It was a normal day at Night Raven College, as normal as it could get. You and Grim were running late to your classes, but then again when were you not. You stayed up to do another late night assignment and task for Crowley. The damn crow. Assigning you to do late night janitor work with no heads up, it was rather frustrating. Seeing no one doing as much work to withhold a spot in a college. They didnāt even want to go either, mind you. But alas you and Grim need to have a place to live and have food to eat.
Living with Grim wasnāt easy you would admit that. But it would be so empty without him. Your hands trembling as you look at the portraits and the small details. It was beautiful, when was the last time you did that? The coal and pencil lead that would smear on your hands after focusing on the small details, the paints staining your clothes as you listen to your music. You couldnāt remember the last time you painted or drew anything. But that was the one thing that made you, you.

He found you looking at the portraits and sculptures in Scarabia one day, your fist trembling and eyes reminiscent of the past. It looked as if you were both envious and in awe. That twinkle in your eye was something he had noticed immediately, and of course he has to ask why you were so down in the dumps!
āHey, y/n!ā He chirped as he stepped right beside you. His ruby red eyes looking over you yours. āWhatcha looking at?ā Kalim blurbs, gentle but still his overwhelming happiness only seems to sour your mood even more. You could only let out a simple hum as you gesture towards the portraits of the Scalding Sands. The orange and beige with the blue sky so beautiful and expertly crafted to perfection.
āTheyāre cool right?ā Beaming brightly he continued with a gasp, āOh, do you want me to get one for you?ā He shouts with excitement, eyes full of hope and enthusiasm. But this only seemed to make you break down sobbing, your face scrunched up and red. The salty tears run down your face as you sob into your hands, fist clenched and shaking. Kalim was severely alarmed, eyes wide with concern and shock. āOh- I didnāt mean to upset you, y/n!ā He exclaims with a frown, eyebrows furrowed and his face softened.
āNo, no itās not that.ā You hiccup in between the sobs. Your eyes running up to look at Kalim, your face twisted and damp from tears. Kalim grabbing your hands with his, fingers intertwined with yours. Trying to sooth the massive torrent of emotions that lied underneath.
āI used to be so good at painting, now I donāt even sketch!ā You cry out, sniffling the snot that threatened to pool out from your nose. Kalim could only nod and smile warmly as you vent your heart out about your loss of freedom to creatively express yourself. āI can make it better!ā Kalim exclaims helplessly āIāll buy you a whole new painting set, even let you use my room as a quiet space!ā Kalim shouts loudly, then blushing a dark red hue before apologizing for his volume.
This left you to slowly stop crying, wiping the tears that still lingered. āYouād do that for me?ā Questioning his gentle gaze before smiling happily. āIād like that, Kalim..ā watching as he lit up like a candle, ruby red eyes glittering at your change of demeanor.

One day after a party, you decided to stay over to help Jamil clean up. When you were done with the dishes, a certain painting caught your eye. The intricate detail to the hair and eyes of the lady posing was impressive and clearly a very skilled artist. Jamil managed to slither over, noticing the twinkle in your eyes. Stars practically swelled, but so did tears.
You started to ball your eyes out at the sight, ashamed that you neglected your passion. Feeling guilt and anger over the fact that dealing with so much lead to you abandoning YOU. Art was apart of your life, it wasnāt just a hobby. It was your life and passion. Tears slipped out with frustration and sadness churning in your stomach.
When he caught sight of your salty sadness rolling down your cheeks he was genuinely startled, see he isnāt a good comforter. But with you it seemed as if he was a natural. āWhatās upsetting you, Yuu?ā He asks in a soothing tone, eyes burning into yours. Genuine concern and affection claimed his usual nonchalant demeanor.
But the question only seemed to make you cry harder, resulting in him tensing up even further. āUrkāā he grunted as you suddenly pulled him into a tight hug, eyes shut as your tears bled into his vest. āIām sorry, this is just so embarrassing!ā You sniffled out in between breaks, arms tightening around him like a snake. Sobbing muffled as he tried to process your abrupt burst of emotions. āYouāre good, I got you,ā he paused shortly before looking at you, hand cupping your cheek. āI got you.ā
Your cheeks burn in both embarrassment and shame. His touch calms you down to a degree in which itās scary, his attention to detail makes it all the more significant to his methods. Heās not doing this to gain anything, heās doing this to comfort you. And only you, Kalim gets fake sympathy and pity, you get his genuine concern and attention. And thatās special. Later that night he walked you to your dorm before setting off with a new goal in mind.
The very next day, Jamil comes up to your table unannounced with Kalim by his side. āHey, I thought youād like this.ā He said with averted eyes, a red deepened in his expression. You sat next to the first years and Grim as you take the thick sketch book with artist grade pencils. Colorful watercolor paints and Acrylics all in a neat little box. The paints brush bristles tickle your finger tips, and a soft smile makes its way to your face. āThank you, Jamil.ā

