Minecraft 1.9 Pre-Release 3: Quick Tip

As some of you may know already, the 1.9 pre-release 3 came out the other day with lots of new stuff! Although I won't be going over everything, I saw this on Reddit and thought it to be very helpful.

This is everything you need to know about potion making:

To make a Water bottle just have an empty glass bottle and right click on a source of water. You can craft up to 3 of the same potion from a single ingredient.

To make a Brewing Stand, place a single blazerod over a horizontal line of 3 cobblestone.

Redstone Dust seems to increase the duration of the potion. Glowstone Dust seems to increase the potency of the potion. You cannot currently brew a potion that exhibits both properties. Potions also seem to exhibit some communicative properties. Brewing a Potion of Poison II with a Fermented Spider Eye will create a Potion of Harming II.

Virtually all potions are currently based on Awkward Potion. Unless I've missed a brewing ingredient, this is every potion currently available. There are currently no tier 3 potions. Potion of Harming and Potion of Slowness are currently the only potions that require an actual effect giving potion as a base.

To use a potion, you simply "eat" it by holding the right mouse button with the desired potion selected. Why you would drink a potion of Poison or Harm is beyond me, but wild speculation suggests that you may eventually be able to "throw" potions as a grenade like device or possibly coat your weapons with them.

Water

+Netherwart = Awkward Potion (No Effect)

+Redstone Dust = Mundane Potion (No Effect)

+Glowstone Dust = Thick Potion (No Effect)

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Weakness (1:30)

Awkward Potion

+Ghast Tear = Potion of Healing (Instant Health)

+Blaze Powder = Potion of Strength (3:00)

+Magma Cream = Potion of Fire Resistance (3:00)

+Spider Eye = Potion of Poison (0:45)

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Weakness (1:30)

+Sugar = Potion of Swiftness (3:00)

Mundane Potion

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Weakness (4:00)

Thick Potion

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Weakness (1:30)

POTENT POTIONS:

Potion of Fire Resistance

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Slowness (1:30)

+Redstone Dust = Potion of Fire Resistance (8:00)

Potion of Slowness

+Redstone Dust = Potion of Slowness (4:00)

Potion of Helaing

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Weakness (1:30)

+Glowstone Dust = Potion of Healing (Instant Health II)

Potion of Strength

+Redstone Dust = Potion of Strength (8:00)

+Glowstone Dust = Potion of Strength (Strength II 1:30)

+Redstone Dust = Potion of Swiftness (8:00)

+Fermented Spider Eye = Potion of Slowness (1:30) (8:00 -> 4:00) *Does not create a Potion of Slowness II

1.9 Update News: Baby Animals!

Earlier today, Notch tweeted a picture of these cuties:

It is said that these little guys will be the result of breeding. The animals will only stay as babies for a short amount of time before growing into their regular size, but while they are babies, they cannot be used to get their typical animal drops of any experience.

1.9 Update News: More Enchantment Info

As Notch hinted at yesterday, enchantment tables will be a new feature in the official release of Update 1.9. It was unsure about how you would go about enchanting things, until Notch just now posted a new picture...

As you can tell, it seems as though you have access to certain enchantments that are written in an unknown language (that's probably the random part). You put the item you want enchanted below the book, and then depending on the random enchantment you chose... wullah! You have an enchanted item!

This idea is still just a guess, but it seems to be the most likely. What do you think of enchantments? Do you think they ruin the game, or do they offer something new?

1.9 Update News: Potions and Enchantment

The second and last pre-release of the Minecraft 1.9 came out earlier this week, and it was jam-packed with even more new features. With the next public release being the official 1.9 update, Jens and Notch are still leaking various images and statements on new features and changes. This week's major additions to the game, that has a great deal of controversy, are potions and enchantments. Originally, Notch was apposed to the idea of potion-making, but now, for whatever reason, Notch is on board with the idea. The initial thought was to have a cauldron that you would place ingredients to, but it in-game it seemed to be a nuisance and in general not very convenient. As a solution, Jens came up with the idea of a brewing stand. It is unsure of how it is used, and what can be brewed, and the following picture is "still a work in progress:"

Along with potions, Notch is also working on enchantments. The idea is that a book would be used in some way to create an enchantment table, and then you use experience points to pick an enchantment at random. It was also stated that there are three tiers to this system, but again, the things we know can change, and there is still a lot that we don't know.

Either way, the excitement for the feature-filled 1.9 update keeps building!

Still Super Busy!

I'm juggling school, YouTube, Twitter, and my blog, and I have been neglecting most things besides school... hopefully I will have more free time to concentrate on the things I like in the near future.

Also, Capture the Record 4 is this Saturday and I can't wait! I will be recording, and several overview videos will be coming in the days after the event. ^_^
