Hi, sorry for the delay.

Yes! The protagonist doesn't know why he receives gifts, but he assumes it's a way of thanking him. However, he doesn't understand why he receives them daily. So the protag started bringing him food in return, n to see if he could digest something other than fish and seaweed. Wireface ended up loving processed food and everything the protag cooked for him

The protag tries to be as balanced as possible with the diet he's giving wireface. He has no idea about mermaid digestion and metabolism, so he's very attentive to him reactions at every meal.