I felt like drawing Kalim with more than just a smile for once, and this I did them to warm up. Im trying to get better at drawing Kalim with and without head accessories.
Kalim couldnāt remember the last time you truly smiled. It was just one devastating morning when life felt too dull to be true. You cried for a long time, and Kalim could only try and comfort you. Like any normal human being, he wanted to know why. Why you cried, why his love and joy was so upset.
You told him nothing, just waved off his questions like there was nothing wrong. But from that day forward, you never seemed to be the same. Sure, you smiled, you laughed, you acted like nothing was different, but behind the facade was someone else, someone broken, someone who choked back tears every night. And Kalim, as oblivious as he usually was, saw it all.
You were his lover, his partner, his one and only, so why wouldnāt you confide him?Ā
It got so bad, to the point where you stopped coming over to Scarabia and attending less and less classes, and soon enough, you didnāt even step outside at all. Kalim wanted to help you. He really did, but if you didnāt open up those doors, how could he?
He asked everybody about you. Do you know what happened? Have you seen them at all? But nobody knew, not even Grim.
Eventually, Kalim stopped trying to figure out the cause. After all, it only seemed to make things worse whenever he brought it up. Though that didnāt stop him from checking up on you. He left flowers by your doorstep, your favorite foods, things you used to love. He kept doing it, over and over again, even when you decided to break up with him, telling him you were a waste of his time, that he should just move on because you were a lost cause andā¦ more stuff Kalim didnāt want to remember.
Still, he kept going.
Whenever someone asked why he would just say, āI just wanna see Y/N smile again! I wanna make them happy!ā
You were grateful. It was justā¦ really hard to show it.
As time passed rumors about you spread, and it only seemed to make you fall deeper into that hole you'd created. Before you knew it, you were standing at the edge of a roof top, wind brushing past your tear-streaked face. With a purposeful step, you fell backwards. Finally, youād be free of that burden!

It was just so sudden. That hand that shot out of nowhere grabbing your arm and pulling you back. Time almost felt too slow as you saw that familiar face.Ā

āKeep living, okay?ā He smiled joyfully, helping you back to sturdy ground.
Kalim was aware that maybe it wasnāt the greatest idea to save someone who wanted to die, but you could be his friend, an acquaintance, an enemy, anything as long as you kept living. Do it for him!
A selfish request all for what? All because deep down he knew that his world, this world- wouldnāt be complete without you.
Every time you tried to leave he was always there, and every time he brought you back you resented him even more.

He didnāt care if you resented him. Heād wait for eternity just to feel your love again, just to see your genuine smile one more time.
If only Kalim had an eternity, if only.
But no matter the sum of money, an eternity cannot be bought, nor can true love.
And all it took was one fateless day for that hate to slip out of your hand and kill him.
The knife meant to erase you erased him instead. The blood that spewed out was his, not yours. The eyes that were meant to close stayed open, and the smile that shouldn't have existed lingered for a little bit longer.
Using his last ounce of strength, Kalim pressed a kiss to your forehead, his breath smelled faintly of blood. He'd never figured out the cause, never know if you'd stay alive, but he saw a genuine smile though full of hate, the light in your eyes before you stabbed him... it was still a smile nonetheless. It was still a spark... and he couldn't have asked for more.
