Game play:
Game works fine and I personally think it looks good. The only thing that’s not working is heath bars because you have to assign the player I managed to make them work by assigning in game. I was not able to find a solution because players were instantiated, so you can’t assign a player if it’s not assigned. Overall, I enjoyed making this game and would love to make more.
New Assets
Sometimes it is fun to create assets for you game. Today I have been drawing with my tablet in Photoshop, I have been trying identify shapes and make assets look more 3D looking. Firstly, I drew silhouettes and tried to identify where should all the shaped be, after that you just simply do shading. For now I am happy with my work I think my fern looks just great, and island perhaps could be better because rocks should have a bit more distinctive corners and reflect light a bit different. All in all, I’m happy with my work while having in mind doing things differently than now.
New Background
Recently I’ve made a new background. I was inspired by my memories and wanted to make something simple. I took a few reference images, however, it is always beneficial to learn by taking references and making something on your own. This should be scrolling background for the game but I don’t if it will fit into the gameplay.
Working on backgrounds
Last week I did some progress on the background. Firstly I’ve painted cloudy blue background after that I was messing with effects on photoshop (Adjustment layers: curves, hue, modes).
Bad hair
It’s been a while I’ve been working on this project. Last week I’ve tried to make walking and idle animations, also other character design. In Unity, I have been using free ad-don called Anima2d which has some bugs. I have animated my character, however, after I save it my characters hair does weird things. Perhaps, I could find a way to make hair as I wanted but I wasted a lot of time and I think this bug will change character appearance, makes the character look more unique. I’ve learned that sometimes it can be fun to find bugs which can make your character look crazy and nice, however, making original concept over bugs can be quite challenging. EDIT: I actually fixed the hair the way I wanted. (Don’t put more than 2 bones in one mesh because Anima2D can’t handle that)
Unity 3D and Terrain
Unity 3D is a powerful tool, you can create beautiful or simple landscapes easily. I created a simple night landscape with lights and played around with it, it’s quite satisfying to create a mysterious place. By creating I remembered how to basic things on Unity. All in all, I would like to do something with this in the future.
Today we did just some progress in character development. There should be 3 characters: ninja, pirate, and robot. Our team thought it would be a good idea to make one character and from that make base layout and make other characters. It would make easier to keep same collision size and not make unfair advantages for players. I am quite happy with our first design. However, doing this I realised how much I need to improve to make a good concept and it’s a long way to go but I hope it would be worth it.
Team Logo creation
A logo is the essential representation of any team or company. The logo usually looks simple and memorable. Our team tried to create a simple logo. All the work was done in Adobe Illustrator because it is very handy if you need vector graphics. I feel I improved in using this software, I learned how to make a clipping mask of a shape or manipulate vector shapes. We have started by creating simple shapes and trying to create griffin. After that, we decided to fill Griffin with gradient because it looked too bland. Later on, we thought that mythical create looks weird without eyes. Lastly, we added background and tried to make an appealing logo. However, I believe we could do a better logo, perhaps with more effects or with a better color palette, but for now, we are keeping this simple piece of art.
Don’t starve together one of my favourite game. I believe that this game can be addictive. I really like the game style and the mechanics are easy to understand but hard to master. I did some work on art and made a file about modifications in game. Those modifications contain Colorado Beetle, onion, potato, potato plant and onion plant. I believe those assets fit good enough because of the line art, although it could be better. All in all, I am happy to try different things and try to adapt to different drawing styles.
I am really sorry, I didn’t made the game how I wanted, it was really promising. However, the time has come and this guy won’t be in the game and some other characters. Because of this I have learned to make a forced end and the whole scenario. However I still hope that everyone who plays that game will enjoy it.
I think putting time and effort into quality images is priceless you can easily sharpen your skills and relax. I have made these background images and I am quite happy with my product. However, some of the pictures could be using a different style. All in all, I am doing my best to improve graphics and make this game with quality graphics. I hope you like it too.
I believe for some people simple walking/running animations may look simple. Today, I learned to make animations in Unity. I really enjoy learning how animating works, however I am a bit disappointed because you can not copy transitions between animations which can be time consuming besides that this system is limitless you can do various things. You can easily control how, what and then it happens. All in all, I believe this is one of the most essential things
Particle system
I like to mess around and experiment. I was introduced to Unity particle system and our group tried to learn a new system. It is possible to use mesh instead of sprites in the particle system so I tried to do something fun and got this one.
Screens, Sprites and Animation
It’s always fun to experiment and learn new things. Today our class was introduced with Unity animating system. It is very fascinating how animating can be. I was making animation branches and creating animations. It was very easy to learn mechanics of animating. By learning to animate in Unity I will be able to create fun game mods.
Mod Preraration
Have you ever wondered how does it feel to create a board game or mod a game? Today I was watching incredible presentations of my classmates and interesting board game concepts. All students were divided into groups, our group made board game ‘Darkest Dungeon The Board Game’ the presentation was great although our game was not completely finished. I have learned that it is important to communicate with your team and not be afraid of new things. Later on, we had to play and think of choosing a game that we would like to make modifications on. There was ‘Flappy bird’, ‘Shootemup’ and ‘Graphic Adventure’. However, the ‘Graphic Adventure’ looked most promising because it involves stories. By modding this game I hope to add amazing stories.
