Celebrate a mother, for the woman she is, and for the person we turn out to be. Its not a woman who brings forth a society, its a mother. She is the be all do all of creation, she is someone who forgoes her individuality for the sake of her offspring. Make a Mother’s Day not by honouring her one wish, but by fulfilling her secret desires which she gave up for our happiness. Let’s not limit this day to a tradition, but remind ourselves each day for the gift of life given to us by our living, breathing, and loving Creator, our Mothers.

The Festival of Pins.
“Oye Sujata, give me the pin!!!” Sujata jerked back to reality. The clerk, Manish, was staring at her, hand extended, a tired look on his face. He held a crêpe paper in his hand, about to fix it to the wall above. Sujata handed him the pin, and went back to her thoughts.
It was the festival of Diwali, the festival which was celebrated with great pomp and fervour by the whole of India. The festival of lights, they called it. Sujata loved Diwali. There was a special magic in the air; the preparation of sweets, the twinkling of lights, the aroma of incense and the dizziness of the festive air, all brought with it a sense of joy and happiness which could never be comprehended beyond certain measure. Sujata never liked crackers; they were too noisy, smoke filled the lungs, and burning one’s own money was never a thing considered relevant to the festival. But Sujata had a great affection for lights, the happiness and the brilliance of those twinkling little stars, as if she was in heaven itself, was enough to make her buy various little Chinese styled lights and also the ‘mala’ of lights, which she would then hang about all over the bungalow. Her daughter, Kriti, was fond of lights too; which made Sujata very happy. Kriti was the biggest light in Sujata’s life; she adored her daughter. Kriti made her buy various buntings and streamers too, she had caught a fancy to them as she would visit her friend’s houses for birthdays and occasions, and spot such crêpe decorations of various colors and sizes, and would pester her mother to buy, which Sujata would happily comply with. There was another, very different reason why Sujata had a special affection for Diwali; it was a strange reason, but who’s to judge? Sujata loved pins; big pins, small pins, the silver colored or the bronze or even the gold pins which she would buy from the busy streets of Crawford market, or which would be sold on the local trains. She had a special box in her almirah, in which she would keep certain pins which she had a great liking for, and would call it the 'khazina’ or, treasure. She would show Kriti sometimes, in great secret, and she would glow with joy, when she fixed a bib around her chubby frame, and seal it with one of her special pins. She remembered how fondly her mother would give her a great stack of pins, all bound together by taking the biggest pin across them and sealing it. She would keep it on her waist, secured with the keys of her house. The pins were of great utility, whether to fasten the blouse, or to fix a cloth, the pins were always useful. During festivals, she would fix the lights all over the aging bungalow, and the pins were of great help, she would show off the bundle to Kriti, who looked at them in wonder and fancy getting her own bunch one day. Sujata and her pins were so famous, that she was called 'Tachni Bai’ or rather, the 'Pin Woman’ in her office. Whatever the occasion, she always had a stack of pins, ready to fix anything.
This was a story I conceptualised in my mind, while I was busy decorating my own house for an occasion. I had these pins in my hand, and I couldn’t help but wonder, what great invention are these! It holds things securely together, it pricks when u leave it open and it binds when its closed. Isn’t this a downright human tendency? If we have a group of loved ones amongst our midst, we tend to be close-knit and always feel loved and secure. The moment we are separated or alone, we show our frailties and we lash out at anyone who tries to help or comfort us. Sujata was no different; she held a symbolic meaning in those common stack of pins, it bound her family, her office, and most notable, it got her closer to realising the true joys of having the gift of togetherness.
We all are open pins, at some point in our lives, when we tend to be frail and alone, which affects are psyche and makes us immune to the joys of having meaningful friendships. But the moment we meet other open pins, and embrace them by securing them against our hearts, do we realise the true meaning of having a core group, who have problems and difficulties similar to us, but who service strength from each other and face situations with more confidence.
