Byakuya narrowed his gaze at the petty pocket change that appeared in Soifon’s hand. With a curt nod of acknowledgement for the apology, Byakuya waved away the money with a stiff sweep of his hand.
“Perhaps I wasn’t clear. I do not need, nor want, to be financially reimbursed, Captain.”
⚜ ┊ ‘ Perhaps my walking away is not clear either. ’
Soifon could easily be just as stubborn about something like this.

“Is that so?”
Rose smirked, following in her shadow as she walked at a brisk pace. He hadn’t been serious, the remark had been a flippant retort to out of the blue criticism. However, if she’d taken it seriously and was now offering to train him, it was an offer well worth considering. He’d been out of action for a while now, it stood to reason that the skills he’d acquired during his first stint of captaincy might have rusted a bit; there was no harm in brushing up on a few skills if the chance came along.
“Name your price,” he replied “perhaps I’m willing to invest in your instruction”
Those that Soifon usually invested training in held a rank among her own squad. Offering this to Rose had been… [ ᴛʜᴇɪʀ ᴍɪɴᴅs ᴡᴇʀᴇ ᴏɴ ᴛʜᴇ sᴀᴍᴇ ᴛʀᴀᴄᴋ ] The man had been out on his own – no proper assignments to keep his skills at their very best. Obviously, because he had always been a decent man, Soifon agreed to this task. Referring to it as a test to her 𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝚜𝚔𝚒𝚕𝚕 and training abilities. She turned to face him.

Uryuu smiled a bit he had been hoping she’d accept but, had already acknowledged she might view his challenge as pointless. The quincy drew his spirit bow contemplating how many arrows to fire, her confidence told him more was better if he was to really test her.
“Firing.” he kept the reishi density low so she could easily break the ones she ‘caught’ without harming herself.
It was a challenge not an assault after all.
Before he even spoke, Soifon positioned herself [ ʀᴇᴀᴅʏ ᴀs sᴏᴏɴ ᴀs sʜᴇ sᴀᴡ ᴍᴏᴛɪᴏɴ ɪɴ ʜɪs ᴀʀᴍs ] Anticipating the direction of these arrows wasn’t hard – least not for her, but it was mainly a matter of how many he chose to fire off at one time. She’s seen first-hand what this man can do on the field, so she knew what to expect.
[ ᴛʜʀᴇᴇ ]
That was how many he had started off with. One to the right then to the left. The last one going a bit farther than the other’s but she still managed to keep up and get them all. [ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴡᴀsɴ’ᴛ ᴀʟʟ ʜᴇ ᴄᴏᴜʟᴅ ᴅᴏ ] That was the very 𝚋𝚎𝚐𝚒𝚗𝚗𝚒𝚗𝚐. Just a minor test of her speed before the real show began.

