X Reader fics
Things I absolutely despise, is when the fic says x reader, but then it describes what you look like and what you’re wearing, like…what the actual fuck?
For crying out loud, it’s about the reader, not the writer! If they start describing the reader in ANY way, I’m out of it, because it’s no longer an x reader fic, it’s an OC monstrosity.
Clothes people, CLOTHES! I understand, under SOME circumstances, clothes must be described but instead of saying the colors and so on, instead they can say the shirt and pants, the top and skirt, shirt and shorts or short dress, formal dress, formal suit and so on-you had picked out yesterday, then the reader can still imagine their own version of that piece of clothing.
Or when they write in first person.
Spelling mistakes is understandable, we are all human and people do speak different languages, but if your sentence is so messy or so unreadable to the point where you have to guess and decipher what the writer wrote, then damn, just fix it, PLEASE!
Also when they describe or repeat the same sentence over and over again just so the fic can be longer….
But the worst of all, is when they make the reader stutter for no reason….if it was maybe for not being able to form words from shock or perhaps being caught off guard, like for example, you were caught off guard, momentarily unable to speak correctly “W-what? That is insane.” or in a joking manner, but if the reader is constantly like “O-oh I-I d-d-didn’t-“ Get Out!
x super hero Reader. Do not get me started on that damn plant power shit, I read fanfics all day, does it look like I would touch grass? I wanna be fucking Catwoman and jump around all day while riding a motorcycle with a thong. Stop making me an angel, I ain’t seeing the pearly gates!
Writing license REVOKED!
Normally I ignore posts like these, because the tone betrays that OP is reading fics in bad faith and with an unsettling sense of entitlement, not to mention the intricate misunderstanding how technically and artistically demanding writing an actual good x reader fic is.
But then you just had to end with "writing license revoked".
Who are you exactly? Because even if this is meant to be funny and relatable, you are needlessly rude and arrogant.
Fanfic writing is a hobby and passion. It is per rule something which you cannot do profesionally, because there is no career in it. This is a space of free time and spare energy. You may be annoyed, you may be displeased with a fic, but to somehow claim this personal has no right to write and post what they want on their free time with their spare free energy?
This is disgusting.
I could accept that some of the things you are annoyed with are valid points of feedback. If only you did not resort to a respectless tone.
To all my fellow (x reader) writers out there: do not let posts like these get to you. Lots of people think this sort behavior is distasteful, but choose not to interract with posts of this kind because it is so clearly written to gain likes and start discourse while in fact having zero respect for the actual writers in fandom. Normally I block people who post like this immediately. But this OP deserved to be reminded; no one has the right to hand out "writing licenses". Let alone you.
You’re right that my tone may have sounded harsh than it needed to be, and I get why it came across as disrespectful, that wasn’t my intention.
I was venting from a reader’s perspective, not trying to tell anyone they’re not allowed to write or post their fics. Fanfic is a hobby, and people should absolutely write what they enjoy but, like I said in my post above, authors use the x reader tags and in such a way that the person reading it, can no longer relate or envision themselves in the story.
The tags I used are where these tropes are very commonly found. My main frustration is really about tagging and expectations. When I click on x reader, I personally expect a more blank-slate reader, and it pulls me out when there are heavy descriptions. I know that isn’t everyone’s definition of x reader, which is why I think clearer tagging would help both readers and writers find what they’re looking for, but some authors do not do that and just immediately delete comments where the readers in the comment section, tries to reasonably explain why the tags must be added.
I can see how the “writing license revoked” line was unnecessary, and I get why that rubbed people the wrong way. I appreciate you pointing that out. You’re right, I do not have the authority to take any writing away from anyone, I’m not their boss, but I have seen in too many fics, where readers are trying to help, get immediately dismissed or told *if you don’t like it, then scroll*.
Yes those authors are right, and I don’t that very thing, if I do not like it, I find something else to read, but, it has come to such a point where every fic has this trope, so like myself, people try to go to the next fic, only for it to have the exact same problem and thats why more and more readers are getting frustrated and that’s why you might be seeing so many posts like this.
Have you perhaps wondered why there might be so many posts like this one? It’s because many are not being heard or can’t find anything anymore.
You say that it discourages new writers, and yes that is true or maybe it can also be preserved how the people reading fics, feel.
You quote [You may be annoyed, you may be displeased with a fic, but to somehow claim this personal has no right to write and post what they want on their free time with their spare free energy? This is disgusting.] I did not say they can not write what they want, anyone can write anything their hearts desire or come up with, even so, it’s frustrating when writers use the *X Reader* tag and it has the opposite effect.