If you are an open pin, make an effort and reach out to others who you feel share your dilemmas, and help bring change into their lives, which will bring joy to them, but also a meaning to you. Stay happy, be pinned. Ciao!
So amazingly simple and beautiful!!
On A Valentines Day.....
Hello peeps!!!!! Tis the season to be lovey-dovey (not a season, just a day)
I have been seeing red too often(PUN INTENDED) ... And cliches such as 'Love is in the air!!' are heard (or seen, mostly seen) as people express their love for the one true love(ers) of their lives!!! ITS VALENTINES FOLKS!!!!!
Forgive me for the tone of slight sarcasm in my post (i know, its pretty evident by now), but hey, i ain't the party pooper types who wants to burst the cupid bubble that's apparent in the air. (am i?)
Come to think of it, do we really need such a day? I mean is valentines day the only time, we get to express the love and affection we have for our significant other(s)????(hell i like this). Are we not supposed to love our near and dear ones day in day out????
There is another baffling concept.. Why does this day only supposedly meant for 'the significant other'??? I mean, c'mon teenagers who have girlfriends OR boyfriends (or both, can't really determine now-a-days) really need to spend and gift each other stuff bought from their parents money??? Just to prove their stupid 'undying' love for each other??? And if the relationship breaks up, the undying love goes to the dogs, but the gifts remain with the 'true love' (mostly guys are the ones ending up penniless)
Basically my point is, in valentine season, (or day) spare a thought for your loved and dear ones, who help make a difference in your life (a positive one, mind you) and express your love, not with a costly gift, but something carefully thought out.. Even if you are an adult, its really surprising how a card made by your own hands, or a box of chocolates prepared and gift-wrapped by you, and gifted to your Dad/Mum/Brother/Sister/Grandparents can make them happy.. Most of all, it gives you a satisfaction of celebrating a day of love, in the true sense of the word.......
That's all I wanted to say about this day... And yes by this post, I do not have any intention of antagonizing couples... The best joy, the best gift of love can be experienced only with a person who completes you.. But, love the ones who made you the person you are today...
So folks, keep reading, keep loving.... Listen to love songs, hold hands and walk in the sunset, and spend the day in the arms of your beloved(s) (man, this is too mushy for a guy)
Let the lovely times roll!!! Happy Valentines!!!! CIAO.
OK i have been practically pretty late in saying this but a very Happy New Year 2014 to all the wonderful and beautiful people on Tumblr! Its been great to have such a site where you can actually share your thoughts and share and relate to stuff (though there isn't much reading and sharing on this space!)
Anyways, 9 days into the New Year have been a pretty much normal. No resolutions (not believing in such crap), as they pretty much are meant to be broken and tried again after a year again! Come to think of it, I should actually make a silent promise to keep my blog updated as frequent ideas float in my mind like flies hovering around sweets, but I have a penchant for being lazy. The moth takes time to go to the flame.
A New Year normally speaks of changes, new desires, new and renewed strength to do something you want, so on & so forth. But I would like to reflect on some moments I personally experienced....
Being a catholic, it is a tradition in my family to go for the Midnight Mass, (its not exactly midnight as we would get done by 11-11.30) held in our church on the 31st of December. After the mass, we burn the Old Man symbolizing the year gone by (Though I detest the practice, its actually fun!)
The moment me and my parents enter the house, my Dad would notice some or the other object thrown on the couch or the haphazard way my room would be in. He would then remark, "Lester, you have no sense of cleanliness. Your room is as disorderly and untidy as it was since I seen it last year." Though said in jest, it left me reflecting and procrastinating about.
A year consists of 365/6 days. In this period, we establish contacts, make friends, lose some, get heartbroken, find love, Strangers a year before become your closest friends, once-upon-a-time besties are the point of your bitching sessions, and many others. The point I wanna emphasize is, how much do we actually take forward and move on with, how many do we keep in our heart, how many do we forgive & forget???? Basically my point is, how much do we tidy up? and how much we keep our life in disorder!!!
