Kill Em With Kindness CH1
I teased this fic a little earlier, and here it is! I have had this general idea for a while now it was based on a post that I saw forever ago after Chameleon came out initially, but I could never figure out exactly how to work it, but then Ladybug happened and it solved the problem I was having with it, so now I can make it exist. >:) For those who wanted more out of Marinette and Adrien in MDCSP, this fic is for yall!
Marinetteâs stomach churned as she flipped through the photos on her phone for the dozenth time. None of it made sense to her. Adrien knew Lila was a liar, so how had she weaseled her way into a photoshoot for Gabriel? Just when she was starting to think things were going back to normal.
âMarinette! You have a visitor!â Sabine called up the stairs, and she darkened her screen with a sigh.
âComing,â she replied less than enthusiastically as she stood up, but to her surprise, two green eyes peeked up from her trap door.
âA-Adrien?â She gasped, fumbling a little as he climbed up. âWhat are you doing here? N-Not that you canât come here because you can come here whenever you want just I- whatâs up?â
âWell, after everything thatâs happened, I wanted to come see how you were doing, and I feel like I should explain myself. Can we talk?â He quirked a brow.
âOf course.â Marinette nodded, gesturing to the chaise which he sat on before leaning his elbows on his knees with a sigh.
âOkay, so I know youâve probably seen the photoshoot, and I want you to know that it doesnât mean Iâm on her side- Iâm not; quite the opposite, actually,â he said, flicking his gaze to her. âI feel like I should apologize to you. I used to think Lilaâs lies were harmless, but sheâs hurt the people I care about more than once, and thatâs not okay.â
He laced his fingers together and rested his chin on them with a pensive frown.
âIâm not proud of it, but I couldnât sit by and do nothing while she attacked you, so before our shoot I talked to her and forced her to fix everything so you could come back,â he explained. âI made her lie again, but it was to undo the damage she caused, so thatâs not so bad, right?â
âYou did that for me?â Marinetteâs eyebrows raised.
âOf course,â he said with a small smile. âYouâre my friend, and Lila crossed a line. I couldnât standby and do nothing while she ruined your life.â
Marinette felt her cheeks flush under his warm gaze, and she bit her lip, reaching into her pocket to retrieve her lucky charm.
âLooks like my Adrien good-luck charm works,â she said, and Adrien perked up upon seeing it.
âIâm glad,â he said before retrieving his own. âWeâll be fine so long as we have each other.â
He took her hand, pressing the charms together between their palms then lowering his gaze with a frown.
âI wish we could do something about Lila. I donât want her to hurt anyone else, but sheâs so good at spinning the truth. Thereâs really no way for us to prove any of it,â he said glumly, and Marinette pursed her lips in thought.
âWhat if we donât prove anything?â She asked, and when Adrien quirked a brow, she continued, âLila lies with every breath, and she just bends the truth more when you try to question her, so what if instead of challenging her, we back her into a corner by playing along?â
âHow so?â His eyes narrowed.
âIt will be a lot of work, but with the two of us we could probably pull it off.â She tapped her chin. âSo, Lila is always coming up with stories, illnesses, excuses, so what if we kept track of all of them and held her accountable? Like for her sprained wrist, we could give her a wrist brace that she has to wear, or since she was so worried about a napkin gouging out Maxâs eye, we could put safety glasses in the cafeteria. This way it seems like weâre being nice and supportive to everyone else, but in reality weâll be waiting for her lies to contradict each other- which they often do if you pay attention. Lila banks on other peopleâs obliviousness when she lies.â
âSo, you want to get back at her by being nice?â He tilted his head to one side.
âItâs called kill em with kindness.â Marinette smirked, and Adrien faced her with a grin.
âThatâs wonderfully devious of you, Marinette,â he complimented, âand I think itâs just what we need.â
âI donât take lightly to people lying to my friends,â she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest.
âI know. I shouldnât have insisted on ignoring her before. I feel like everything is my fault,â he said, lowering his gaze to his feet, and Marinette reached out to place a hand on his shoulder.
âIt isnât your fault that Lila is a liar, Adrien. You were just trying to be the bigger person, but unfortunately for us, Lila is a special kind of despicable,â she assured him. âBut so long as we have each other then she canât win.â
âYouâre right. Thanks, Marinette.â He pulled her in for a hug, and her cheeks grew hot. âSo, where should we start?â
âWell,â Marinette started, tapping her chin. âHereâs what Iâm thinking.â
