Congrats to Pat's Nougats for their decisive victory over Jeff's Cretins in Super Bowl XXXVI. After the parades and celebrations are behind us, Pat will buckle in and see if can become the first Super Bowl champion since -- are you ready for this? -- 2005-06, when Pat pulled off the feat. In fact, in our 36 years, that was the only time we've had a back-to-back champ. Now, the Nougats will be the ones on the hot seat to again make history in 2026.

Pat's win also marks the sixth consecutive Super Bowl with a unique champion. Go back one extra year, and Rich joins the group. That leaves Bob, who last won it all in 2010. (Don't feel too badly for him -- Bob's Mulligans are also the only team to boast an undefeated Super Bowl record, as he holds a lifetime 3-0 record in the postseason.)

For now, let the offseason commence, and congratulations to Pat's Nougats and to all teams for maintaining a league that started before internet connectivity was a thing.

As CBS says, the Nougats and Pirates are the league’s top two teams! Therefore, this week’s Super Bowl naturally features the Nougats and the Cretins. Good luck to both squads heading into the WFL’s 36th championship game.

At press time, CBS says the Nougats are 13 point favorites, which should pretty much guarantee a Cretins victory.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Chief celebrates the Nougats making the Super Bowl for the first time since 2016 - where they’ll almost certainly face the Cretins.

Technically, the Pirates are still eligible, but will have to win their last two games while the Cretins lose both theirs.

Konerkos could finish tied for second with the Cretins at 9-7, but since Jeff took both games from Jim this season, the Cretins would advance.

Week 15’s Game of the Week has the Cretins playing the United, and a win punches Jeff’s ticket to his third Super Bowl in five years. No reason to be nervous.

The Joey Jo-Jo’s made it a game, but as has been the case all season, the Konerkos were too much to handle, as they held on for a 154-144 win in Super Bowl XXXV.

The second-most points ever scored in a Super Bowl (298, behind only 2011’s 193-134 Nougats win over the then No-Names) gives Jim his fifth career Super Bowl win — including his fourth in the last 11 years, a pretty darn good stretch. Ted was looking for his second Cup in three years, but instead falls to 2-5 lifetime in the Championship.

Congrats to Jim on a 14-2 season capped by winning the big one! And thanks to Commish Pat for keeping us organized for yet another year. Does anybody else tell people they’re part of a 35-year-old fantasy football league? Chief is grateful to be involved.

Super Bowl XXXV is living up to the hype of a championship game: CBS predicts a margin of victory of 0.35, impressive for a league that only plays in whole points.

Chief looked back to examine close Super Bowl matchups: In 2010, Bob beat Kurt by 5; in 2003, Jim beat Ted by 4; and in 2020, Kurt beat Ted by 3.

But of course, there was no closer game than Super Bowl XI, when Jim and Pat tied at 135, which led to the creation of tiebreakers that may need dusting off!

Super Bowl XXXV begins with the Joey Jo-Jos facing the Konerkos (née No-Names), the second time in three years these franchises face off in the championship. Chief can’t help but notice the Christmas Day late game looks awfully similar to the Waddy Bowl score…

Ooooh, just six minutes left in the Monday night game, do we have a tie game in the making? CBS doesn’t think so, which only makes Chief think it’s more likely to happen

As we've all been emailed, Kurt has been judged to have the best draft by CBS. Yes, the same CBS that sometimes says teams have a 100% chance of winning a game that they lose, and the same CBS that ranked Saquon Barkley as the top possible choice in the 2024 draft. Who better to make such a judgment?

Chief tracked down draft grades from eight of the past nine years, and it's worth knowing, the team with the "best" draft doesn't go on to win the Super Bowl. John came close last year -- in fact, while CBS judged Kurt as having the best draft of 2023 and gave him an A grade, John placed second with a grade of ... A+, which we could call "quirky" if CBS didn't do the same thing three other times.

If history is our guide, Kurt is most likely to finish in fifth or sixth place. And the team with the fourth-best draft is most likely to win it all? Congratulations, Jim; ride that B- draft all the way to the Waddy Cup.

