Christmas

For this assignment, I got the idea from those hand ornaments you made with sand clay as a kid in elementary school. I wanted to replicate that with plaster. I also wanted to show growth through the plaster body parts with the size of them. Now as an adult my hands are no longer the same as they used to be. I decided to do more than just my hands and do my eyes, nose, mouth, and feet as well. Wanting to give the tree a more personified feeling. This piece is supposed to represent both nostalgia and growing older.

My Negatives

For this assignment, I went around to things that I see every day and made negative impressions of them. I did my car, my cat, a casing that carries needles and a tree that was located in my backyard. Even though it didn’t exactly fit the theme of nostalgia, I wanted to do something that was still in a way personal to me and shows a bit of a more intimate look into my life. The tree represents a part of me that loves nature and loves being outside. The cat paws are of my cat who I hold very close to my heart and love unconditionally. The car is my primary form of transportation. The needle case is the part of me that loves to sew things together and make something new.

Structure Within A Structure

For this assignment, I was inspired by the lantern paper chandeliers from elementary school classrooms. I remember seeing those colorful paper lanterns hanging on the ceilings in my classroom as a kid and anytime I had seen them in a non-school setting, I would instantly be brought back to those times. I was also inspired by wind chimes. I had a neighbor when I was younger who had them installed outside their home and would remember hearing it on windy days. I combined those two ideas to create something that could be used as both a chandelier or a windchime. I used candles for light because they gave off a more natural light and brought more of a cozy feeling. The mesh gave a more playful feeling with a stark contrast of the rebar which gave a rougher feeling.

Lucinda’s House Tour

For this assignment, I wanted to build a simple and basic dollhouse. Even though this had fit my theme of nostalgia, it was one of the few things in my life that I've never had growing up. I had always wanted one as a child, so this assignment fulfilled that dream for my kid self. The video is filmed in a child friendly youtube channel manner. Growing up I watched a lot of kid friendly videos made by adults who would make imaginative worlds and stories with toys and other various objects and I tried to recreate that with my video. The outside of the dollhouse is painted in bland and boring neutrals, while the inside is bright and colorful. The neutrals represent childhood for a lot of kids now because on social media you see a trend of parents giving their children neutral and boring colored toys to fit their “aesthetic”, but when me and many others were children everything had color, hence the colorful interior. It represents both nostalgia and a present vs past theme.

Family Game Night

For this assignment, I went with a theme of game night. Almost everyone has memories of game nights with their family and how much fun they could be, which also goes with my theme of nostalgia. I also aimed for a more comical route by filming it as satirical as children channels like Disney and Nickelodeon would make their shows. I put a lot of over dramatized moments and close ups. I also added sound effects to help give off that comical relief. I specifically picked the jumbo uno cards because I felt they were in a way “funnier” then the regular sized Uno cards, plus many people have played Uno with family and friends growing up. This project overall was a mix of nostalgia and comedy.

“A Room”

Nostalgia is the theme for my works this semester. This piece brings the viewers back to a time when they were kids and life was full of exploration and letting their imaginations run wild. I wanted to think about something that so many people have done in their youths to be able to connect with more people on a personal level and a fort was one of the things that had come to mind. When we were kids building first we would emerge ourselves in a world of comfort and seclusion surrounded by the things that we loved and brought us joy. These items are specifically things from my childhood that have brought me comfort. It both combines nostalgia and my personality/interests growing up.

We were able to go to Tamiami Park where would set up our cake livestream. We set up everything on the table and set up the camera right above the cake itself. We live streamed the cake while we were also interacting with the live audience. The audience consisted of friends and family. Our quote was in relation to AI and the questions that were asked came from AI overview in google to relate to the quote. The livestream lasted for a little over an hour. While there was an audience in the live, there was also an audience in the park. There was people walking/jogging but and a person sitting at the picnic tables as well and had interacted with some of our group members. We had a bumble where we were also able to have people communicate with us on. There were multiple social media accounts that we had, one in which unfortunately got banned. There were advertisements that were made and posted onto our social media platforms to get people to come and join our live. This project was really nice to work on and I had a fun time with my fellow group members.

Viral Interventions: Final Proposal

For our third proposal, we decided to go ahead with the cake idea and get a cake with the statement on it. We would go to a public park and livestream ourselves eating the cake. There would be both people in person and online who would be able to see it. For the next part of our idea, we would get a dating app and upload a profile for the cake. We would make a whole entire bio for it just like any other dating profile, but dedicate the bio to the statement itself. We would take multiple photos of the cake and upload the profile onto the dating up. We would also make advertisements and upload the advertisements to social media to get family and friends to be able to come and join our live and help participate.

For my quote I had picked, “Certain works have to be decoded”. I picked this quote because I agree that when looking at certain pieces, you have to try to understand what the artist was trying to say. You have to break them down more and more to fully be able to get a general idea. Not only that, there are many pieces that will have different meanings to everyone, so you have to break it down into something that makes sense to you and what a piece means to you. My question is, how many works have we decoded from late artists that we have gotten completely wrong? I’ve always thought this, not only in art but in literature too, how many times we as viewers or readers decoded something that the artist/author never intended to be analyzed or we analyzed them the wrong way. Like how in class when you are reading a story and the teacher would ask the students what they think the meaning behind the author’s choice of making a door read. For all we could know, they might have just picked a random color for a door and not have it mean anything.

Third Proposal: Have a cake with the quote on it. The cake will be a burn away cake, meaning that the top will be burning off and reveal the quote underneath. We would eat the cake in a public area.

Second Proposal: Going up to people and interviewing them about how they feel about the quote. Their feelings, questions, if they agree, disagree. Holding up a sign with the quote on it for people to be able to come up and see it and read it. Either walking around or have people come to us for questions and answers.

First Proposal: We get a giant banner and paint the quote onto it. Go to a public park with the banner because a park is where people come together and the quote is about striving to help one another and come together as one. We could walk around with the giant banner at different parts of the park. The banner can have rips and tears in it to represent that state of the economy we are in now. We could all wear black to represent the hurt and pain that many are experiencing.
