spike is all too casual.  he’d just eaten or else the smell of blood would have volunteered her for his meal.  she was lucky.  that, and the panic that became evident in her raised heartbeat.  he shrugs, exhaling smoke with his chuckle.  “ watchin’ you?  no.  no, i’ve got much better things to do than watching someone stab someone—-second thought, that’d be some fine entertainment, second to doin’ it myself. “  he flicks ash off the end of the cigarette, taking a final pull before flicking the bud onto the ground.  another exhale before he speaks.  “ no, …no, i smell blood on the bird. “

‘   what? like lurking in dark alleys ? ’    despite the derision in her voice, there’s a mild panic that rises in her. she doesn’t exactly believe him about smelling it ------how could he ? so a part of her still believes he’s seen her deed and wants to use it as some sort of leverage. but nina has never seen this man before, and can’t imagine what he could possibly want from her.     ‘   you smell blood.   ’    it’s deadpan, more of a statement of incredulity than an actual question warranting a response, and she chuckles quietly to herself.   ‘   look, buddy, i don’t know what the fuck you want, but you really shouldn’t piss me off.   ’

Kegan gave a simple shrug as he looked down at his fingers, stretching them out before turning them back to his palm. Then his attention went back to her. “ Not sure yet. Didn’t plan that far ahead.” Though with this confession he gave a quick, simple smile, though something about it left it less than genuine. 

         ‘   you should, you know ----plan things out? makes for fewer pesky surprises.   ’    nina hated surprises unless they came in the form of expensive shoes. it was a rare occasion in which she didn’t plan, and those occasions usually filled her with anxiety of a sort. she couldn’t get a read on this guy, however, and that smile made her wary.
