Many plants are cheap in Indonesia, but not these Blueberry plants. Not the most expensive plant ive bought. That was an air layered Magana Mamey sapote.. In Australia im confident I could get a named variety for under $10. One of these plants cost $60, plus heap more in shipping, and I dont know what variety it is. If youre coming from Oz.. please bring blueberry plants. Anyway these are for a landowner who has a well watered spot higher up the mountain. Im going to see if ive still got the knack for blueberry cuttings. I was horrified to turn up to find a concrete slab next to our most pretty waterfall. In my nicest angry voice I explained this wasnt acceptable and it needed to be removed immediately and completely Theyd made it for praying on. But hadnt asked any permission to build it. Thats the problem,plus its ugly. So ive said to them, they may build a movable structure from Bamboo. Something that leaves no lasting impact and suitable for both Prayer or visitors seating This is what theyve put together. Asparagus, I love it. Its rather experimental here, but I think it looks happy enough.. I think it needs a good feed with liquid manure Asparagus are hungry Hogs, and we havent put anything in this bed yet except charcoal, Banana trunks, rice hull and Compost. Nice soil conditioners. But nowhere near enough Vegetables need soils far more fertile than almost any found in nature. I found a wild Asparagus colony in Australia. But the spears were tiny. Bayam merah is pretty popular as a pot herb. Its a red tinted Amaranth. We sowed many, but a few errors and some snails left us with about 50 plants. Thats more than enough if we allow them all to go to seed. Each plant creates thousands of tiny black seeds, enough to seed a whole village Seedsaving really isnt in the culture here. Portulaca grandiflora. A succulent for Villa Chibo roof garden. They love the full sun and exposure. Amongst 1000 red and yellow plants we picked out several unique mutations. After nearly a year of reverse engineering this Nagin Bamboo, we have some divisions. Its Bambusa ventricosa, a type of buddha belly bamboo. They sell it here as sterile/blind ornamental culms. But I turned them back into viable clumps. Looks like this yielded 5 or so. Next step is to buy more, now we know it works. I really like this bamboo. Purple Guava, a nice Bonus from an online plant order. I'm not so into Guava myself but I like to have access to the plant as the leaves are good astringent medicine. Good for dysentry and other bacterial gastrointestinitis. The Tannins bind up the surface layer proteins of Bacteria. The fruit have a reputation of being good for you in recovering from Dengue fever, and though I found nothing to back that up in pharmacology, I still took it. Of the Guava, a fully ripe yellow skin, pink flesh is the best ive had yet. Ill pass on the tasteless white This Purple might be good.. A specific type of bedding plant was specified for landscaping in one of the Villas. This is Dwarf Mondo grass,it really doesnt get much taller than this, just bushier.. So we have a little time, so we are splitting many of them. There were 2000, I hope we get 3000 out of them. Then we treat them with plenty of care so they grow quickly. Mondo is pretty tough but this cultivar is slow, so needs to be planted very densely. It doesnt really have any use other than to create a specific groundcover effect.. though I suppose the groundcover effect is anti erosion, and its biomass.. Anyway im happy we can value add this way. Growing succulents in Lombok isnt as challenging as getting them here. These arrived in the post from Java. Theyre Baby Sunrose, Aptenia cordifolia. There used to be an awesome hanging garden of these at Bambook studio office, cascading from a balcony garden, but then one day the owner had just grubbed them all out !! Not even trimmed.. just exterminated. It was an amazing patch, and its inspired me to reccomend them as part of the roof garden mix for Villa Chibo. Its just a pity I have to import them again rather than propagate ourselves We are only using succulents that have proven themselves under local conditions, but that list is slowly growing So, I lost about fifteen percent in transit which is a great result. Ive had shipments of other succulent plants where it was a total loss. So these are out breathing and drying off. The hardest way to kill a succulent is by not watering it ;) the fastest way is by leaving it in wet conditions. Thankyou @ridwanparman. 50 Bamboo secured of Thyrsostachys siamensis. It has so many common names. I knew it as Thai Monastery Bamboo,bit here its often called Bambu Jepang or Bambu Jakarta. Its a very ornamental plant,dense screening bamboo and amazing for Charcoal as the culms are so solid. I live the very fine leaf litter as a hassle free mulch. Pretty and easier to sweep off paths than others, and doesnt smother other plants. 44 plants for @Villachibo , the other 6 are the Understudy. Our team is installing a special type of toilet, for the 23 staff in the Tampah hills green teams. It's a standard toilet at the user end, but at the processing end itll be a tiger x Vetiver hybrid. Tiger toilets use compost worms to digest solids and remove pathogens Vetiver latrines use Vetiver grass to remove pathogens and suck up nutrients that could otherwise pollute the water table Both these approaches are exccedingly cheap, effective, and can be retrofitted to many existing toilets as well as new installations.
