The empty mind - the pure mind - is not a blank, zero-land, where you’re not feeling or caring about anything. It’s an effulgence of the mind. It’s a brightness that is truly sensitive and accepting. It’s an ability to accept life as it is. When we accept life as it is, we can respond appropriately to the way we’re experiencing it, rather than just reacting out of fear and aversion.
Ajahn Sumedho
No wonder we cannot appreciate the really central Kafka joke: that the horrific struggle to establish a human self results in a self whose humanity is inseparable from the horrific struggle. That our endless and impossible journey toward home is in fact our home.
David Foster Wallace, Consider the Lobster and other essays
An 1985 interview with Jean-Michel Basquiat, “What are you angry about?”
I still love the people I’ve loved, even if I cross the street to avoid them.
Uma Thurman
just be honest, it saves everyone's time.
We are all alone, born alone, die alone, and – in spite of True Romance magazines – we shall all someday look back on our lives and see that, in spite of our company, we were alone the whole way. I do not say lonely – at least, not all the time – but essentially, and finally, alone. This is what makes your self-respect so important, and I don’t see how you can respect yourself if you must look in the hearts and minds of others for your happiness.
Hunter S. Thompson
I understand. That’s the trouble. I understand. I’ll understand all the time. All day and all night. Especially all night. I’ll understand. You don’t have to worry about that.
Ernest Hemingway
“— the loss of love that comes to mean more than the love itself and how explain that? — a still pool in the forest that has ceased to reflect anything except the past”
— Al Purdy, from “Listening to Myself,” Beyond Remembering: The Collected Poems of Al Purdy (Harbour Publishing, 2000)
hey when the fuck are things gonna get easier
Friends hold the power to do damage, or heal. I’m grateful for the times I’ve recieved kindness. Chances are I will be kind right back.
B. E. Barnes
never regret things done in love, revel them, cherish them, they are a reminder of a time when your soul was boundless
What makes you happy and content in life ?
It’s the small and pleasant things that I have learned to extract joy from in life these days.Things like a good conversation, running into an old friend or making a new one, a good meal, an enchanting poem, a nice song, a joke, an assignment well done, a glass of good scotch and the list goes on. For life is made up, not of great sacrifices or duties, but of little things, in which smiles and kindness, and small obligations given habitually, are what preserve the heart and secure comfort.
Well I can't. I'm shy, and mostly afraid of rejection.Obviously not the one who asked you if you're single. I think in my case it wouldn't matter, I'd definitely not try to steal you from someone, but you'd always be someone who's gravely intrigued me
I understand and rejection is a legitimate fear but it will not apply in this case; and to me it would matter. I am a single man without romantic interests on the horizon so any guilt you might feel is redundant. Now, I am quite intrigued as to who you are and I hope that you will indulge my intrigued mind. Thank you.
Sincerely,Galib.