playkinshara:
The books hit the desk with a thud loud enough to make Rose flinch in an overacted play of mock surprise. He turned his head in her direction, concealing a smile as their eyes met and arms folded across her chest.
“Ah, but persistence is necessary, when it might lead to keeping such exquisite company as yours”
She was fun to tease. Rose even took a covert pleasure in it, unable to help admiring her reactions to the light teasing he’d put a stop if she asked - not that she had so far. He was like a child; a cocky schoolboy pulling pigtails to get the girl’s attention and had been since the one night out they’d had together.
She’d been good company that night, far better company in fact, than he’d expected her to be and on that basis, Rose had begun to make a point of seeking her out, slowly but surely cultivating a friendship. The idea of repeating the experience had crossed his mind, to the point of considering venues and activities. However, she’d never expressed a desire to see him again and Rose decided not to push thinking it much better to have her company because she wanted to be there, rather than because he’d forced her into it. He was, after all, a gentleman.
So for now, he played; seeking out her reactions, any chance to garner and hold her attention. It seemed today he’d had a little more success than usual.
“And you didn’t answer my question,” he retorted, eyes bright, voice a little sing song “Now tell me, how would Miss Soi-fon prefer me to compliment her?”
Throughout a majority of the year, Soifon was a woman completely dedicated to her work. With this, many other’s wouldn’t even bother to attempt idle conversation. There was [ ᴏɴ ᴀ ʀᴀʀᴇ ᴏᴄᴄᴀsɪᴏɴ ] a time in which even the emotionless 𝙲𝚊𝚙𝚝𝚊𝚒𝚗 𝚘𝚏 𝚂𝚚𝚞𝚊𝚍 𝚃𝚠𝚘 wanted to have a little fun. Appeared to her that Rose may have figured this out, and he kept his teasing at that perfect level. The work before her would still get done, but with an addition of a smile on her face. Somehow, he just knew how to make that happen every time. [ ɴᴏᴛ ᴛʜᴀᴛ sʜᴇ ᴍɪɴᴅᴇᴅ ᴀɴʏ ] Still, she’s a complicated woman – doesn’t mean she can’t let loose from time to time. [ ᴀɢᴀɪɴ﹐ ᴛʜɪs ɪs ʀᴀʀᴇ ʙᴜᴛ ғᴏʀ ʜɪᴍ﹐ sʜᴇ’ᴅ ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ᴀɴ ᴇxᴄᴇᴘᴛɪᴏɴ ]
Soifon eyed him, considering his words. The way he spoke in such a proper manner intrigued her. That being just one of the qualities she liked about him. Now, just because she didn’t seek him out didn’t mean she had disliked the date. In fact, the woman wouldn’t mind attending another, but we come to the same halt. Her work – that did come first. 𝙰 𝚋𝚞𝚜𝚢 𝚠𝚘𝚖𝚊𝚗, but if Soifon found that someone was actually willing to work with her dedication to the ѕocιeтy, then she’s open to dating.
⚜ ┊ ‘ I suppose that women enjoy compliments on their hair, smile or other meaningless features, but I’ve never been someone to care about my looks. ’
Turning her gaze, Soifon returned some files to a shelving unit – plus a book or two. [ ᴛɪᴅʏɪɴɢ ᴜᴘ ] But this comment alone was likely enough to lead Rose in the right direction, or she hoped. This was the truth though. She wasn’t the type to worry so much about how her hair looked or clothing. Nothing like that was important. What Soifon did cherish and hold dear were her 𝚜𝚔𝚒𝚕𝚕𝚜.
‘ My training yesterday morning. Tell me, how was my form? ’
playkinshara:
“An hour it is then”
The plan is agreed, and Rose nods watching her closely; the subtle flash of thought darting across cat like features before vanishing again. Curious, he opens his mouth, wanting to encourage her to speak, but then closes it again. Time is not on their side if this note is to be believed; if whatever was on her mind was vital to their mission, Rose has no doubt she would have spoken. For now, it’s best left. There will be time once they’re moving to ask her if he’s really that curious.
It turns out that an hour is no time; barely sufficient to make it back to the Third, brief Izuru on what little he can then gather the few items he’ll need for the trip. By the time Rose is ready he’s alreday running late and sets of at a brisk pace, reluctant to let his comrade down before they’ve even set off.
He’s opted to travel light, very aware that heading into mountains laden down with non essentials would only slow their pace. A change of clothes, his sword and a few other provisions will suffice; the bare necessities Rose thinks as he walks, balking a little at that. He is nothing if a lover of home comforts. Now, however, as he makes his way towards the gate, he’d grateful for how little he’d bought, it allows him to keep a quick pace, making up the time.
The gate comes into view and he’s only a minute or two late. he can see her standing there, waiting for him. He quickens his pace a fraction, offering a smile of acknowledgment as he enters her field of vision.
“I’m sorry for keeping you waiting. Are you ready?”
Soifon knew that out of any choice she could have made on who would accompany her, this was the best one. Based on their previous interactions, she knew this man to be of a [ sᴀɴᴇ ᴍɪɴᴅ ] and would take the assignment seriously unlike some others who may consider it to be more of a field trip than an actual mission of life and ɗєαтн. There were going to be heading through dangerous, below freezing terrain. This traveling companion had to be quick and able to get through this with her. Soifon could not afford to slow down, waste time and risk her own life in the process. [ sʜᴇ’s ɴᴏᴛ ᴀʙᴏᴜᴛ ᴛᴏ ғʀᴇᴇᴢᴇ ᴛᴏ ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴇʀᴇ ]
Seeing Rose coming towards her from a distance, she could see that he packed light, but yet, just enough. This was good for the pace they needed to keep. She herself also packed only what she needed. Nothing more and 𝚗𝚘𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚕𝚎𝚜𝚜. [ ᴇᴠᴇɴ ᴀ ᴅᴀʏ’s ᴡᴏʀᴛʜ ᴏғ ᴇxᴛʀᴀ ɢᴇᴀʀ ɪғ ᴛʜᴇʏ ᴊᴜsᴛ sᴏ ʜᴀᴘᴘᴇɴᴇᴅ ᴛᴏ ʙᴇᴄᴏᴍᴇ sʟɪɢʜᴛʟʏ ᴅᴇʟᴀʏᴇᴅ ] There was no predicting the weather out in that area, so this would be risky – but he appeared ready. She handed him over another pack which held the traveling housing unit they’d be using during the evening time if they needed rest. [ sʜᴇ ʜᴇʀsᴇʟғ ᴡᴀs ᴛᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ғᴏᴏᴅ ]
She nodded.

