My first art installation

Hello tumblr,

This is a project I did with two of my friends as a final project for my Video art class.

The instructions said to base our project on a piece of media of our choice. I suggested my fav book and my friends loved the idea, so we went along with it.

The book was "The last black cat" by Eugene (or Eugenios) Trivizas. It's about this random, stray black cat that just lives his life. The rich people of the island wanted to increase sales in mouse traps and rat poison, but there was one problem. Cats. So they decided to get rid of them. But they knew everyone would call them crazy. So they focused on the black cats first. They made propaganda posters, told people that they were threats and organized riots and attacks against black cats. Our protagonist is now forced to organize all the other cats and their allies to fight back against opression.

We decided to focus more on the words of the protagonist, at the end of the book. I'll try to translate to the best of my abilities.

"I'm telling you all this, because right here on our island, just like everywhere else, cats forget, people forget and insanity doesn't need much to start again, from the very begining."

Due to my phones camera quality (sorry about that) you can't see everything clearly, so allow me to describe it to you. It's supposed to look like like a destroyed cinema theatre. Last year we learned that various authoratative goverments used cinema to push their propaganda. Same thing goes for the little old tv on the ground (we had to use more than 1 screens). Infront of the screens is projector, standing amongst fallen chairs, a speaker and a bunch of chords.

When it comes to the videos themselves, we mostly took videos from protests we found online, but also filmed our own stuff. We also thought that boiling water was a good analogy for violence "boiling", which is why you see someone making tea. My friend made the music by mixing 2 (or 3 songs) together. Something intresting we noticed between the two screens, is that sometimes, when the flower at the big screen decayed, the flower at the small screen would bloom (I haven't decided what that could mean.

We passed that subject with a 7/10.
