Recorded 23 September 2016 @Bunkern Göteborg by Barrie James Sutcliffe www.youaredissolved.com All tracks are live improvisations. Mårten and I set up dual drum kits, face-to-face while Barrie set up dual overhead mics and a placed a central microphone between us... and so we began playing. This document is the entire session, with no edits or post-production of any kind. The mastering process involved mixing down stereo overheads with the centre-channel recording, followed by basic track-normalisation.creditsreleased October 15, 2016 Mårten Magnefors - drums & percussion right channel Lee Noyes - drums & percussion left channel

Flying Nun is in partnership with Mike Sniper Corp™. Xpressway has been out of commission for 20+ years. Most labels are only interested in reissuing NZ obscurities from the 80s, or releasing Chills “Live” 15xLP box sets. So where does this all leave the current state of New Zealand music? Well, over the last five years—thanks to labels like Melted Ice Cream, Muzai, Stabbiesetc, Fishrider, and a plethora of self-releases— their scene has reestablished itself, and done so without playing into the easy nostalgia of past glory. So here’s a three volume set that should give you a clear idea of how lively the country is right now. Aside from your occasional Axemen/Mad Scene (Brian Turner is a member! False NZ!)/Futurians/Pumice/Bill Direen track, these comps feature mostly artists who’ve come about in the last half decade.
(H/t guy who wrote that NZ scene report for Termbo a while back, Melted Ice Cream and their artist’s Bandcamp recommendations, and Ducklingmonster’s spot-on tumblr recs)

CRAIG’S STROKE Lee Noyes – no-input mixer Lance Austin Olsen – voice & objects catalogue IN025 48:34 minutes One day, my friend Craig had a stroke; he was in his mid 40’s. I wrote in my book – Craig’s stroke – there it was, everything I knew, all jumbled together, just like Craig’s mind. I never saw Craig again, but I continued my notations, and always felt that this was now a document of Craig’s difficult and unplanned journey. A few years ago I attempted to translate the concept into a triptych, or three movement work. I placed all kinds of marks and notations on three sheets of paper. Eventually, more and more, these marks were painted out as I became acutely aware of the loss of reasoning because of the trauma to the brain. I painted everything black and, except for the few marks and notations that remained, nothing could be seen inside the blackness, everything was still there in the work, but it could no longer be seen or reached. I sent the work to Lee Noyes, and what he returned to me was perfect, but it needed a physical presence, how was I to do that? I spent a few nights sitting in my creaky studio chair trying not to move or say anything, wearing headphones, and recording my unconscious reactions to Lee’s realization of the score. Finally, there it was, the presence. Lance Austin Olsen, 2014 purchase: http://infrequency.org/?p=643
Sheriff & the Revels
— Shombolar
Just: ¿what the? This *best ever* song, from 1958, was on a Lux & Ivy’s favourites CD, and this is what someone else – Peter Stampfel in Perfect Sound Forever online music magazine – has to say about it (read on, including the crazed lyrics, here):
That, he explained, was “Shombolar,” by Sheriff and the Ravels, recorded in Brooklyn in December of 1958, and released on the VeeJay label. The track was on a four CD box set of VeeJay recordings that Rhino Records had just put out. Later research determined the song was written by Ravels singer Elmore Sheriff and Aki Aleong, a half-Chinese man from Trinidad, in 1955. The song was based on an Africa work song.

This is a huge collection of vintage drum kits. These have been gathered together and are available on one single DVD. There are 214 machines that have been sampled and many of the more popular machines have multiple kits due to being recorded with various sources and are recorded with different equipment, on different settings. These samples were gathered over an extensive length of time from various sources and are all available online in the Public Domain. Rather than seek out all the individual kits, all of them are available here in whats probably the largest collection of Vintage Drum samples.
