QCQ: Odd Color Names Offer a Primer in Marketing
"But she did pause at a color named Lightweight Beige, and soon
she was telling a story about when her parents met. Her father told
her mother that he liked her in beige, and so she swapped her
once-colorful wardrobe for one that was all beige.
Ms. Look said she would rename the color My Mother, After She
Met My Dad."
"Her father told her mother that he liked her in beige, and so she swapped her once-colorful wardrobe for one that was all beige."
I chose this quote because apart from the topic of the article itself, it impacted me to the point of reacting with judgmental dissapointment.
I believe in the feminist liberty for anyone to make their own choices and actions for themselves as long as it doesnt hurt themselve or other. But the idea that someone, in particular a woman, devoided themselves of color because a man told them they liked them in a particular color, rubs me the wrong way in a way I can't fully describe.
I get it though. It's exciting that the person you like has noticed you in a specific way, in this case a, a specific color. I can understand the excitement of participating in an action that leads to a desired outcome, especially romantically.
And dont get me wrong: I love an elegant beige outfit. But an ENTIRE WARDROBE OF BEIGE??????
It just made me sad, even though it was another persons free willed decision, going from a colorful wardrobe to mostly beige because of a guy.
Is this cute or saddening? Is it both? Can you understand it and disagree at the same time?