It never is too late to correct our faults, accept our mistakes, confess to people how much we love them for being in our life, and thank many others for giving us memories. And what better way to do it than in the first month of the new year!!!
Thanks for bearing with me in reading this post. Guess I have a resolution coming my way about keeping my posts short!! CIAO :)
I have been quite aloof and away from the world of blogging the past few months. It seems quite exciting at times when there is a freshness about everything, when displaying pictures, or sharing thoughts, exhibiting your private life to public (washing dirty linen, to be precise) seems to be the current 'TREND' among the homo sapiens of the virtual world. Simply put, a new idea, a new thought, seems exciting unless we come to the part where it has to be executed!
At this juncture, i would like to share an insight of my own life, which actually happened today. It is the feast of my church (yes i am a catholic, big deal!) and after the mass, we had a live band performance comprising of clerics, (it was in no way the priests you imagine, they were very young and funky) and the band simply got the tempo of the festive atmosphere running!! Especially the guitarists, (hell, all girls find guitarists cute, dont even leave a padre!!)were worth the money!! It was a treat to watch..
Anyhoo, as i was clapping and prancing and singing to glory, i had this idea of forming a band, playing the guitar (i am a former band member and a guitarist) and gathering attention of the pretty girls and jealous guys (yes i was JEALOUS of the priest!) But, come to think of it now, i would not be quite ready, to even start playing again, or to even take the effort or be concerned. Even if some enthusiast pah-pahs me and takes efforts, it takes dedication and practice, which I doubt many would undertake in the longer scheme of things. Because believe me, there are few who take inspiration, many just give it up(No staring at me, i gave the insight)
It is this truth that comes to the fore of our modern world, the lack of motivation, the lack of push which is required. People make a comfort zone an asset, but do not step forward to take stock of their strengths and move to a new destination and create a better comfort zone for themselves..
I cant find anything to conclude with since i myself tend to forget what i was gonna come up with... so till then, Happy reading and reflecting..
Ciao!!!
Read at Your Own Risk!!!!!
The desire to write (or share as i know it!) comes from the want to explore and discover new stuff which you can relate to or which you think can be related with a specific person(s).... However I have no such 'generosity' to do it as of now..
I just had this fleeting desire to write a post devoid of purposes, of ambitions, of certain goals (agree to disagree!). But today I went about looking up on THE various designs and features which Tumblr has on offer (themes, customisations, the like) I even uploaded a more realistic picture, in sync with my tumblr handle (or domain name for the technically inclined!)
That is when I felt the familiar excitement, the rush of adrenaline (typically hypothetical lines, not to read much into it) the frantic call of sharing coming upon me.. That is when I decided to make a point
We all need certain modification s & changes in life to breakaway from the monotony of routine. We all need that breath of fresh air, the rush of new & exciting adventure, the waking up to a new challenge in our lives... We (read women) need new topics to gossip, to discuss, to reflect, and to relate.
In this world of everlasting change, we find ways & means to reinvent ourselves and to find something truly satisfying, though temporary... As soon as we have enjoyed it to the fullest, we tend to shove it out & look for something better.. I call it "The Chewing Gum Syndrome" OR (accept it I am generous) "The Theory Of Diminishing Marginal Utility" (This is for thee, nerds)
Whew! I realise now that even a small piece of thought, can lead to a big mountain of wise words (some of you would gladly beg to differ) the point of which amounts to almost nothing... But there is always more than what meets the naked eye.....
Now if ONLY Newton's apple had fallen on me.......
Rain Rain, little johnny loves you....
The rainy season, unlike others, (there are just two more in my ecosystem) is a refreshing and an amazing season known to the modern day homo sapien. It is the time when, after spending days and days in the sweltering heat, due to which your bodily fluids would drench you and make you sweat like a guinea pig, it would be the most awaited, and almost heavenly showers caused by the opening of the heavens, which would drench you in the waters of pure bliss, the smell of the earth, almost giving you a high (NOT for the ones who smoke weed) and the sound of rain pouring down would give you a rush of adrenaline which is seldom felt... Like a beer, which served best when chilled, the formula for enjoying the rains is to have a latte, some fried and crispy snack (bhajiya, most delicious!) and an I-Pod playing the music you can connect with during this season of tranquillity..