While CBS calculates the "best" draft -- and really, they'll pick Rich for his dominant receiving corps, considering his roster contains the maximum 13 WRs/TEs he could have -- Chief spends his time counting your time: How many seconds (on average) you spent making your draft selections.

Bob does well, considering he began on auto-draft (0 seconds!) and only needed two timeouts to get his roster legit with a QB and PK. While Rich could/should have been been on auto-draft, he tried drafting the Ravens DST, a first in WFL history. It was so much fun, Rich later tried to draft the Ravens a second time. Because of that, and the time needed for his QB/PK resets, Rich averaged nearly one minute per pick despite not being present.

Jim took top (or bottom?) honors, averaging a solid 1:17 *per pick* including a record 8:13 for his very first pick, the draft's third overall, which was delayed by technical issues. We'll soon learn if Jalen Hurts was worth the wait. Even if we cut that lengthy selection down to, say, 10 seconds, Jim would have averaged 49.7 seconds per pick, a virtual tie for fifth longest.

Big thanks to John, who set the pace at <24 seconds per pick, including only two picks that took longer than 34 seconds. In fact, the most time he took for a selection was 59 seconds; even Bob had a 94-second pick, and every other owner had a selection that took longer than that. Kudos to the Gromits GM.

As with each season, the first Game of the Week features the defending Super Bowl champion -- and as luck would have it, he's up against the team he beat in Super Bowl XXXIV, the Cretins. Jeff clearly has revenge on his mind, as he's a 19-point favorite at press time. Let WFL Season 35 begin!

Congratulations to the Gromits on winning Super Bowl XXXIV, John’s fifth championship (having won SB I, XIII, XV, and XXVIII). He scored enough points to win in his QB play, and CeeDee Lamb’s 31 points and James Conner’s 24 just piled on. (A perfect lineup would put the Gromits at 194 points and counting, which would have been a WFL Super Bowl record.)

Jeff’s odds of winning, says CBS: 1%

CeeDee Lamb (31) and Dak Prescott (28) were a pretty good stack for John’s Gromits on Saturday night. But will the decision to not start Breece Hall (13 points on Thursday) or David Montgomery (10 Friday) come back to haunt him?

We’ll know the outcome of Super Bowl XXXIV sooner than you might expect: All ten of Jeff’s Cretin starters are playing noon games. We’ll have a good idea if John will need big late afternoon games from DK Metcalf and Evan McPherson — or if he’ll be hoisting the cup before dinner.

And so the 2023 regular season comes to a close, with the Gromits and Cretins tied atop the standings as they prepare for Super Bowl XXXIV.

Jeff was just in the championship game two years ago, when his name was engraved in the Waddy Cup for a fourth time. John’s last appearance was in 2019, but his last victory came in 2017. That was also his fourth championship.

How close could this game be? Last time these teams met was Week 11 … which ended in the season’s only tie game, 136-136.

Bob has tried unconventional lineups this year, but this weekend may take the cake: While he’s started 3 PKs before, and he’s only started nine players before, this marks the first time he’s done both while also NOT starting a QB. That’s a bold strategy, Cotton.

Then again, he started Justin Herbert last week, only to have him tally -3 points, so maybe there was a lesson in that?

Amari Cooper’s 16 points has accounted for 84.2% of the Mulligans’ output so far. Here’s to Kenneth Walker III and Jason Myers having a big, big Monday night to avoid an ignominious WFL scoring record.

Both first-place teams are on track to win their games — including John over third-place Rich.

If both Cretins and Gromits advance to 10-3-1, and the next best teams are 8-6 with just two games to go…

Now that’s a close game

At this point last year, seven teams were mathematically alive for the Super Bowl. This year, we’re already down to four.

By next week, it could be three, as Pat’s Nougats need to win out AND leapfrog two teams. Not impossible, but it’ll take some luck.

Cretins are favored over the Joey Jo-Jos, while John and Rich face off in a big game for both teams.

Of course, we need to wait for Sunday for any of these games to start, as no WFL team started a player in tonight’s Patriots/Steelers game, which may be a league first.
