Cracklin' Oat Bran Thoughts

Cracklin' Oat Bran is too expensive anymore, but I still treat myself to it every once in a while. I think one nice thing at least is that it does not take much of that cereal to be full. In case you were not aware, you would do well to get into this old people ass cereal. It's hearty as hell.

I feel like Tilda Swinton is some illustrious veteran bullfighter of gender. Like she has wrangled and claimed and defeated so many genders in her long and somewhat morally questionable career. She is celebrated as a gender killer, but she respects each one she vanquishes. She is controversial, but celebrated nonetheless.

Current Social Media Landscape

Deactivated fb and highly highly considering getting rid of instagram. This was precipitated by the whole tik tok ban thing. I remembered I have this and historically I have never used it but perhaps now is the time? At least it's not Meta? We shall see. Getting rid of fb and insta already makes me feel like Saint Jerome eyeing some parchment by candlelight, so it would be nice to have some kind of social media. There are two main main issues I can see with getting rid of fb and insta. One is learning about restaurants and concerts and events and such (especially since tik tok is dying too). The other (arguably larger) issue is memes. Are the memes here sufficiently dank?

400 Panel Update

Henlo tumblo! I have returned. Last post was August 6th 2019, so ya know it’s be an amount of time. I have to admit I had to re-familiarize myself with what was going on via my old posts. Honestly, this should be a short one as not a ton happened, but maybe we’re on the verge of something happening? In the interest of full disclosure, I am still progressing mostly on ganbatts power and not like narrative hooks, but we’ll see how that goes (except rose and random fuckery those I’m into). My time away from homestuck has let me to internalize something I believe thistleham recommended which was not to get toooooo caught up in the details. I’ve been trying to enjoy the game bros and weird asides as opposed to trying to worry about whether this is real or not real or past or present or some sort of computer or non-computer thing and I have to say that it has seriously helped. I am hoping that going forward more of the inner workings of what the fuck is actually happening are revealed. Me backburnering the desire for that world building detail, has led to an uptick in like to enjoyment. Below are some quick impressions and highlights.

We got dave the jag, who is new and I feel like I get what he’s about.

We got John, competent, decisive, narratively compelling as always.

300 Panel Update

Where to even begin...Shit has hit the fan:

Some discussion has been had since I last read and I’ve gotten more info in terms of knowing which way is up. As a result, I’ve calmed down from where I was before which was relatively exasperated. I feel like you can make your universe as wacky as you want as long as you explain how it works and it’s consistent within itself. There’s such a thing as in medias res/just being buck wild but eventually you gotta give the reader some sorta something. Part of my earlier frustration was also that I wasn’t yet sooo invested as to be compelled to read forward. (Read: John is a magikarp of a person). I can say for certain that if it weren’t for friendship ganbatte power and I had just independently picked this up, I likely would have noped out of reading it before this point

LUCKILY

Rose came along and now there’s some semblance of things moving forward and I’m more invested in that I definitely DON’T want her to get hit by a meteor. There’re also things happening like Rose’s power being out, her attempting to make it to the generator, John losing the copy of the game he needs to help her, and him formulating the plan to use his friend’s brother’s copy. There is...dare I say...INTRIGUE.

200 Panel Update

Well, shit is hitting the fan. Getting some vague sense of where things are going, but this is an instance in which I feel like I’ll have to perhaps break my own rule and update in less than 100 panels because things really started getting out of hand in the high 100s. Sburb beta is installed, weird devices have entered the house and havoc has been wrought. I also don’t even know anymore. Like panel 1 everything was all weird computer-y like with the syllladex and all, but now he’s installed a game on his computer that is allowing someone to interact with his real world (game world? his world is a game even before the game was installed? game within a game?) which is already game-y and absurd from the outset? Soooo, Idk which end is up anymore really but I suppose I’ll find out.

3. I am an entity that advances via increasingly esoteric states of linguistics.

100 Panel Check In

I may post more than this but every 100 panels seems like a natural checkpoint.

While I mentioned this before, there is def more teen angst in here than I’ve ever had. It’s not egregiously like pop punk annoying (which might cause me to check out), it’s more just like ok that’s there then. To flesh this out more for Bee, it’s like I can’t say I’ve ever had the level of parental alienation or dissatisfaction that Mr. John seems to have. Then again, if I had ARTIFACTS OF CONFECTION foisted upon me then perhaps I might. 

Other assorted things:

1. The disguise was NOT clever. 

2. This type of humorous juxtaposition/the style of humor in general is q choice.

That sort of “we’re doing the weird meta world video game” thing which is light and whatever suddenly punctured by like, a real thing is top notch.

3. I think the bro themed things will become treasured favorites.

4. Things got all dark intense and story-y for a moment. Unexpected but enjoyed.

I’ll be interested to see whether it’s more like this or more meme going forward.

First Impressions

This is literally almost exclusively for Falafel and company but I vaguely mentioned it so here we are I suppose: 

1. I understand why the people I know that like this like this 

^ Not super eloquent but you read now definitely yes?

2. Way more interactive than I thought. I knew there were some animations and stuff but the amount of clicking thru and the little side tangents are very good and I do like to enjoy them.

4. As I already mentioned in the linez, there was some bit of it in the recent panels (somewhere in the high 30s/40s) where John man was being kinda social angst. I don’t super connect with this but have been assured that it is not a prevailing theme. I remain in a state of watchful vigilance.

Adventures in Homestuck

Courtesy of the DB entity, I have decided to attempt to chronicle my adventures in homestuck on the tumblos, which seems like the only proper forum for such an undertaking. I don’t know how to tumblos so we’ll see how this goes. All I know is when friend pillar is on the line, I steel myself and think today is a good day to do what has to be done by me.
