Zen was surprised by her words at first. Eyes wide and head tilted as he listened. Laughing as she told him he was doing great. A soft smile graced his features as he stared at her for a moment.

He kept his mouth there for a moment. His flaws often bothered him and hearing that Jaehee accepted him and thought he was doing good made him happy.

She gave him a weak smile before returning to twirling her straw around inside her drink. Why was she attempting to explain things to Zen of all people? It was plain to see that he wasn’t willing to face the harsh realities of this world. Wasn’t that why he wrapped himself so tightly in a false sense of confidence? Wasn’t that why he wished to be an actor in the first place? Act anyway you wish. Leave the truth of the world behind.  “Hmm? Are you saying that you’ve found what you’ve been seeking?”, she’d ignore the comment about her own ending. After everything that she had done to everyone around her, happiness was something to forever be outside of her reach. It was the bitter truth she needed to face. Zen is silent. Fists clenching as he stares at her drink. He didn’t want to look at her at all. There were a lot of things on his mind that Zen did not have the heart to blurt out. Perhaps the fact he wished to keep up the act of being a gentleman. He was SEETHING. 

❝I haven’t.... but that doesn’t mean I should stop looking....❞ He hated how observant she was. Like she knew him inside and out. It wasn’t that he believed he would ever find a happy ending for himself, but he didn’t believe in the HARSH fact that NO ONE could find a happy ending. It was a hopeless thought. He wanted HOPE so he believed that it

That man really knew how to get under his skin without meaning to. ❝ Probably because Jumin has you worked to the bone…❞ It still showed his agitation toward the man, but he wasn’t ungentlemanly enough to curse in front of her. He could and would have called Jumin Han MUCH worse things. He would imagine day in and day out of constantly working for the corporate heir would tire her down a considerable amount. ❝You need a vacation some time soon, before you get TOO used to things like this.❞

H E A D C A N O N: Albinism in korea

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, since I have seen a couple videos from a show called “Hello Counselor” on albinism in Korea. Considering the abuse Zen got from his parents, he also probably received some from strangers on the street. People pointing at him wondering if he was real or a “doll” as some people like to refer to children with Albinism because if their fair and white complexion. Some people even going so far as to take pictures without anyone’s permission. Joking asking how old he really was, saying he looked like an old man. Some people not even referring to him as a person. Often calling others over and saying “Come look at this thing.” 

Kids his age at school often asking him if he was even korean. Or what was wrong with his skin and hair. Teasing and asking him if he bleached his hair. Asking about his family at that point, and having to say that his parents were full korean and that he wasn’t a foreigner. He never really had any close friends. Often heart-broken when he found out some kids just tried to be his friend over a bet. 

While the families in Hello Counselor fought this by telling the children they were beautiful, Zen had the opposite. His family told him he was ugly which resulted in his low self-esteem. Which is why now he boasts about being handsome, as a way to convince himself that he is handsome.

H E A D C A N O N: White knight complex

It is proven through out the game that Zen would worry and advise the MC through out the game no matter what route you take. He tries his best to be a gentleman, refraining from making dirty jokes and saying that a woman shouldn’t be left alone with a man. (ie the many times MC has had to stay alone with other characters) He doesn’t even trust himself when the MC is alone with him during his own route. 

A part of this is a bit sexist, and I will admit that he can be. However, he has good intentions. I believe he would come to anyone’s aid should he have the opportunity. Growing up with his looks, he gained criticism/just plain abuse from others. No one was there to help him. So I think this is his way to  help others. He knows what it feels like to be helpless and doesn’t want others to feel how he used to. He is willing to drop anything for his friends and come to their aid, should it seem necessary. There are doubts that should Saeyoung or Jumin (should he ever ask) want his assistance, Zen would hesitate. One being a prankster and the other being someone he genuinely despises. 

As an Actor, he can play this person who saves people. A part of him hopes that his work can save people in a way that the act has saved him. Acting is his life and it is an escape from all the horrible things he had experienced as a child.