Forgive me for being a William Wordsworth (HYPERBOLE), but the rains seem to have an instant connection with me... It is the season I enjoy like no other.. Its like a four month-long festival of water (I am the eternal optimist) whose benefits are felt by everyone who have dark clouds hovering above their heads, and have some side effects (read bad roads, late trains, unsympathetic bosses, wet sneakers, the list is horrifyingly long) but that's another story.....
Rains are also a time when the schools re open, children take their new shiny school bags, loaded with books, the load of which would put a porter to shame, (i always wanted gunny bags to be in fashion) they get a new class, new friends, new teachers, the like.... It is also the time when people love staying indoors and sleeping late (the author himself is no exception) and when sleep becomes a chore (trust me it never does!) to go out and engage in a game of football, with the rain in full swing (and even other forces of nature such as mosquitoes, flies, fever, dengue.... but nah I am the eternal optimist)......
Any way, the point here is not that how good the above essay on the rainy season was, the statement I try to make here is that we all have a certain point in life where we try and make a fresh start, a new attempt at defining our life, (wow this came out good) to wipe the slate clean and write a new chapter in our short, (sometimes worthless, as my parents lovingly tell me) life.... We all need a certain start, a heads up, or a sign, to make us realize that there are varios beautiful things left to do, so many doors to be opened (not the literal 'DOOR') many options to be explored, and many secrets of life to be unearthed....
As for me, I bask in the heavenly pouring rain, with my hot chai, (TEA, you Britishers!!) the music wafting thru my ears, and with an open mind (no,not the devil's workshop) with a vision of what to do next...
To put it simply, i've got my signal...........
Thresholds of a new career.... A NEW LIFE!!!!!!!!
I have been aloof and away from blogging for quite a long time... Mostly because being a 12th Std guy with parents more ambitious than me and with constant fear of results and subsequent admissions baying for my blood have taken a toll (obviously i look at my FB!!!!) But since the zeal of sharing my experiences has been gnawing at my mind, i come back to the world of my comforts, that is, being an Anne Frank....
You may forgive me for swaying on the philosophical path, but recent events have deemed me towards that road.. As mentioned earlier, my HSC results are out (12th Std. for the uninitiated) and the pressures of thinking of prospective careers and considerations have led me to being a sermonising bloke..
It is an agonising experience, trust me (and many of you will agree to this) to be snatched away from a world of pleasures, fun, uncivilised behaviour, care-a-damn attitude,(read college) to that of a responsible, mature, thinking homo sapien of the corporate world we so dread. And as i said, due to ambitious parents, the change is much more swift and loathsome.
Even then, the prospects of a new life, a new career, exciting challenges to counter everyday (do NOT read this line normal office goers and govt. peeps) gives a certain meaning and makes you look at the brighter side of this change. Having your own cash and being able to spend it on any damn thing (not for thrifters) is another exciting prospect rather than begging from your parents....
As every situation has its pros and cons,so does the life of a responsible adult daunts ahead, daring me to challenge the uncertain, uneven road and make it a bed of roses for my own life and the life of others, who have kept it rosy and loving till now....

INDIAN CONSTITUTION: AN AGEING GIFT???
Heyaaa blogizens!!!! How are you all today?? Firstly I would like to wish all my fellow Indians a very happy Republic Day!!! For those people (who may someday read this post) it is a day of pride as the Indian Constitution was formulated and put into practice......
