So after rewatching season 3 of Bridgerton, I can say without a doubt that Francesca Bridgerton literally picked the man that was just like her and wouldn't ask her for more. Similar interests and mannerisms. The kindest man possible. He was the best option for the life she pictured. The easiest choice. She doesn't have to show any other affection other than what is customary for a sophisticated married couple. She gets to stay in her perfect box with no pressure to leave it.

Then along comes Michaela Stirling. Someone who is the complete opposite of her. Loud and undoubtedly crass but full of so much compassion and vigor. Well traveled and educated. So stunning beyond words. A charm so seducing that Fran is legitimately surprised there isn't a trail of suitors, both men and women, following behind her wherever she goes. It's maddening how much the mere thought of her makes Francesca feel almost inconsolable. It's honestly so stupid. No person, let alone a woman should make her feel this... much.

The Bridgerton writers tried to tell y'all in so many words and scenes that Francesca Bridgerton isn't romantically or sexually attracted to men. She has never dreamed of meeting her future boyfriend or husband. Every time someone mentioned having a house full of kids, the color drained from her face. Dancing with men literally gave her anxiety. Even Eloise has shown interest in guys whereas Francesca hasn't.

John was the perfect match for her lavender marriage. He loved her as she was. Before he died, they had just started having more sex for the sole purpose of having kids even though they had been married for almost year already.

Francesca literally sees sex as a chore. A means to an end. She has no clue that it's supposed to be fun.

John wants her but will only do what she's comfortable with (that's why we adore him). Her having an orgasm only became important as a means of enhancing her chances at a baby. No more, no less. That's beyond sad. Their relationship had no passion but a whole lot of love and appreciation.

If they were portraying her as asexual then this would be a totally different conversation but we know for a fact that her and Michaela will be having spicy sex during their season. Lots of yearning and coveted looks. They brought in the intimacy coordinator from Hunting Wives and their scenes are crazy steamy. Like, I dunno y'all... but it's giving the impression that John was never able to turn her on and he was her best option.
