Why I hate knitting things in pairs
Had a terrible experience with a pair of convertible mittens...they were fine, they were great! Nothing wrong! Just a slight color mismatch on the thumb where the color-changing yarn didn't match up quite right, no biggie. But me, the cocky little bugger I am, been knitting all of three months, I decide I'm going to fix it! Yeah! Long story short, five minutes later I'm weeping into a bundle of yarn with a giant hole in it where a mitten used to be.
Fast forward to today, two weeks later, where I'm trying to remake the mistake I made. I'm casting off for the fingerless part, haven't done the mitten cap or the thumb yet, when I decide to try it on. I definitely should have done that before now. Turns out I've knitted a mitten that was 2 inches longer and a good inch bigger around than the first one I made. What am I supposed to do? My boyfriend, the wonderful supportive man that he is, was sitting there with me when I discovered this, and practically had to body tackle me to prevent me from unraveling it and starting it over. He failed, of course, and now I'm left with a re-wound ball of yarn, again weeping into my ball of yarn.
I can't give up! These were a specifically requested Christmas gift. Aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I'm just going to take a break, work on the other remaining Christmas gift, and get back to it later. Yes.
