12:51 is the time my voice found the words I sought.
(Andrew WK and me.)
kid-idiosyncratic
Watching from the back seats of moving vehicles as a child, I used to swear the moon was following behind to keep me company. Had you asked me then what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would not have hesitated to yell “A flower!” The answer was always so simple before discovering the limitations of reality. My life is a love letter of sorts to that innocence and to the amalgam of memories seemingly lost in time. When that child begins to fade and you watch the world slowly stop loving you, there's a silent implosion within that you never quite recover from.
More memories I dug up for my mother, as seen through her own mothers eyes. Shot on 8mm in Queens NY throughout the 70s.
To my mum, Laura, and also to my aunts Ada, Carmen, and Clara. Using 8mm footage shot by your own mother, I made this for you.
Last Remaining Footage of a Ghost.
Filmed and edited by Ash Miller, music ("goodnight jade") by Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher.
"...a feeling you can only understand once it's gone.. detected in passing, which makes it beautiful and the subject more brilliant than they realize..."
Múm - The Ghosts You Draw On My Back The wind plays flute Through the cellar door And on my windowsill Plays a sad old song I hope tonight You will touch my hair And draw ghosts on my back Walk the shore Too impassable Shout at screaming waves Shout at silent rocks I think tonight I'll dream of salty tongues So tears drip down my legs The wind plays song Through the cellar door And on my windowsill Plays a sad old song I hope tonight You will touch my hair And draw ghosts on my back
An earlier version, put together using my grandmother's 8mm footage.

This remains one of my all-time favorite short films since its release.