Byakuya stilled as the implications of Soifon’s words sunk in. He narrowed his gaze at her, suspicious in his own right now that those words had been spoken. He had learned that the machine that was the law wasn’t always forgiving, and that blindly supporting that machine could have unexpectedly dire consequences….but that was not a lesson he had assumed this woman had learned as well.
He searched her gaze, searching for any sign of deceit from a woman mired in the secrets of the punishment squad. For a heartbeat, his determination softened, the urge to let another soul - this soul- know of his true loyalties nearly driving the secrets from his lips. But he caught them, and locked those words away again….
Slowly, he shook his head.
“This….It is my burden to bear, and I swore an oath long ago to fulfill this duty should the need ever arise.” He paused, taking a steadying step back and leveling a solid, stern stare on the woman.
“Your offer is appreciated, although surprising… But I cannot accept it. I cannot accept an offer that would make traitors of anyone else.”
“Only by my success will others know where my true loyalties lie. And if I fail…then my betrayal will be inconsequential in the light of the consequences that will befall Soul Society.”
“But I refuse to fail….and for that, I will cut down any who oppose me.”
Soifon could hear multiple footsteps off in the distance – meaning that more soldiers would be closing into their location in mere moments. Hope lingered that Captain Kuchiki might actually confide in her [ ᴛʀᴜsᴛ ʜᴇʀ ] but that desire quickly faded to nothing as soon as the man spoke once more. Disappointment began to flood her mind. She kept herself together. There had to be some important reason that he’d do this. They’re getting closer.
Here she had come up with a partial plan – one she’d execute in 3..2.. and in that last second, Soifon flashed behind the man, making a move that was obviously too slow to really be considered an honest attack.
She’d make it appear real though. For those about to arrive, they’d see a battle. [ ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴ ᴠs. ᴄᴀᴘᴛᴀɪɴ ] While they’d want to interfere, they’d understand that Soifon isn’t one to allow enemies to escape. By this show, she 𝚠𝚘𝚞𝚕𝚍𝚗’𝚝 appear to be aiding Byakuya in an escape, but she’d hope that he’d know when the time is right – to make his escape by bringing her down.
This would be her way of showing her trust in him and whatever it might be that he’s fighting for.

Cell phone problems…that’s what she wanted?
Yukio resisted the urge to laugh out loud a second time just at that concept alone, a great Captain having to ask a, mostly, human to repair her device. Then again it wasn’t as if the fullbringer was stupid enough to take her strength lightly but, where it falter was always in strange and funny places at least to him. The blonde began fiddling with the device checking various obvious problems trying simpler things like like turning it on and off while he questioned her.
“You know you’re going to have to tell me what you did to this right? I can’t fix it if I don’t know how it got this way…” knowing there was a chance she would simply say it just started acting up he chanced asking anyways. After all if it existed that information would make this go faster which the hornet queen seemed interested in making happen.
Technology wasn’t her thing. While Soifon found it fascinating, she herself was no genius when it came to this kind of stuff. Her skills lied within turning things on and off. That was the extent.
