I never knew how much I needed a character like Rae Earl in my life until My Mad Fat Diary came along.

I never, ever thought that I should have someone representing me on TV, why would I? Why would there be a show about a girl like Rae? I never tought of questioning these things, because who would watch the struggles of a fat teenage suffering from mental illness?

And the fact that this show exists, and the fact that it has taught me so much is something I will be forever grateful for.

I know I don’t have to put it into words, because y’all understand the feeling, but it’s SO INCREDIBLE to find people know what it’s like. I had never experienced anything like this before.

It’s the feeling that people out there understand, and they’ve been through some of the same things as you, and even though they’re miles away from here, they exist. And that’s really comforting.

And also, there could have not been a better person to play Rae than Sharon. She is a queen.

Chloe Gemmel in My Mad Fat Diary 3x03 ‘Voodoo’

I invented a game it is called…

                          Did happen in Series 2 or Series 3 

Rules are simple here is a list of scenes all you have to do is guess, did it happen in s2 or s3?

Finn arrives at the hospital to comfort Rae.

Rae has to take part in something involving a room full of people while worried about Chloe. While there she imagines Chloe it is distressing and she makes a poor decision because of it.

Rae continues to foster a friendship with a person whom she doesn’t know from Adam yet values their opinions over those of family and friends. Said new friend continues to spout awful advice which weakens Rae self esteem.

Rae forgets an important date in her Mum’s calendar and lets her down.

Linda pulls out all the stops so Rae doesn’t get in trouble at school.

Rae confides in her absentee father whom she has never bumped into on the street despite living in the same small town for 17 years.  Father then disappoints her with a selfish act!

Meets Finn in pub he is slightly amused as he ask her where she has been.

When Rae realizes that her and Finn do make sense it is too late as Finn seemingly moved on with a spikey red haired slightly creepy girl and flees. This scene causes great cringe

Chloe is portrayed as a victim…or is physically hurt.

Rae and Finn break up. 

Rae decides at drop of a hat that she is better, it works. 

Lots of storyline very little resolution

E4 mess up the release of the show.  

Bonus- We find out  Archie and Izzy’s surnames- wait no! [but we know that Mr Peter’s has dog and had a magician phase]

So do you still ship The Frae even after what they did to them in series 3?

I do. Absolutely. Of course I do! I have, like, eight fics in some stage of progress where they are in love or falling in love or pretending that they aren’t in love but are really so in love.

I think the difference for me is … Series 1 has the this gap. And we had to fill that in to make sense. And Series 2 has these breaks. And we had to fix what was broken to feel whole. 

But Series 3 took a leap too far. Based on what we see in Series 3, I can’t begin to imagine what Finn and Rae’s relationship was for the previous 18 months. And they break almost immediately, without a truly plausible reason. There were plausible reasons, but they didn’t use those. So, the Frae as we see them in Series 3, I don’t know what they are, or if they could be anything in future. I’ll have to set my fics in AUs or pre-Series 3, but I believe in those characters and their genuine chemistry. 

Rae Earl and Finn Nelson are young and stupid and mixed up and don’t talk to each other enough, but they love each other. Fundamentally and without question. Whether that love lasts or is to. be. continued. Well … now that’s up to us.

MMFD SPOILERS AHEAD. So there’s lots of questions/discussions surrounding finn, kester, and rae’s characters and dont get me wrong i have a LOT to say about them too but just for a minute or two can i talk about archie? (this is super long)

Spot-on analysis. I honestly feel that Archie’s character was butchered more than anyone’s (with the possible exception of Kester). I just didn’t recognise him in anything, everything felt terribly out of character, especially the exhilaration of being peeped at while fucking a guy he barely knew/talked to and whose house he was scared shitless of entering. I agree, he was reduced to stupid, vapid comic relief and cheap stereotypes.
