cross.

Man, he kind of misses the Punisher despite every fuckin' thing it symbolizes. The weight of the wood is nothing like the weight of his gun on his back.

He almost walks directly into the weird little freak that stops right in front of him and he only notices them because they try talking to him. Wolfwood grunts, coming to a sudden stop and snapping his head down to look at her.

"Why am I—"

Wolfwood gawks at her, blinking rapidly behind his sunglasses. Why is he Catholic? Is he Catholic? He doesn't even remember if they were raised under any specific denomination. Hell, he's not even legally ordained.

"—What the hell kinda question is that?! Outta my way!!"

The rough type of individual, Es muses. From those words alone does she have a fair grasp on the type of person he is and it does nothing but make her all the more curious of the man before her. Out of his way? Where would his way be? What is his way of life? Her gray gaze does nothing but stay on him, unblinking, analyzing him as much as she can. This man is nearly as interesting as her beloved wanderer... and thus, the librarian doesn't move.

"It's an honest question," Es retorts. "Given how you're resistant to answering, however, you must not have a good answer." Her words are cold and to the point as she tries to make sense of a stranger bearing a cross. Is it possible that there's no reason for it? Or a it was a costume from a party that he's coming home late from? Or maybe...

A fist taps against her other hand's open palm. "Is it because you have a burden which you bear like a cross? Similar to the original cross bearer, you've martyred yourself... so you continue to carry it with you until the end of time." Es tilts her head. "There's also some things to be said about how the cross used to be a symbol of a cruel death. Is this a fate that you think you're destined for?"

"...Hm." She's finally starting to wonder why she's not back and awake in her library.

Oh dear. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Could this truly be happening? Could this darling, fluffy creature really be laying around and taking in the sun near them? Es could hardly contain their emotions! ...And as such, those emotions manifest into so much excitement that they're scared to reach out and pet her. Every time they'd gotten close to petting a cat would be when Es woke up. Cats in her dreams usually didn't like her, either. Is there a point in trying this time? A particularly pathetic and long sigh comes from the librarian.

At least they can sit down and read near the delightful creature. Opening their picture book for what feels like the thousandth time, they do exactly that.

"It's said that, scientifically, pink is a relaxing color." Without warning and without greeting, Es makes a comment on the stranger's appearance as she's passing by. She finds his appearance interesting— pink hair wasn't a common hair color after all, let alone a common natural hair color. She'd read books that would mention what was genetically possible, after all. Maybe her dream had conjured more interesting people than she'd expected? Usually, though, they were more grounded in reality...

"Pink is a color that symbolizes love and passion," remarks the woman in front of him. "Would you consider yourself a loving or passionate person?"

"You talk too damn much. Can't even say 'fuck' like a normal person."

"Please die and go to hell."

"Oh, yes, because I'm so afraid of what you could do. Oh, I'm shivering in my boots. Of course, sir. Of course I will f*ck off because you told me to. Would you like to order me to do anything else? Do you want me to get you a warm glass of milk? Perhaps a pacifier, considering how much of a baby you're being?"

"Honestly... You must think being commanding and tall means that your attempts at intimidation will work, but you're nothing more than an annoying piece of sh*t. I wish I could tear your f*cking spine out."

"And you had to answer? You had to? You had to answer? You were so violently compelled to answer a question on that topic? Have you thought that, perhaps, this is a you issue and you had the choice of not answering? Did you know that? To blame the asker for your answer is wrong. You made the decision to say it. This was your choice. You may not have started it, but you have perpetuated it."

Meursault would quickly begin wandering the city aimlessly upon his arrival. He longed to return to the clutches of routine, yet he found himself stuck adrift for one of the first times in his life. It's almost aggravating, really- but he needs to acquaintance himself with the place before he looks for anything concrete.

Books are a good source of information- about the world they're in and the traditions they partake in- is what first comes to mind once he sees Es and their book. Meursault is quick to approach, standing right in front of them without so much as a hello.

"You have a book." He'd state, eyes trained on the book portraying a rather large, red dog- then right at their features. "What is it about?"

Es sits quietly on the ground, turning page after page of the provided picture book. It captures their attention quite well— a large canine that's rouge in hue, a picture book which teaches a beautiful message. The ambience of the city along with the lighting being different than what they're used to makes this experience new. New enough, in fact, that it takes the woman a good few seconds to realize a question was directed at them from a new character in their dream. They take notice of the shoes, then the rest of the individual as they direct their head upwards.

What a tall man, they muse. Like the giant of a fairytale.

Making a mental note of the page they've stopped on, Es closes the book and holds it up to the stranger. They do not ask who he is, no— that wasn't important to them. Instead, they answer plainly.

"It's an intriguing children's story," Their gaze is flat, their eyes giving him a once-over before continuing. "I hadn't read this one until today, so I'm thankful that I was given it. It's the story of a girl who owns a comically large dog." A faint smile is brief upon their face. It leaves as quickly as it came.

"The girl tells the reader how her dog acts. He acts no different than other dogs—" And then their words stop abruptly, realizing rather quickly that they don't actually need to explain. Es holds the book up to him. "You're free to read it yourself if you want. It's not long and I'm not a fan of giving spoilers."

Sou was like a ghost, wandering through a cleanly split fog of existence. For the moment, he could almost swear he was Shin again, weighing two cans of soup in his hand and mentally calculating how much he could live on, how much currency he could spare. It was a part of mundane life he barely could believe was happening. He was a definitely a ghost in his own body. In the Death Game, his meals were full of splendor. Wasteful final suppers that no one had the appetite to pick at, let alone he and his distaste for turkey. He shivered. With nourishment, he might have survived his hasty execution longer.

"O-Oh... my bad. I'm in your way, huh...?" Geez. He needed to pay more heed to the people around him. Sou pushes his shopping cart aside with a trembling arm and fixes a smile on his face.

Es had truly never been to a store before. She'd read about it in books, seen it in picture books, told about it in brief stories regaled to her by her precious wanderer... This dream of hers was spoiling her, showing her a life she's never had the chance to live. The lineup of different soups and canned goods rest upon the shelves and she truly didn't know what to make of it, walking along the aisle without paying attention to where she'd been going—

The cart is a surprise, having briefly stumbled into it. She's unfazed despite this incident. If anything did happen, she certainly wasn't sure if she'd wake up, but that wouldn't matter. She couldn't have left her world. Giving the individual a once over, she takes a few steps to the side as he similarly moved out of her way.

"Don't worry," comes her dull response. She doesn't seem to be accompanied by any basket or cart herself... The thought of buying hadn't even crossed her mind. Rather— "I'm only window shopping."

While her gaze appears disinterested, she walks closer to him, curious despite her expression. Why is he trembling? And the scarf... Es can't help but stare, unblinking.

"Are you cold?" Frankly, she doesn't know what cold feels like, but this is an educated enough guess given all she knows. "Stores usually have hand warmers in stock." That's what she assumes at least. From what she knows, it'd be weird not to have them. This is a world of her own creation after all. Right?

Their mouth hangs open, eyes wide unlike usual, visibly stunned by the creature standing before them. Glossy fur and sharp teeth are accentuated by glowing yellow eyes. Slits run through them to indicate that this beast was a predator— a being that shouldn't be messed with. Unfortunately, at the same time, Es has been captured in its grasp... They have become its prey.

By the mercy of whatever higher being is out there, someone else has approached the fiend, the woman reaching out to face the fiend. Es can't help but curiously approach her.

"Is this your cat?"
