He kept telling himself that he’d just have to put up with it— that if he kept marching forward he’d get used to it. Truth was, he hadn’t been prepared for this kind of thing a tall… but staying with Mink was worth it. He’d refused to leave his side once— and would stick to it.
The lake was beautiful, spreading out as far as the eye could see. Despite the fact that it was very different, it still gave him the same feeling as the ocean. That was a very distant and nearly lost memory though.
"It’s b-beautiful." He chattered, golden-hazel eyes wide as he took it in. Fishing…well, he’d never done much of it back on Midorijima but he’d have to learn. "Alright. L-let’s do it." He said, that look of determination back on his face, regardless of whether or not Mink had actually meant to teach him today or not.
-⦅☪⦆- “We're not fishing today, we're checking traps. If we're lucky, there'll be a beaver or an otter or two. I use the fur to line boots and hats." He explained, stepping down a ledge and holding his hand out to Aoba to help him down. It was slippery here to and he didn't want Aoba to go sliding down the hill into the lake.
"If you're squeamish, don't watch when I kill whatever I catch." He added, wanting to spare Aoba the upset. Mink's way of life involved a lot of hunting and trapping, animals had to die so he could continue to live. Nothing went to waste though and every part of his kills were used for some purpose, even if some of the purposes seemed minor.
The grumpy response had Aoba in an even more sour mood, and he was about to make a scathing comment when Mink unbuttoned his coat— eh? What was he doing—? And then draped it over Aoba’s shoulders.
He scrambled to pull it in closer around himself so it wouldn’t fall to the ground. Honesty, he was all but swimming in the thing but the puffy jacket he always wore made it a bit cumbersome.
"O-oi don’t be dumb! Now you’re gonna get cold." He scuttled to keep up with Mink, his boots slipping a bit on the path. It was only enough to upset his balance, not to knock him down— but it did seem rather dangerous. That didn’t stop him from determinedly stomping after Mink.
-⦅☪⦆- “I won't. But you will if you don't keep that coat on." Mink answered, looking over his shoulder as he continued down the path. A large lake could be seen in the distance, still open despite the harsh cold wind blowing down from the mountains above. "See that lake down there? That's Lake Superior, it never freezes over so you can fish there in the winter. You don't want to fall in though, because the water's cold enough to kill if you stay in it for too long." Mink explained, pointing out to the large lake below, it almost looked like a sea...
Mink was slightly amused by Aoba's stubbornness, hopefully that'd come to be useful during the winter months, Aoba was going to need to pull his own weight if he wanted to stay.
"Might look f-for something with fur." Like yours.
It looked warm at least. The cold was starting to make him grumpy, and Aoba rubbed his hands in front of him, breathing on them to try to warm them up. Gloves wouldn’t be a bad investment, either. His slender fingers were starting to turn pink and the joints ached, but he was stubbornly following Mink around—as was his prerogative.
-⦅☪⦆- "If you're cold, go home." Mink uttered quietly, looking back towards the house up on the hill. Mink would probably make him a new coat and gloves, probably earmuffs and boots to. But he knew how stubborn Aoba was and figured he'd keep following him like a lost puppy all the way to the like if he didn't stop him.
Without a word, Mink pulled off his coat and threw it over Aoba's shoulders. His shirts would keep him warm enough without it, so he'd last for awhile. "It's slippery around here, the path's iced over because of the rain. Be careful and watch your step."

Aoba shivered so hard that his response was stuttered. “I-It’s p-pretty but. I’m n-not sure I l-like it m-much.”
Midorijima never got this cold. Even if it snowed it was just a dusting and it never stuck. He pulled his coat up tighter around himself, squinting a bit in the brightness of the sun reflecting off of the fresh powder.
-⦅☪⦆-
”Might get worse if it's this cold already. Buy a thicker jacket and out this thing away for the season." Mink gently smacked the hood of Aoba's sad excuse for a jacket before shoving his hands in his pockets. Mink wasn't too bothered by the cold, it got a lot worse back in his homeland.
"That sounds like a lot of work… What winter predators, if I may ask? And a caribou, huh?"
"Hunting is fun in my eyes."
-⦅☪⦆-
”Wolves mostly, wolverines and cougars on occassion. and very rarely, I get big brown bears that didn't start hibernation yet. Those are the biggest threat, had one break into my storage shack once, ate all the dried meat I was feeding the dogs that year."
❝sounds fun. maybe i’ll ship my sister to you sometime t’help.❞ since he’s a big baby with the cold. ❝wolves like snow, right?❞
-⦅☪⦆-
”Are you trying to cause me trouble? I don't babysit for free, you know. Why don't you come instead?"
"Winter chores? What kind of winter chores?"
-⦅☪⦆- ”Shoveling snow, keeping snow from piling up on the roof, making sure winter predators don't take too many of my animals, the annual caribou hunt. There's lots of other minor chores I have to do to, winter's a very busy season for me."
❝don’t y’like snow, mink?❞
-⦅☪⦆- ”I do, but it makes simple chores a lot harder and more time consuming than they should be. I haven't finished repairing the barn for my animals yet, so I'll have to rush to finish it before the cold winds from the arctic bring heavier snowfall with them."
-⦅☪⦆- ”Hm… It’s snowing earlier this year than it did last year…”
"Is that a bad thing though?"
-⦅☪⦆- ”Not entirely, I'll just have to start the winter chores early."
-⦅☪⦆- "Hm... It's snowing earlier this year than it did last year..."
innerseki:
' debts aren't that important. Nothing compares to the kindness I was shown by you - the gratification you gave is nice enough. '
-⦅☪⦆- ”I still feel there's something more I need to do for you, do you really feel what I've done already is enough?"
Do you remember me? Or has my face left your mind?
-⦅☪⦆- "Of course, I remember. I still have a debt to pay after you helped me and my men, that's not something I'll easily forget."
