I fight for what's right, no matter the consequences. [ sam claflin ] just checked back into central city. oh wait, that’s actually [ roy harper ]. the database tells me that they are [ 28 ] and that they spend their time working as a [ single dad ]. however, under the mask of darkness they are also known as [ arsenal ] with the power of [ a literal arsenal ]. word on the street is that they are [ passionate ] and [ quick tempered ], hopefully that will come in handy. My Roy is a mix of the TV and Comics canon, with a heavy weighting on the Comics as that’s what I know! roy is a massive dork. no, really. he watches kids tv (and he may try and deny it but he watched it before lian came along, though he has started to get sick of certain shows) roy has been AWOL/in hiding for three years! he has a daughter, Lian, who just turned five. he was not aware of her existence until he went into hiding. People who know about Lian: Dinah, Thea, Ollie, Dick, Jason, Kori, Donna, Felicity before roy became arsenal he attempted a stint as red arrow. he felt like this was too childish and felt arsenal fit him better roy has substance abuse problems. these existed to some extent before he went into hiding. at some point between leaving and being left with lian, roy became addicted to heroin. he is currently clean but it’s a daily battle. while AWOL roy has had contacts with the teen titans and at one point led the outsiders. he has hidden his identity and worked hard to keep his existence secret, but having heard of the sudden move to central has decided to move, to follow thea, in the hope she’ll take him back and accept his baby girl.
“I don’t expect you to have any innate desire to. I would just like a… good set of eyes,” Slade replied, seeing if a kind of acknowledgment at his own expense would help.
“Oh, really?” Roy barked out a laugh, rolling his shoulders a little. “Right, okay. I guess I could help out. What do you need my eyes for?”
“uh, yeah, about that…” he trails off, fingernails scraping through the pelt at the back of his neck. “would you classify a mug as nice? not that i got you a mug for christmas, nope.” he shrugs. “eh, you know me. nothing can really keep me down. you? how’s the kid?”
“A mug. Dude, really?” Roy scoffed a little, shaking his head with a grin. He didn’t mind, really. Christmas wasn’t for him anymore, it was for Lian. “I’m okay. Working in Dinah’s office is pretty cool, and Lian’s great. Finally settling in here, you know how much she hated the idea of moving.”
“listen – i am probably one of the best engineers in the world, not to sound cocky but when i tell you that your car is screwed and you need to buy a new one you should probably listen to me instead of continuing to drive it around until it blows up.”
“I’ve got to get my kid to school somehow, man.” Roy said, tugging at his hair a little. “Is there nothing you can do? Like, at all? Just a quick fix so it’ll stay running until I can afford a new one?” His new job was paying okay, but that covered rent, and food, and kid-related-bills. Not a new car.
‘ excuse me, ‘ oliver calls out, quickening his pace just enough to catch up with the person in front of him. there’s a charming smile and his hand extends outwards offering them the object in his grasp. ‘ — i think you dropped this.’
“Thanks, man.” Roy took the toy off Oliver, handing it back to Lian. “Kiddo, you keep dropping this, it’s going back in the bag and you’re not getting it until we get home, okay?” He looked back up, grinning a little. “Hey, Ollie. Was just on my way to come see you.”
‘ tough luck, huh ? ‘ she mused, lips pressing together softly. ‘ for the most wonderful time of the year, people sure become awfully vicious – wouldn’t be surprised if someone bribed it away with a higher offer. ’
“Looks like it.” Roy grumbled. He was wrapped around Lian’s little finger, and the idea of disappointing her crushed him. Maybe another store would have the doll- if he could get to it before it closed. “You wouldn’t know what might make a six year old girl forget that she missed out on the doll she wanted, would you?”
James Jr. strolled along the streets of Central City with a grin spread across his lips as he followed word that his family had come to this city to go on about their lives. They had moved and didn’t even invite him to tag along. No letters or phone calls. Not a word or whisper to welcome him for a family reunion. All as well. The boy figured he would have to convince his family that he was a changed man – even if he wasn’t. A challenge James was more than willing to accept.