Who am i kidding?????!!!!!! Are the 'charged and fired up' youth of today even possessing basic knowledge about the significance of this day?? I have read papers and even some TV shows (basically news channels) who carry on surveys among the youth which is showcased on TV. The question goes like this, "So what is the importance of republic day???" Ans: (A puzzled look, a smirk, and then a thoughtful answer) "It is the day we got freedom!!!!" (accompanied with the brightest smile ever seen!!! This is our India, the one for whom our leaders fought for, the FUTURE of our great country!!! In actuality, i am no leaders son, nor is my dad or grandpa in the Indian Army.... But as a citizen of this country, and a very concerned one, it is an apathy to see fellow youth buckle up and give such shocking (my least reaction) to questions they should have learnt in school!!!!! Anyway, enough of my ranting patriotism..... For the uninitiated, (or even foreign readers) here is a basic info about the 26th of January, and WHY do we get a day of from our work and classes in the form of holiday.............
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_Day_(India)
OK.... Coming back to my dicussion....... Indians must be familiar with the certain tensions and various crimes and other related stuff happening in our country... (Unless you are living under a rock)..... I would like to highlight one such case, i.e., the:
DELHI BUS GANG RAPE CASE....
All or most of you must be familiar with the case, as it was the one thing, after various bomb blasts and Anna Hazare's, that united our country. The guilty were arrested, even though there was shoddy work by the police (as usual), the guilty were tried in court etc, etc..... But my point is, were they suitably punished?? Did our laws, archaic as they are, give them suitable punishment which would act as a deterrent to other rogues????
Take the example of Aseem Trivedi, a political cartoonist as he is widely been called. His fault: He drew some omighty offending cartoons against our nation and insulted the national flag and also showed politicians ruining the country (aren't they??) The result: Sedition Charges... Even though i am a college going guy, i am pretty sure the punishment on him was pretty serious... (The police and government seemed to agree too, at a later stage but lets not talk of it) Protests began, aseem was freed but refused to leave jail and all the hullaballoo was created........
My point is: Does our Constitution, so beautifully drafted, needs restructuring??? Do our archaic laws need to be changed in sync with changing times (and crimes???) There are many more examples such as the Palghar case, etc etc.......
So anyway folks, here's wishing you a very happy republic! Do feel free to read, reflect, and reply to me and tell me your views... Ciao!!!!! Sorry.... JAI HIND!!!!!
My first Tumblr post...
Hey blogizens whaddup!!! I would like to call you "BLOGIZENS" cause nowadays there are so many terms such as "netizens", "tweeple", etc etc... so even bloggers need to have a certain identity, right?? So just to break the ice, I am Lester, as you can read my info from my description, i would not go into that.. This is my first tumblr post but i would like to start right away with something i would feel free to share with everyone...
SWITCHING OFF!!!!
Today I had a fight with a very intimate friend of mine (it is actually a regular activity) caused because of a misunderstanding and which led to a very heated argument between us. Normally either I or my friend would realize our folly only the very next day after fighting the whole previous day... But this time it was different... I told her i would not like to converse with her anymore and thaat i am switching off the cell... Which i did.. Later after a few hours, i cooled down and switched on my phone just to text her.. But she had switched off her phone too! Afterwards i got a text from her saying 'it was a silly fight, just lets not waste our time in that', with a big smile... I too agreed and we became normal as before...
This happens in everyone's lives... whether a teenager, an adult, and more often between married couples.... what should be the solution then??? SWITCH OFF!!!
Yes. Switching off for a while, remaining alone after a huge fight, asking for some "ME" time, can act as instant coolers to even the biggest of fights! It helps you to realize why the argument starts in the first place and for what reason. If it was something for a silly and trivial matter, you can even laugh it out with your friend over it! The most important advantage of switching off is realising the importance the person has more than your fights or for that matter, even your ego. It helps you to reconcile and kiss and make up in just a matter of hours.... If you don't reflect on your fights, and just carry on with your razzmatazz, it all leads to broken friendships, marital discord, hurt egos... Which many of you guys know wayyyy to well!!! :(
So i hope you all readers enjoyed reading this.. Most importantly, its better to reflect on what is written..
So till next time blogizens!!!!!!!! CIAO! :)