Like I also said, I don’t have a problem with spelling errors, it’s a natural thing, everyone misspells sometimes, but sentence structure is very important, and when readers or even just random people try to help and say, hey this doesn’t make a lot of sense, the author immediately gets angry. Not all of them, some understand and is like, whoa sorry about that, and both people can learn from that experience.
You also said it in such a manner that it made it seem like I am only doing this for likes and giggles. Yes some may disagree and that’s alright, but I am openly telling authors what frustrates me and many others, as you can see in the comments, and you quote [but choose not to interract with posts of this kind because it is so clearly written to gain likes and start discourse while in fact having zero respect for the actual writers in fandom.] so you are saying that the readers voicing their feelings are not valid and just there for likes and discourse, which in that, I find very interesting.
[But this OP deserved to be reminded; no one has the right to hand out "writing licenses". Let alone you.] Yes I can’t take away licenses or give out licenses, the last part was mostly written in frustration when I read 50 fics in a row with the words, long hair, big chest in it. My post is there for writers to see and have a closer understanding of the people reading fics. Yes imagination and writing is good, this can be either seen as something to learn by or to ignore, yet you are insinuating that I have no respect for writers, did I say that all writers can not write? No I said writers that use the x reader tag in the wrong way, because the term reader, is the person reading the fic, if they ad by, hey reader will be described having long ears and ect. I said that it frustrates me, not that they are bad writers, I have not said in the entire post that they are bad writers or that they should not have creativity, but like I mentioned with the plant power one, it’s been used in almost every fic that it becomes upsetting, because they do not ad at the beginning that the reader will have that power or warn you about curtain things.
Like you said, [Normally I ignore posts like these, because the tone betrays that OP is reading fics in bad faith and with an unsettling sense of entitlement] you normally ignore posts like these, meaning you have seen many like these before and decided to speak on it because it frustrates you, or in your words [disgusts you]. Well like you, I have seen many posts that use the x reader tag like an oc tag and decided to speak on it. Are you saying that my opinion doesn’t matter because it disgusts you or because the points I made are similar to fics that you may have written? Either way, we are both expressing our frustration.
[Normally I ignore posts like these, because the tone betrays that OP is reading fics in bad faith and with an unsettling sense of entitlement, not to mention the intricate misunderstanding how technically and artistically demanding writing an actual good x reader fic is.] did I say that I am better than the authors? And saying [not to mention the intricate misunderstanding how technically and artistically demanding writing an actual good x reader fic is.] as if I do not appreciate good work when I see it and indicating I’m talking as if I’m out of your dept? You might also mean, I don’t seem to understand how difficult and skill-heavy it is to write a good x reader fic? I don’t think you need outer space skills, yes you might need some experience and knowledge but actually I think I very much do.
There are many different genres of x reader fics out there, usually there are ones indicating that it’s a female reader with the words x fem!reader, already they have given you a tag in itself or x marine!reader, once again something that explains what to expect. Some writers however, halfway through the fic suddenly writes *her long luscious blonde hair*, how do you think the person reading the fic will feel? Do you think they will be like *oh wow I have long blonde hair in this fic* or *I don’t have that kind of hair*? Because it’s most certainly the second one. I have written fics since I’ve been in middle school, cringe ones, wall of text ones, or even myself have used the tags x reader and then described the reader, and I have learned from those past experiences from people who have read my fics, I did sometimes get upset by their opinions but I quickly started reading more about other people’s opinions, to get a better understanding on what people on a wider range want when they read a fic, what they expect and what they do not want.
To say my post is just likes and grabs also shows me how you take my opinion as a hate post and that writes should ignore it, but in a sense I am helping writers who may be struggling to gain more attention to their works and can see what may help gain more readers and inspiration or maybe what to avoid if they want more people interested in their fics.
And my [respectless tone] is also many others frustration being said through my past. Yes it did sound rude but I never said that those writers should just simply give up, [writing license revoke] was written, like I said, in the heat of moment, but I never outright said *hey you suck give up* I gave clear points where many others get frustrated with and even tips that they could potentially use if they wanted, which is constructive because I did give actionable suggestions for improvement, but instead you only focused on the tone and how rude I am.
If you think my post was rude and disrespectful, that is how you perceived it and I will not sit here and say I wasn’t rude, I was, but so is your discarding of my own opinions and points. You say that my tags point is understandable, and I appreciate that, but like many who have read and written, to ignore the other points and brush aside my suggestions and say I am rude and that I only want likes, is not setting the tone either.
Was I rude? Yes. Did I say that I do not appreciate or respect writers of the fandom? No. Matter of fact I only voiced my perspective on the x reader tag and some other things that I personally do not like.
You can voice your opinion here, say that I mistook your words or perhaps made you angry. I’ve always been open to see others opinions.
