keeping up with the kyos.
idseokyung:
“Nightmare’s Areum!” his tone wasn’t too loud, because he wasn’t quite like that, but there was obvious excitement in his voice, partially because he didn’t want to sound boring (ever) and because he was legitimately excited to have her on his show, “Well, you know her like that; because to me? She’ll always be my baby sister, Areum.”
a laugh bubbled up in her throat when seokyung started his youtube introduction. she kept quiet though, not wanting to disrupt the filming. it was funny to see him this way. areum didn’t actually watch his youtube channel. she preferred to learn what was going on in his life directly from him. plus, it was strange seeing him play a character still under the name of seokyung. but, it was what they all had to do. he was no different, even if he was far more famous then she’d ever be. that only meant he had to pretend even more. they all knew that nothing was forever in this industry.
before she knew it, he was introducing her. a smile was plastered to her face, one she had spent time practicing in the mirror back at the dorms. something soft that still relayed excitement and gratitude. a smile perfectly curated for the fans. “hello!” she greeted the future viewers, waving slightly. rather than rolling her eyes like she wanted to when he called her his baby sister, she nudged him slightly and addressed the camera again. “being nine years younger than you doesn’t make me a baby. it makes you an old man,” she teased. he was right, it was already easier with him around. in a bigger group, when she was appearing with the other members of nightmare, it was easy to pass off the funny comments and jokes to the other members. nearly all of them were hungry for their time in the spotlight and she was happy to give it to them. but right now it was just the two of them, and she knew she had to make some kind of impression. she was trying to help her group after all, not tank it completely.
she linked her arm through her brother’s free one and leaned against him slightly. it was a move she used with the girls in her group, a move that gave the fans a little something without areum having to say anything. but today she would push herself; she would speak up more. she needed the practice anyways. “we’re going shopping and my brother will pay for me too because,” she paused and whispered to the camera, “he makes more money than me.” it was a joke, of course, and that was evident by the grin on her features. and while it was true that seokyung was actually making money in a successful group and areum was floundering in a niche girl group, she wasn’t broke. she kept in contact with their mom which gave her access to a nearly unlimited bank account. she couldn’t afford to cut out their parents like he could. and she wasn’t sure she would if she could.