Having just dropped Lian off at school, Roy was walking through the town- his job working for Dinah didn’t start for a couple of hours, so he’d have the chance to run any errands he needed to. Today was grocery day, his least favourite thing. Distracted by his thoughts, and displeasure, he managed to walk smack bang into someone. “Shit, sorry- wasn’t looking where I was going. You okay?”

“i completely understand… well… i don’t really? but i’m trying my best to understand.” kori laughs and offers up another smile to roy. she wanted to help him make this a great christmas for him and lian. he was her friend after all, and they deserved it. “let’s go looking for something she’d like then! i’m sure we could find something.”
“Hey, I didn’t think I’d ever understand,” he shrugged a little. Having a kid had never been something he thought he’d do, let alone having one as a single dad, and even less the mother being an assassin. “She likes pretty much everything, really. She’s going through a pretty big dinosaur phase right now?”
Lois had been in the middle of picking out a present for the paper’s toy drive when she caught Roy’s outburst of sorts. She’d managed to find the doll in question towards the back of the shelf. “Roy,” she murmured, tugging his sleeve. “Buddy, is this it?”
“Uh. Yeah.” Roy blushed as red as his hair, running a hand through it. “Sorry, I’m just- Lian’s been so good, you know, with the move here and leaving all her friends behind?” He sighed softly. “I wanted to make sure I got her everything she asked for.” Turning, he apologised to the woman behind the counter, and took the toy.
“do you need me to fly around the country?” kori asks with a stiffed laugh and a small look of sorry on her face. she tucks a curl behind her ear. “really though, i can maybe make some calls if you want. or ask my secretary.”
Roy stepped back from the counter to smile at Kori a little. “Sorry, I’m just- this is the first Christmas me and Lian are living on our own, y’know? And I want to make it really good.” He sighed softly, shrugging. “She does have pretty much everything else she asked for, and she never really plays with dolls.”
❝ okay well how can i say no to that kind of offer? ❞ her lips tugged up in a smile, leaning toward lian to allow her to place a kiss on her cheek as she’d wanted. ❝ oh don’t worry, everything has pretty much been chaos around here. are you all set for the holidays? ❞
“No one ever can.” He grinned, letting Lian wriggle down and start playing on the floor. “Pretty much. We managed to get Lian’s letter sent off to Santa, and he’ll definitely be bringing everything she asked for- she’s been so good, with the move and then with all the- crazy.” Roy smiled down at her, then back at Barbara. “What about you?”
“hey,” dick greets, a grin lightening his face as he rifles through his pockets, coming up empty. this has happened too many times before - he forgot his wallet. “you mind taking pity on a fellow american and buying me a coffee? it’s for a good cause, i swear. forgot my my wallet in my other jeans, been one of those days.”
“You better get me something nice for Christmas,” Roy tutted, getting his wallet out and leaning over the counter to pay, ordering his own coffee while he was at it. “Been a while, Dickiebird. How’re you doing?”
“What do you mean, you’re out of the doll? I called- I asked you to reserve one. C’mon, it’s my kids first Christmas in Central and I called and saved one, this is bullshit!” Roy said, shaking his head.
❝ look, i love christmas as much as the next girl, i do. i may have watched year without a santa claus 5 times this week, but i swear if one more random person tries to kiss me and claim mistletoe, i’m punching them in the face. ❞
“Even if it’s a pocket-sized princess who wants to give you a kiss on the cheek?” Roy grinned, a sparkly bag in one hand and Lian on his hip. “She’s been demanding to see ‘Owacle’ for weeks, I’m sorry I haven’t been able to bring her by until now.”
“I understand your reservations. What is it you need to know first to know that, now, I am not the man I was.”
Roy laughed, humourless and dry. “Right. Yeah, okay. Not the man you were. That’s great for you. I’m not the man I was, either. So why should I help you?”
